  1. I once opened an ammo can which had two unopened packs of Juicy Fruit gum in it. The smell, while not a bad smell, was so strong it almost staggered me. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.

  3. I have a Palm M130 and an original Handspring Visor (2mb), neither of which I am using. The Palm M130 is new, and I haven't really used it except to charge it, and set the date/time. Includes full retail packaging. The Visor is used, and I gave it to a friend of mine, until she didn't want it anymore. Since she didn't like the black case case of the Visor, she used blue nail polish on it. Other than that, it works fine. All required accessories (PDA, USB cradle and charger). I am pretty sure I have the CD, but if not, the software is downloadable. I don't really need anything, but I'd consider trading them both for a decent digital camera (I have a JamCam 3.0 already). I don't do ebay. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  4. My goal is to pass Floopy's count by December 31 2002. You didn't say if the goals had to be realistic. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  5. I keep a personal logbook. I also have a pocket query called "my finds" ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  6. Just curious if you have the waypoints for those cemeteries? The reason I ask is that I am looking at MapSource, and there seems to be a big park at N40 41.784 W74 12.107 called Weequahic Park, and it's less than 1 mile from the Route 9 ramps to the airports. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  7. wow, brdad, looks like the initial test was more than a success. I might have to give it a try, now that you've put things into perspective. The other web pages sounded a bit more complex than I wanted. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  8. Probably a silly question, but hey, so far I've only cached in the heat of the summer... Here in NJ, the weather is starting to turn. Today, while I was driving down 287, I ran into snow flurries, and we had a brief dusting last week. I've never really been an "outdoorsman". I have a pair of nice hiking boots, but I purchased them about 10 years ago, specifically for Alpenkettern. Other than pairs of gloves which I constantly loose, no real cold-weather gear. Hey, I'm a sluggard. I walk 50 feet to my car, then another 50 feet to my office. So what's a good clothier for outerwear? Mainly a jacket, because all I have is my metal-daze leather jacket. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Mr. Snazz:My point isn't invalid. You're asking why we don't call our hands "feet", or why we use the term "head" instead of "kazoo". The point is that internet time is trying to re-standardize time-keeping in a numerical base (base-60 verses base-10) for which it cannot easily fit. Ask a farmer to re-schedule his crop management based on internet time, and I suspect you'd get a funny look. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Mr. Snazz:If we had started out using beats from the beginning, and some whacko watch company suggested that we switch to "hours", "minutes", and "seconds", wouldn't you all think _that_ was stupid, too? Invalid point. Being a cacher, a basic knowledge of navigation (and by way of inference, time measurement) should reveal that the heavenly bodies don't obey a base-10 counting system. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  11. Alan2, that's a very cool website, thanks! I'm biased. Take I287 exit 30A (Basking Ridge) onto Maple Ave. I drive to work this way, and it's very nice. You can hit an easy virtual on the way, and then head to the swamp (only one cache located there). I haven't been to the swamp for two weeks, so I don't know how it's doing, but I'm sure it's very nice by now. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  12. I asked the same question: http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=5740990093&m=4170918615&r=6920995815#6920995815 ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  13. It's a dessert topping. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  14. Internet time is a marketing ploy by Swatch, to sell more watches. Basically, it's a way to keep global time, without time zones. I fart in it's general direction. http://www.timeanddate.com/time/internettime.html ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  15. I just pulled down NJ from the main page, to see if there's any new caches. I do that at work all day, I'm not obsessed, am I? Well, now it's different! Cool! ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  16. quote:Originally posted by daveH:At lease in Lincoln Illinois. surveytech, who posts in the benchmark section, once stated that the layout of the 13 colonies (NJ, for one, where I reside) is different than the rest of the states. I think that may account for the straighter lines so prominent in other states. In any event, my town has no such distinguishing feature as your interesection, and the best placement of the "center" would be the little downtown area, near the RR and PO, but none of the maps seem to center here. Speaking of surveytech, if you're really intrigued, perhaps you could ask him? very helpful when it comes to these types of issues. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  17. I just loaded maps into my Legend, and it does the same thing. While displaying a map, choose the options icon, and select "Set Up Map". Now turn on/off "Lock on road". However, beware that if you enable this setting, it may have adverse affects on your geo-hunting. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  18. Maybe it's a geographical center of the town? I know it's not consistant. Here is my home town, as MapQuest shows it. The star is placed from MapQuest when I type in the ZIP code. I added the red dots myself - the one to the far left is the post office, and the other one is town hall. The red star isn't in any significant area. I'm not even sure if there's a house at that spot... I compared it to another town I am familiar with, and the same thing. The red star is from MapQuest, but look for the red dot between N Main Street and Meadow Ave. This is the post office. Town hall is a little further south, but not on this map. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  19. So call me slow, but it looks like this feature has been implimented: "THIS IS AN AUTOMATED EMAIL MESSAGE FROM GEOCACHING.COM This is a copy of your email. Please keep it for your records." Thanks! ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  20. Hmm, at first, I wrote that the center of my ZIP code was either town hall or the post office, but now I am looking at the map and I'm not quite sure.
  21. My avatar is a runic alphabet developed by Tolkien, called the Angerthas. It's based on a real runic alphabet called the futhark (named for the first six letters in the alphabet). In this case, the runes spell out the name "Azog". Azog carved these runes into Thror's forehead after he beheaded Thror. Kinda nasty when you think about it, huh? The title for the avatar is self-explainatory when taken in context. Most people associate runes with occultism, but for me, that's hardly the case. See my sig. Historical linguistics are a hobby of mine. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  22. Faderaven, Send me mail thru this BBS. I have an M130 which I'm not using. It's about two months old. Perhaps we can work something out. http://www.palm.com/products/palmm130/ ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  23. oh forget it. i edited this message like five times, and just can't make sense, so I'll just keep quiet
  24. For over a month, there was this cache sitting all alone on the closest 25. It is 6.4 miles from me. I cleared it out over the weekend, and today, this one appeared, at 6.2 miles. The second page lists the closest at 9.2 miles. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
