  1. Hi All...

I hope everyone is doing well.

I was out of town during the last event in Merced and really wanted to go and see everyone. We are hoping to make it to the upcoming one.

We have been thinking of heading out to do a few caches, but never seem to find enough time. (Maybe we will even try and find Tag one of these days should time allow for it!)

Anyway, I hope the summer was great for everyone! Good to see Tom, Doug and Bill still needling each other! (It's fun reading!)

Also good to see Kim active out there.

Hope to run into you guys at a cache sometime...And soon!

    Cheers!

Have you done this cache in Waterford??? There are also some other newish ones in the area.

Don't know how to make this a nicer, cleaner link, sorry!

Yeah, that cache has been archived for a long time. Too bad too, as it was very cool. I met the owner of the cups and we chatted awhile...Super nice guy.

Definitely worth checking out if you haven't.

  3. JPD43 and I are going on a trip! A caching trip!

We leave tomorrow on a 4000-mile drive to EVERY STATE west of the Mississippi. We plan to find at least one cache in every state, take some pictures, listen to some books on CD, do some hiking, and maybe even take a shower now and then.

Although we will have laptops along, we may not be on the forums that much as not too many campgrounds have Wi-Fi! We may stop at a Starbucks now and then however.

Unfortunately, we won't have time to grab CVC Tag to take along. Besides, I asked BOGA if Tag could go and he said no. (And that's a bit odd since BOGA took him/her to Nevada recently.)

We will check in when we can and for sure when we get home. :)

Safe travels to you and Doug! Have a great time!

  4. Hi everyone! I haven't been in here or caching in awhile so I'm just checking in. I finally was able to carve time for caching and I reached #600 today...FINALLY!

How is everyone? I heard Geostock is held in Sac next year. My sister in Texas called me and told me as soon as it was announced. She and some Texans are coming. Not sure if I'll go or not.

    Sanruft have you moved?

I hope all is well with everyone!

    Kim aka Wolf Grrl

Hi Kim! Congrats on hitting 600!

We have not been caching in a very long time...Grabbed three on the way home from Manteca today and had a little fun. Still haven't moved but are hoping to do so as soon as possible. The house is up for sale and there has been a ton of activity on it. (We think we will have a solid offer on it next week). Our fingers our crossed!

Looks like we are moving a tad too soon with Geostock in Sacramento next year. Oh well, perhaps we will catch one of those at another location!

Looks like Tag has been up to the same ol' tricks...Rules (apparantly) are made to be broken!

We hope all is well with everyone. I haven't read the forums all the way through in a long time. It looks like I have some catching-up to do.

    Cheers...

  5. Hi ! I'm a journalist, researching a potential story idea for National Geographic. I'd like to write a story about geo-caching and need your help!

My idea is to write about a particular location (As yet undecided) and describe how geo-caching provides a great way to see a geagraphic area. What I need is a description of 3-4 cache locations in a particular area-- city---countryside and why they are so great--(ie. do they bring you to a beautiful view, show you a lesser known area of a place, take you to something unique that a tourist might not otherwise see etc)

Locals who hide caches are usually the ones with the "in" on this kind of informaion, making it a great way for the outsider to discover/ see a place for the first time.

I would greatly appreciate your input on this. Many Thanks. [/size]

One of our personal favorits is Wild America The location is just in a rural setting and not what I would call beautiful, but there are herds of exotic animals for the family to get up close and see. (And feed some by the fence on occassion). There are water buffalo, zebra's, camels, emu, ostrich and tons of other breeds.

    Good luck with your story!

  6. I think it's time to stop beating around the bush (partly because this thread is too quite).

As everyone knows, CVC is a large area with no defined boundaries but it's somehow gathered a North vs South line. It's time to show your colors and I've found the perfect test. After taking the test, add your cacher name followed by the test result and place it below to build the list. :P

    1. Green Achers is 45% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
    2. Photom - 32% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
    3. 2 for the road .........31% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
    4. Ted - 36% Dixie. Definitely a Yankee. Rosa - 41% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom
    5. CVC Tag ...100% Dixie. Is General Lee your grandfather?!
    6. jpd43.....28% Dixie. You are a dandy Yankee Doodle. (all ya'all need to retake as there must'a been some kinda mistook)
    7. Greg (nascar fam) 40% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
    8. Sanruft -44% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.

Funny that I had such a Yankee score actually, since Robert Lee ....... was my grandfather!

Sorry for the delayed reply...Just read the thread :o

  7. Koon puet my pra! Pben alai koon Bill? Chai yen yen. Chip ping! (now let's see you babble fish that!):)

A full confession! I like it, Doug. :)

Nice try Bill, but it really says "You speak badly (as in not nice)! What's the matter with you, Bill? Keep a cool heart. Dang it!"

