  1. Anyone know if anyone is going to launch these in VA or any of the surrounding states?
  2. Ahhhh thanks for the link, I already have streets (came w/ the GPSr) I'm planning on getting TOPO but I just wanted to talk myself into lol
  3. ok now i'm confused. Do the topo maps have the detailed streets on them or do they just have major roads?
  4. Yeah that's what I figured. I do a lot of 4x4ing and I was hoping to find a way to combine the unheard of back-roads w/ the topo information.
  5. How detailed are the Mapsend Topo maps? Do they show as many streets as the mapsend streets program?
  6. Hey I'll go along if somebody else is paying for the trip. And as long as we get outfitted with lots of "toys" :-D
  7. Yes this region is definitley unfriendly to Americans, unless you have an M16 and some kevlar I wouldn't recommend this cache.
  8. If you need to reference the article its in the December 2004 National Geographic, "Tracking the ghost of bin Laden in the land of the Pashtun," pg 8 the author was Tim McGirk.
  9. Once again good has triumphed! No really, no hard feelings here. Like Jeremy said it was more of a comment than a topic starter anyways. Now everybody's reading the thread now I'll bet lol.
  10. No hard feelings here. The flame war it erupted was pretty stupid IMHO. I just saw an article I thought would be interesting to fellow cachers. Plus, a 2.5 million dollar FTF prize ain't too shabby.
  11. Wow Didn't mean to start all this junk. I'm a noob to these forums and I have no political agenda here believe me. I'm the originator of the now notorious Osama thread. The original post had nothing political in it and was simply paraphrasing an article I found in the National Geographic, a pretty good print magazine if you guys ever get up from your pcs. I did think the modding was a little like the thought police in "1984" but I also know you need mods to keep things from spiralling out of control (like this thread :-D) Basically I'm trying defend my post and my name but I want nothing to do with a flame war (I think they're ubergay) Ooops sorry was that political?
  12. LOL yeah 2.5 million bucks. There's a quote in the artice by some tribal leader in that article, "Whoever betrays [Osama] why, his life wouldn't be worth an onion." What the significance of an onion is in their culture I have no idea.
  13. Reading this month's National Geographic I found an article about a Pakistani journalist following Osama bin Laden's trail through the Tora Bora area. Several times he mentions using his GPSr in his travels. He also gives the coords of a house Osama slept in during the battle in December 2001. N 34.07.080 E 70.13.209 Sure would be an interesting cache if anyone is in the neighborhood.
  14. No I have the right version I just can't type, anyways, robertlipe's tip worked, thanks for the info time to hit the road!
  15. OK I have a Magellan Map 330, I've loaded the smaller basemap but now when I try to upload a region from Mapsend Streets that is over 7.5 megs it says the file is too large for the GPS. I figure I should have at least 13 megs free. I tried loading two regions one 7 megs, one 6 megs but the second upload deleted the first one. Any tricks or ideas? I have the NAB1.10 basemap, firmware 4.0 and mapsend streets 1.1 Thanks
  16. Gotcha, that makes sense I guess it cuts down on the detail map size as well.
  17. Does anybody know of any working links for the North American Basemap v1.10 for the Magellan Map 330? I think the file name is NA_1_10.IMG (not positive though) Thanks
  18. As I sit here watiting for the new basemap to download, Another idea hit me, is it possible to load a "blank basemap" that takes up little to know memory? Obviously the custom-made basemap is smaller which is a big improvement. But if I could set up a blank basemap and upload detailed sections from the cd would that work?
  19. Aw come on guys its only plastic lol I'm starting to realize how polar I am. I really know nothing about programming but I have no qualms about tearing apart and resoldering expensive electronics. lol Thanks for the link to the group I'm gonna head over and check it out. Sounds like a cheaper (and safer) alternative.
  20. yeah that's my thing I'm looking at the memory unit probably with some research I can get a larger capacity chip that will fit in, but its usless without a firmware patch. I'm lost on software, I'm a hardware kinda tinkerer.
  21. Has anybody successfully upgraded the memory on a Magellan 330M? The 7mb available for downloads have me feeling a little cramped. I know there's not a kit or anything but if the proper firmware patch was made it should be pretty simple to swap out the flash card for a larger one. Any ideas?
