  1. If you know the cache owners name, then go in and search their hides. It will be in there as showing archived. Otherwise you will need the GC # and or contact your local reviewer with COORDS.
  2. People are stupid and its getting worse by the day. Welcome to the world.!
  3. Check with the university first. My father worked for the local university and they were told to remove any geocaches that they found in their daily activities. This is how he found out about the activity in the first place. The university didn't have a direct policy, but it was made know to its employees.
  4. YUP, contact the owner. I solved a puzzle the other day this way. I had many of the things I needed, but was just one step out. After the return email, I had what I needed. Another puzzle was missing one thing, I just got what I needed on it too! Its not help so to speak, but more a NUDGE...
  5. I just solved a ultra hard puzzle last week and found it this weekend. The puzzle took me 2 weeks to figure it out and it was tough. Its not been found much and I figured that most people just don't care. Another cache by same cacher is proving much tougher on the wife and I believe she has already given up on it. Some just don't like it. I know what may be simple for you to figure out, might not be for others. Simple puzzle caches are good too, but then again, its up to you, the cache owner.
  6. It shows in the inventory doesn't it? I see it doesn't show the bear TB in there, Go back and log a "note" and say also dropped the bear TB. You will do the same for its drop as the other.
  7. If the location in question has any Puzzle cache icons close to it, I take my COORDS and email my reviewer and see if I am in the clear. I make sure the location doesn't need permission, and if it does, get that first!!!! I can't say that enough. Once I have the OK that the location is OK to use, I search out the hiding spot, place the cache and walk away. The more caches you place the better you get and the quicker you go about it. I placed a cache Saturday afternoon, it was approved Saturday night, found Sunday morning.
  8. Hey Kit, I'm going to call you the "Lord of MOC Threads!" Just keep those threads in a notepad file and re-apply as needed..LOL I've got a few PM caches out there, as well as just plain jane caches.
  9. It is what it is. Found a cache with nice goodies, then today found one with a golfball and Beads... We generally don't swap swag, so it doesn't bother us much. I've yet to find a cache with anything good in it. Seriously.
  10. I, for one, am glad the cache owner is deleting the bogus Find. That's what I'd do on my cache. But if they hadn't, and let it stay, I wouldn't care, and it wouldn't make a difference to my game. Exactly my point. Its a game to have fun. I could care less how many finds you or anyone else has. We do this as a family and have fun with hit. Numbers mean little. But there are some that live by the numbers and that is fine, its a hobby, have fun!
  11. I'm going to say this just for the sake of saying it. WHO CARES IF SOMEONE IF "FAKE LOGGING". Ok, said it. now, carry on.. couldn't resist.
  12. Great! Have fun, be safe, take your time, and sign your name in the log book! Other then that, its simple enough.
  13. There again we fall into that "Arbitrary" term and its all wide open to each reviewer. It should be set that you have set amount of time to hold a cache. Say a 2 week period. I'm sure there are cases in which the reviewer could also allow an extension. And why shouldn't it be? Each situation is reviewed separately (case by case basis). There is no one rule that would cover every possibility. It's first-come, first-served. If you're second, your cache is either denied or placed on hold until the first cacher is done. If you want your cache published sooner, you can find another spot. If you really want the spot that someone beat you to, you can ask them to move instead, but they were there first. How long can someone hold a spot? That's the subject of the other thread; the cache by the starter of this thread wasn't even placed a week ago. I believe your missing the point here. In the same line of thought of "beating you to it", by submitting the cache to the reviewer to be published, the cache owner beat the other person to it. Its nothing more then "he said he said. The same stuff. Don't dance around the "Arbitrary issue" because it does have merit. You can say just because his cache was placed a week ago. There are other examples of a site being held for longer then months, as this was just mentioned a while back. The point is, your blocking a legit cache from being published by holding it for a legit cache that isn't ready. Who was there first? How do you know someone didn't get grab the coords from Google earth and put them in the uncheck cache page? Long story, but any way you go, its the same distance...!