This whole thing smells very bad, no matter what language you speak in! :P

  8. As usual, I'm totally innocent! I think if we examine the facts we will find that TOM is usually in the center of all the TAG action.

    Need I say more??

    Ok. Let's examine.

TAG went to Germany. Tom didn't go to Germany

TAG went to Austria. Tom didn't go to Austria.

TAG went to France. Tom didn't go to France.

Hmmm. Theory disproved. Now, who DID go to those places? Huh? :)

I didn't see China on that list... B)

  9. I just received my "United for Diabetes" travel bug...What a great cause! This one needs to move along outside of the US...Tom, Doug, Laura, Pete, Bev (or anyone else that likes to break the rules with Tag)...How about taking this instead of Tag?? :(:D

Poor ol' Tag...Stuck down there in Fresno with no hope of survival... :(

  10. I would like to propose an extreme & dangerous (in many cases) GC project: The US border with Mexico has 278+, 6 ft. tall marble and iron obelisk monuments from the Rio Grande River at El Paso, TX to the Pacific shore in California (~700 mi); these need to be documented!

I've linked an excellent article here that tells the whole interesting story about the border line establishment. It's second only to the Lewis & Clark expedition in fasinating history.

As you'll read, many of these obelisks may be missing, moved, or damaged. Another possibility is that as the border fence/wall goes up (if ever) many or all may disappear from view. Naturally, many will be fairly easy but others in the AZ/NM border area in extreme geographic/climate locations. Many will be a challenge, even in urban areas.

I'd like to suggest that each and every one be documented with photographs (w/background context), and coordinates. We could finalize the project with a Web site that presents that information and honors the Border Patrol and the tremendous effort required to protect our borders.

What say YE?! I present here Monument # 102 looking from Mexico (a NO NO) back into the US at the Coronado National Memorial in SE Arizona.

Sounds like fun and an adventure! We will be moving to the Sierra Vista area early next year, so that will be a great way for me to explore the area.

  11. Hello Central Valley Cachers,

Those of us up in the foothills (Sonora area) are finally beginning to get organized. There has been some increased local caching activity in recent weeks. Any ideas?

I do have an idea for you though. CVC Tag loves to travel (he has been to Europe and China even though he's supposed to remain in San Joaquin or Stanislaus County.)

So if you foothill cachers want to get some attention, maybe a CVC Tag raid would be in order, kinda like a panty raid party back in college. <_<

LOL! Uh, yeah...Tom would LOVE to see someone else tar and feathered and in the hot seat!! B)

  12. I'm scarred. I think I'm in this thread all alone! :(

Nice ride, Bill! Had a great conversation with Krypton about you.........and went through his coin collection and one popped out....a guy on a tractor. Hey! Wheres my coin! Harvest is over! I got my coins on Friday...and Ill tell you what, somebody needs to be slapped! The mail lady LEFT the 3 boxes on top of my mailbox ( Industrial strength......dad got tired of watermelon smashing....) All I could thing was dern....theres near $4 grand sitting there on a lone country road with the house set back in the orchard away from view....what if someone stole the coins? Im not sure WHO im mad at. But theres just somthing WRONG with that.

    Sandra

One last thing... What the HECK happened to CVC Tag?!! You have to read Mean Mike's hide log (or what it Nasty Nancy's?). The voices say this isn't currently a 'Night Cache'!! :(

Is TAG still in the valley?? I thought Tom and Doug took him on another worldly adventure! :(

  13. Greetings from Texas! It's been awhile since I posted here. I'm here in Texas until Sunday. Doing a lot of caching! I hate TEXAS! So for, I've been covered head to toe in mosquitoes (even with OFF on) every day here, bit by fire ants today, and saw a coral snake (could've been a milk snake) yesterday. Now mind you I have hiked hundreds and hundreds of miles in CA and never once saw a snake. Come here in pretty much the city and see one at a virtual! UGH! I am deathly afraid of them. I ran so fast I was a blur.

    Take care,

    Kim

It could have been worse...They have some nice rattlesnakes back there!! :o Just trying to cheer you up!

And remember..."Don't mess with Texas!!"

I hope you have a safe trip back...

  14. New subject - ADVANCE NOTICE!

    Remember S'Mores and Snores?

Mark your calendars now for S'Mores and Snores II

Camping Friday May 4th and Saturday May 5th. Main event will be on Saturday May 5th.

Location: San Luis Reservoir Recreaton area (a few miles west of Los Banos.)

We have a large group area reserved so do not make camping reservations. We should have plenty of room for all who want to camp and will pro rate the fees among all who camp.

The event will be officially published in a few months of course.

Sounds like fun but looks like we will miss it again this year. :D

  15. Every travel bug I own that I released in Europe or the UK are still going strong...All but one in the US has disappeared. I try t never release one in the US anymore. In fact, I released Camel680's California coin in Europe recently. I will be curious to see if the coin stays moving just as the travel bugs do there. :D
