I am currently doing a cache a day in august, even thought im already up to 22 days consecutive, not sure I can hold out the rest of the month given the current find saturation and my eagerness to get everything in the area. Im off work for a week, and was wondering whether there were any "Wow" traditionals that were in Devon I could plan to go and get as a one off, or with the family... The idea came from the recent post about waterfalls, and it got me thinking, i need something good, to really wow me, and make a 50-60 mile trip worthwhile for 1 geocache...meanwhile the family gets a day out Any suggestions?

Doh, I had this on my list to go get someday Edit - didnt see the disabled bit

On my way to get http://coord.info/GC2RVGX and ended up in a relatively new situation. I reached GZ for the cache, guessed where abouts it was when a herd of cows entered from an adjacent field. I am relatively new to caching "in the wilderness", as i used to prefer park and grabs previously, so was a little paranoid at the approaching cattle. I exited the field by the nearby gate and waited a little The cows went for their water and grazed in the field, but a couple approached the gate and entered into a staring contest which im sure was a bad idea. I walked away, they tried to keep me in view, so i went round a corner and waited a bit By this point I realised the cache was out, but I still had to get through that field back to the car, and back to work. To cut a long boring story short, the cows kept staring everytime I tried to enter the field, which was quite offputting, but eventually I just went for it, hugged the fence, tried not to run or walk fast, and made my way across the field They followed slowly which was fine as I was still walking faster them Got back to work and mentioned it to a colleague and he couldnt help but laugh, he went on to tell stories of him charging half naked at a herd because they were munching on his tent whilst out camping and any noise would have scared them off, and that they are very calm and dosile. Couldnt tell if any bulls were involved I can understand trying to wade through a herd that were in arms reach, but I feel a bit silly now when they were 10-15 feet away

Streetview Geocaching

Boom: http://maps.google.dk/maps?hl=da&ll=55.679723,12.591798&spn=0,0.000564&sll=55.679723,12.591798&sspn=0.000276,0.000564&t=h&z=21&layer=c&cbll=55.679723,12.591798&panoid=Oq_BSBcb7V9vs3VNrG8v7Q&cbp=12,263.2,,1,18 2 GPS units, full A5 pad with pen, and she is still looking..... dedicated That to me looks like a geocacher though -
On those very wet, or very late days/nights, ever looked at streetview to look for geocaches on the offchance you can see any Im not saying I do it and log finds, i wouldnt. But i have looked out of interest, and being from the UK, I find it interesting to look at US scenery and settings for geocaches. I havent found a cache yet, but I have found obvious places to hide one behind There is the obvious lag between the streetview camera shot and the time the cache went live, but im sure some caches will be visible

Puzzle or can it be a traditional?..
BrixingtonPaddler replied to BrixingtonPaddler's topic in How do I...?
Oh lovely, wasnt subtle enough i guess This was a plan to make some caches that brought back ideas from the letterboxing days. Cant really be a letterbox hybrid without the stamp and inkpad.. will stick with the multi i think -
I have an idea for a cache, or a series of caches to be placed nearby. But instead of the cache being at the coords given, but at somewhere very close by, and a series of clues, steps or hints are given to its actual location The actual location will only be about 20-30 ft away from the posted cache, but a description of, Cache is 10 paces away on bearing 235 degrees etc.. Would that be classed as a puzzle, multi, or could it go in as a traditional? Many thanks

Well done

Thought as much, I did think at one point that hiding one put your number up anyway, think I logged another at the same time to think that One thing I wont be doing then, its just not cricket
-
Android has the best one.. C:geo - stick that on your dash, drive along and you have a top down view of Google maps with every geocache appearing as you approach - signal permitting
-
It sounds like an odd question, where is the fun in finding your own hides, but can it be done? Thanks

I complain about a long shift that ends at 9pm in Devon (where the locals riot over a warm cider) ... thoughts go out to anyone caught up in the unpleasantness some people have caused us for a quick buck. Puts things into perspective living so far from "Big" cities. Didnt meant to derail thread like that, hope Nattybooshka is in one piece Back on topic... would be interesting to know if any caches become disabled in those areas

Meh, why not... https://plus.google.com/110827539991209099890/posts

Hi folks Just a quick question about placing a multicache. I have read the guidelines and it mentions physical parts of the multi need to be 161m apart from another cache My question is, does the starting "marker" have to obey this rule, or is just the final "cache" that has to (as long as all stages are reference points and not anything I have put out) Thanks

Garmin Etrex Venture HC (£120ish although I just got a new one off ebay for £53) will give you your planting coords, but will also allow you to do the longer walks without draining the battery of your iphone
-
how can it be that when the cache description clearly tells you ? What I meant was, I saw the article on the news about a suspect object, and the first thing I did was look for any cache in the area.
-
True, hardly has wires with it Still, it was my initial thought to see what geocaches were in that area

I see this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14438239 I instantly think http://coord.info/GCMEP5

Im a bit like you, I used a HTC Desire HD and the Venture HC too (only just got it and not "field" tested properly yet). My idea is to use the HTC for quick finds, or looking at whats around, then use the Garmin for predetermined routes or precision. I have preloaded a pocket query of 500 caches in so I can easily get it out when the HTC fails to zero in. The walk idea was the main reason for getting, a trail of 20-25 caches is much easier with something you can leave on and watch without risk of the battery draining away before the end of it. As for added maps, there are the Garmin Navigator maps for each area, not sure how much they are, but it will add a new level of detail to an area of the map -
I enjoy placing caches and getting those first mails through just as much as finding a challenging cache. It is the new finders that make this worthwhile for me so thanks to you too