  14. There again we fall into that "Arbitrary" term and its all wide open to each reviewer. It should be set that you have set amount of time to hold a cache. Say a 2 week period. I'm sure there are cases in which the reviewer could also allow an extension. I've heard a few other people complain about this, and one forum someone stated they waited 6 months before the reviewer finally gave the spot up. I just don't get why it would take that long PERIOD. There are 2 sides to the story. We all know the frustration of placing a cache only to get the boot on that spot. We have all had our share. But to say that there isn't any alternative to the situation, that just isn't right either.
  15. Yes they get stolen as much if not more then Bugs do. I've noticed of late many more caches in my area are becoming void of recently dropped coins with no resolution (placed) moving on. 2 weeks ago I landed on a Micro Evil coin and we grabbed it and moved it on to a MOC, so hopefully it will last, but its also a EVIL hide and no one has found it since I placed it.
  16. Funny thing, take our TomTom out and its generally spot on. I watched several guys using their Etrex's and searching, all showing a different GZ, then I walked up and laid down the TomTom and was within 2' of said cache. No GPS is perfect, and it seems to be that you get what you paid for when it comes to the receiver. As long as it gets me to withing 10-20 feet, then I won't complain.
  17. Seems since the update many people are having issues. This week has been a good week for notify, although I got a placement log today when it was placed and found 3 times before I got the notify on that. LOL.... I'm not a FTF hound though, so it don't matter.. I'm sure they will get it fixed.
  18. I like the idea! Sometimes it is tough to remember what you have DNF'ed and what you just haven't looked for... It would be nice.
  19. That is a good list to use. Its all about the type of cache you go after. I'm in Central Indiana, so I don't go "deep wood hiking" and don't need much of what is posted in the picture. But if you live in an area where many caches are in the woods, then I suggest it.
  20. My feeling is the hobby is changing. I know in my area, there aren't hundreds of locations to put Ammo Cans. Parks and Cemeteries are getting saturated and the urban areas are to muggle heavy. My largest caches currently out are smaller sized locknlock's. You can put small swag, TB's and coins but that is it. Besides we have a Ammo Can thief around these parts and some CO's are tired of replacing them. Also, in these parts it seems like the new trend is to find "harder" finds. Thus Micros seem to be the trend of the day. There isn't anything wrong with that either.
  21. Lisa, glad to see you are getting it all worked out. Thanks for taking the effort to keep the cache alive!
  22. Coasters reply is exactly why we just do this as a family thing now. ......I have no interest in events. Why? I just have no desire. ......I could care less about the numbers. Why? Gas prices and this is just a hobby we do whenever. ......I don't like rude people. Why? I can't say that on a forum. To many of the things posted by Coaster are true in life beyond Caching. In my other hobby I host large events and to say the pain and effort that goes into them besides the cost to your family and Money wise just makes it tougher to stomach the longer you do it. Its a thankless task and just another reason why I see Bash events a little different.
  23. Its your cache, you decide. If you put a lot of work into the cache and the puzzle and don't want to give it up, then don't! If you want it to be solved and found, then I would put a few gimmies in there and just see how it goes. Remember, if you have to, you can give more hints in emails. Its up to you. Some local puzzle cachers will tell you what you need to solve the puzzle (ie websites, books, newspapers, whatever) to find it. They won't give it all away, but merely the method to help you solve it. But then again, you don't have to tell anything.

    Lawlz!

The point of the clues is that you DO NOT read them before you go. If you have trouble finding the cache you then take out your pen and decrypt them there. The clues are for extra help - not for hints before you leave. LMAO, what? Play as you want.... I decrypt and then have them with us if we can't find the cache. There are NO SET RULES on how you use any of the info on a cache.
  25. I agree, email your reviewer with the COORDS. My best advice is, locate your local reviewer and save their email. When you want to place a cache, send them the COORDS and get the OK first then place it. Most reviewers have their own distance they stand on but use the 528' as the RULE. Best to send the reviewer a nice note and you will get much farther. If the cache is say 300' away, I seriously doubt you will get any reviewer to publish it. ---- As to containers. I use a few different types. Ammo Cans LockNLock's (dollar store cheap) Matchsafes (cheap at Walmart '89cents') Decon Containers Bison Tubes Nano (buttons) I wouldn't use glass because it allows light in.
