  1. Are there any known issues with the Garmin etrex 30x? I ask because I just bought one at Costco for $130. I came home and looked it up on the Garmin site. It's been discontinued, anyone know why? On the Garmin site it's listed at $299, On Amazon I saw them for $199. Then Costco(in store) $130. I had been using an old Magellan Triton 400. The unit itself works fine but without software updates, it no longer works like it used to. For example, connecting to the geocaching site to download cache files. I've been having to have the pocket quirries emailed to me, then putting the into the software. It would only get worse from there. So it was time for something new and I had been looking for a few months but budget is tight. So I went to Costco today for other stuff today and saw these, so I grabbed one(well the cardboard thing, lol). The eTrex 30x seems better than what I had, though I'm just setting it up and playing with it. I do know that Costco has a good return policy, sonot to worried. Any tips, trick or other advice, suggestions?
  2. Thank you.The cache has been published and found and the travel bugis on it's way to a new location.
  3. Thank you, That means it must be published first.
  4. It's not going to magically show up in the cache's inventory. There has to be a way for me to drop the bug in the cache. So it moves from my inventory to the cache's inventory. I don't see a way to do that. So maybe the cache needs to be published first?
  5. First I created a cache page as a location holder. Submitted it so a reviewer could check the location. It's fine. He disabled the cache. I purchased and activated a travel bug which is now in my inventory. I put the travel bug in the cache and hid the cache this morning I still need to work on the cache page before enabling it. So how do I make the new travel bug show up in the cache's inventory?
  6. Yes, I'll have to adjust to coordinates 10 or 20 feet or so to find tune them. I did find a good spot today. I ordered a container and travel bug. So I need to wait for them. Paint the cache. Then go place it.
  7. Yes, the review will disabled the cache the cache for me. That's what the email said anyway. So nothing else to do but scout the area, make the cache and place it, then enable it.
  8. A reviewer has reviewed and disabled it. So I guess I'm ready to go. Thank you again!
  9. Thank you both! I couldn't find a link to a local reviewer, so I made the page. Called it Coordinate Check Only, added a note and submitted it. There are a couple traditional caches nearby but I checked that map and it seems to be fine. No multi or other caches nearby.
  10. I was hiking with a muggle friend last week and I past a spot that is just crying out for a cache. I would like to reserve the location while I go and scout the area alone in more detail, then make a cache for that location and write the description. I have coordinates from google maps which I can fine tune later. I did it a search here on the forum and one answer said to create a draft(disabled cache). I'm creating the page now and don't see any option for creating a disabled cache. How do I create a draft cache?
  11. It's going to be a totally different kind of container and a different type of hide. So besides distance, that's also why I'm asking.
  12. I want to move a chache about 200 or so feet. Current cache keeps disappearing. New cache will be a different container and different hide. Do I just archive the current cache and place the new cache or is there something special I need to do or should know?
  13. I looked at the Garmin site but couldn't find the answer. H = High Sensitive Receiver? C = Color Screen? x = ???
  14. Are you using an email program like Outlook?
  15. Since you're a premium member the best thing to do with LOc files is forget about them! They only give minimal cache info, the name and co ordinance. They don't give the descriptions and other info. To download 500 caches at a time in a gpx file, use Pocket Queries.

  19. Just remember, the most obvious is the least obvious. So if you keep looking around like you're suspicious you'll stand out, but if you just go do what you have to do most people won't even take a second look.
  20. It's not exact! GPSr's are not exact. They give about a 10-20 foot accuracy. So the person who hides a cache will have coordince about 10-20 accurate. Then the person looking for the cache will have about 10-20 accuracy. So you're looking in about a 40 ft area on a good day. You'll develop a geo sense that will help.
  21. You might need the VantagePoint software, free from the Magellan web site. Then drag and drop it into there. Then transfer from PC to GPS
