  1. That's called "dropping a cache" when you can't find the original and can't bear to log a DNF. "My, look what I found! It sure looks like the cache. Funny that it looks so familiar "
  2. With WestCoast out, its only SoCal Admin to approve. I would imagine it could take a full week or more for him to OK a cache. You might look in the forums at socalgeocachers.com to see if there's any more info. SoCal Admin and SoCal Geocacher's web master are very closely related Edit: I think we've gotten spoiled with our 1-2 day turn around lately. A week isn't out of line at all.
  3. Perhaps they saw it as the high point in their caching career and just haven't found anything else worthy. Yeah, that's the ticket!
  4. I think its crucial that each way point in a multi cache is bullet proof and ready to stand for several years. I like to use stamped brass tags, washers or even laser printed labels. Of course some of my WPs are less durable but I limit them to areas I frequent. All the WPs in 'Snakes & Ladders', 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead' and 'Lassie Get Help' will hold in the weather and can't walk off. When that stupid film can with a scrap of newspaper goes MIA, no big deal.
  5. $kimmer (2675 found) More humiliation at a Dan-oh cache, so what else is new? I aim to please!
  6. I'd love to PhotoShop the muffler guy into a pair of fishnet hose but I just can't find an image source that's safe for work! Even with Google's safe image search on, I get some wild stuff. I dare ya to turn it OFF! I'm not even counting my work load today either.
  7. How about a link to your own bookmark page? I already have Dan-oh's San Diego must-do caches set up and listed public.
  8. I too carry basic cache supplies and I've unofficially adopted a few caches as well. Now that I've cached for a while, I have mixed emotions about revamping unmaintained caches, especially when the owner isn't caching any more. Specifically, I've taken care of Nature Trail Cache (GC3D44) for over a year by replacing the container, adding a new log and new trade items. I've also looked after Old Glory Fletcher Point Peak (GCC8A) as well, with a replacement ammo can and new log. The first cache isn't very remarkable while Old Glory is a very cool adventurein a unique spot. I can edit neither page nor correct bad coordinates. (I've requested an adoption on Old Glory but thats a very slow process) I believe that most of the time, its better to archive an old cache and replace it with a new one. Having a cache page that can't be updated is a liability and can mess up future cachers. Outstanding caches that are rarely visited and that have an outstanding value can be worth maintaining as a cache community. That's my .02, what's yours?
  9. I think it implies that you can get a FTF if you're a premium member, or at least have a better shot at it. Isn't the new "published" email notification a premium benefit?
  10. To tell the truth, I've considered that exact thing before.
  11. The Muffler Man is back in Escondido and in typical fashion, the FTF hounds knew it was published before I did. Simply amazing!
  12. Glad to hear that you're alive and kicking, you snotty-faced heap of parrot droppings! You did come here for abuse, didn't you?
  13. I do believe that hawk is pining for the fjords.
  14. Now I need to turn that quote into a new caching t-shirt!
  15. I've heard of a navel orange, a navel ring and even navel lint. I think navel jelly is what they use for an ultra-sound on a pregnant woman's belly.
  16. Off the current thread subject? I didn't know there was one. Thanks for the heads up. Since I never go to the main page, I don't get a chance to see featured pictures. After 20 or so refreshes, I got a screen shot. Too cool! Um, that's me in the light blue in case you were confused.
  17. So much for my attempt at GC75C3 - Peak-A-Boo: Mt. Whitney this past week. Between snow, ice and altitude sickness, most of our group was out of the running. We ended up backpacking/camping at Trail Camp, 12,000 ft for the night but not trying for the summit. Its hard to even know if the cache was locked under the reported 2-3 ft of snow. About 1/2 the hikers were turning back while some went ahead. I have a full gallery here: http://danoh.smugmug.com/ This has got to be one of the more tiring DNFs I've logged yet. We'll be back next summer for sure! Dan-oh
  18. Wazzat Cow Spots? If you don't have something nice to say...
  19. Ding-ding-ding! We have a winnah here folk! FTF is absolutely made up so there ARE no rules to FTF. Reminds me of a fun movie quote: Vern: You think Mighty Mouse could beat up Superman? Teddy: What are you, cracked? Vern: No, I saw him on TV the other day, he was holding five elephants in one hand. Teddy: Boy, you don't know nothing. Mighty Mouse is a cartoon. Superman's a real guy. There's no way a cartoon could beat up a real guy. Splitting hairs over a non-existent FTF prize/designation is just as silly. Doing it within the cache logs is bad taste. Dan-oh
  20. Sorry HelBob. I can't hear of a pet named "Precious" without my brain firing back: "It rubs the lotion on its skin....else it get the hose again!" --TT-- Eww! Man, now I'll have images from that movie stuck in my head today. Lesse, happy thoughts now...um, cute kittens with big eyes! ponies! hot cocoa with itty-bitty marshallows! Whew, that helps.
  21. So much for quietly slipping in a find on Snakes & Ladders. As I was browsing the cache map for my area yesterday, I saw an unfound multi in Kit Carson park. It wasn't until I got a few steps further that I realized that the mysterious cache is actually Snakes & Ladders (GCJG08). I've been tricked by the map several times now because I'm not the registered owner, Parsa is. I'm listed as a co-hider but that doesn't show in the stats. The map shows your finds and your own caches as checked off. S & L hadn't been checked because I neither "owned it" nor found it. As soon as I posted my back-dated "find", I realized that I sent a message out to all 30 cachers that have it on their watch list. Doh. Talk about an announcement! I'm curious to hear how our San Diego group feels about this. I'm especialy interested what cachers think that have completed (or attempted) the S&L cache. Chime in.
  22. I like chocolate brownies, without nuts please. Be sure to overnight them so they don't get stale.
  23. Argggh! Its located in Flushing Meadows but I can't remember who the alien was. Wasn't it the same guy from Criminal Intent, with the eternal 5 o'clock shaddow? Edit: wait, wait...Edgar?
  24. SO, was this cache muggled...by the bomb squad? September 18 by Dr. Boggis (430 found) Not only has the final WP been muggled, but they've fenced off some of the area near some of the early waypoints for remodeling, or something. I'll see what they do down there before deciding whether to remove this one for good. The fenced off part is the police lime and the muggle part is when they blew it up, right? Quite honestly, even though Dr Boggis' cache (GCJZ6P) is the closest, I don't think its the one. GCBB32 is close too but its doubtful.
  25. PL Adhesive works great for filling gaps and comes in caulking tubes. Its similar to silicone in consistency but isn't clear. Available at Home Depot and other fine department stores. http://www.stickwithpl.com
