  1. thanks got it now. ps. the calgary cachers link in your sig doesn't work
  2. Hi dusty5150, Try the Calgary Cachers - http://forums.calgarycachers.net/ . Well, I tried registereing for their site and the super secret security code picture that you're supposed to enter doesn;t show up in my browser so I couldn't register. The page says if you can;t see the picture to contact the site administrators, but I couldn't access anything on their site without being logged in. Hopefully someone that frequesnts that forum will see this thread.
  3. I no longer have a local geocacher to maintain this cache for me and was hoping someone would adopt it rather me having to disable it. If you would like to adopt this cache from me, please let me know. Thanks http://coord.info/GC1ER9R
  4. I got it ... I wasn't "switching to mass storage mode". Thanks for the nudge in the right direction.
  5. I picked the 2xx profile and it seems to work fine. The macro seems mostly concerned with name length and text length for different models, but I admit I haven't studied it in detail. On the Montana itself, I initially set proximity to "Prompt" but found it too irritating. Need to do some experimenting. I'm setting up my GSAK/Nuvi macro stuff again after being gps-less for over a year and I need some help ... my POI Loader doesn't find my new 295W. Did I miss something? Thanks!
  6. I have the 255W and I am looking at replacing it, I've had enough of it, it has too many problems to be enjoyable and it is not the best model for geocaching. As for your question, the only way you are going to get the distance remaining is by clicking on the speed icon or by clicking on top of the map on the green bar. man I wish I had done some research before buying the 255W assuming that it would be a simple replacement for my old trusty 250W; I miss it now it was perfect for geocaching. So, what's out there now that compares to my old 250W?
  7. I don't have a 255W, and Garmin seems to put model specific idiosyncrasies into every models. Did you try tapping on the "arrival time" box and see what happens? Yeah it doesn;t do anything. The only thing close I found was you can tap the top bar where it shows the POI name etc, and it comes with a little map screeen that shows the entire 'route' and some other info, including the distance remaining ... the only problem is that the directionality doesn't change. I guess taht screen is fine ... maybe I was just spoiled with my old Nuvi
  8. I'm just getting back into geocaching as my old Nuvi 250W died about a year ago and I just purchased a new 255W and the on screen information seems to be a bit different now. Specifically, when navigating to a waypoint, my old Nuvi 250W indicated the 'distance remaining' and the new 255W indicates an 'arrival time'. Obviously 'distance remaining' is more helpful than 'arrival time' when it comes to geocaching, and I wondering if I can change this somehow? I've searched through all of the settings and can't find anything. I have the Nuvi in "Off Road" and "Pedestrian" modes. Any help would be appreciated!
  9. i've been using a nuvi 250w for 3 years with no issues (full paperless), but I am now looking to get a handheld to compliment it. I'd like to hear your feedback on the Venture HC. Thanks!
  10. yeah it'd be nice if we could get a good group together! looking forward to doing Lingham
  11. I lived closer and my truck was a 4X4, I would be up for it Sorry, cheap bump We're definitely interested in "non-club" trail runs for geocaching ... especially if we can turn it into a whole weekend/camping
  12. brendah ... there is also camping available at Bronte Creek Provincial Park (www.ontarioparks.ca) ... 10-15 minutes from Dundas & Bruce Trail
  13. haha COOL! that's my dad's cache on his backyard fence ... i helped with the hints sorry about that
  14. by inexpensive i was referring to the low base Etrex .. ive seen them for around $149 CDN ... but i'm willing to spend more if I need to for quality/reception etc.
  15. hi all, I need some advice on handhelds. I currently use a Nuvi250W for geocaching, 100% paperless, but I'd like to have a handheld to use for zeroing in on GZ's; the Nuvi is great for getting you within 10-20m and having the full cache listing on the screen is great, but I owuld liek to have a handheld just to have quick view of coords/direction etc ... it's kind of a pain going back and forth between teh cache and satellite screens on the Nuvi. just wondering if an inexpensive Etrex, or the like, would do me fine. the Nuvi would still be the main tool for me, just need a second 'helper' gps thanks in advance for the advice!
