  1. You give directions by just giving the lat/long. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  2. Who'd I like to meet? Are there any single females in NJ or roundabouts, in their 30s, who are forum members? Count me in! Other than that, I won't really name names. Some people have too much bran in their diet already. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  3. TO be completely pedantic, we use the term "PC" to refer to any Intel (or compatible, like AMD) based computer. The term PC is/was actually a specific IBM model, the IBM Personal Computer. Which later grew up into the Personal Computer XT (for eXtra Technology, like the addition of hard drives, I think), and AT (Advanced Technology). ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Gwho:Bonus points to anyone who can figure out which geocache I was talking about. It's made difficult because the quote is a partial quote, and it took me a minute to figure out what I was talking about. Hint: it an active cache. I know! It's that "Lads Buttons" or something. I haven't hit it. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  5. This week, I traded in my old car, and as I was cleaning it out, I was mildly stunned over the detritus which had collected. More than half of it was related to geocaching activities: - Dozens of empty water bottles - Many empty coffee cups from those early morning runs - maps - more maps - cache printout sheets, of course - mud and it's dried cousin, dust - uncounted spent AA batteries Just to name a few. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  6. I'm jealous. I wanted to hit 100 before years end, but don't think I'll do it. Lots of driving involved, maybe he has a job where he travels a lot? ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  7. I live close to Bernardsville (about four miles south). I'm actually a member of the NJAS from the SH sanctuary. They have a new director, don't they? Anyways, mail to you is on the way. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  8. I recently placed a cache in a gorge. Over the gorge runs a railroad bridge, probably at least 200 feet above the river. During the NJ drought, I had originally scanned the area for a possible hide, and saw a television set in the river. It must have been heaved off the bridge. Now, the river is deep and you can't see the television set anymore. I shoulda taken a photo. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Planet:why are they allowing _HUNTING_ in a _NATURE PRESERVE_. Not a very good way to preserve nature! And don't say the pheasant herd needs to be thinned. Is hunting even allowed there? For what it's worth, there is at least one preserve here in NJ which annually opens up for hunters. I think they call it "deer population control". It seems to be a two-week event, tightly controlled. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  10. Well, my personal activity has gone down, but hasn't stopped. I'm not sure if it's the weather, or time-constraints of "the holidays". Plus, at work we just completed a huge project to move social services to a newly renovated building, which ate most of my free time (the project, not the building). ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  11. I've used Ad-Aware for quite some time. If you're so inclined, consider purcashing the Plus version. It has a "real time monitor" which makes it easy to detect and delete these kind of things. It'll pop up a window when a known spyware key is inserted. Plus, it also autodeletes various advertising cookies (like DoubleClick). ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  12. Thanks for the replies. Brian, I think I'll take you up on the offer. I actually want just one 30mm can (for now) to replace a cache which was flooded out. I work in Morristown, so it'll be easier for me to check out JR Tobacco. That's a dangerous store for me, tho! ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  13. I am looking for a local place (Morris or Somerset) to purchase ammo cans. I know about rangersurplus and some other places, but I won't purchase online. Ever since I've been victim of credit fraud, there are certain things which I do not purchase online, hence I would like to buy them in person. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  14. Sounds like you want to create a route so that you can hit a series of caches? Most mapping software will allow you to tag a bunch of waypoints and create a route out of that. I use Garmin's MapSource (MetroGuide). But I don't use the software in that manner, because most caches are not on roads. So what you can do is place waypoints at parking areas, and the create the route from them. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  15. There's no reason such an informative thread should be buried on the second page. How many of us actually go beyond the first page? ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  16. Mine's not impressive, but here it are. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  17. I suspect the folks at Groupspeak can easily retrieve deleted logs, so I'd probably delete them right now. I wouldn't even worry about it. This is blatent grounds for being barred, and I would be suprised if Jeremy DIDN'T bar is IP and/or his ISP. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  18. My apologies for the lack of reply. The Palm is not longer available. I was doing this as a favor for a friend, who decided that she didn't want the Palm anymore. However, now she's changed her mind and decided to keep it. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  19. You know, I'm bored and I'm scrolling around the message board, and for some reason, this thread (which has since lost it's original topic) caught my eye again. Fake not-founds? While I haven't logged any fake finds, there are two caches which I've been tempted to log no-finds on, to sort of spur either the cache hider, or "them" to archive the cache. One, I've been to twice, a month apart, and logged no-finds both times. Another cacher logged a no-find on this a few weeks after that. An awfully long time has passed to enable the hider to at least acknowledge that there may be a problem. Even if they can't get to it, it's good to know hider has at least some interest in their hides. The hider is mildly active, too, having logged their own finds in this time period. Yea, I think I am rambling. I've been in a routing training class all week and my brain is mushy, I think. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  20. quote:Originally posted by wcgreen: Grumble, grumble...bunch of males...grumble..don't know what do to with bread...grumble...men! Okay--here's what should be done with old bread: French Toast: beat an egg with some milk and sugar or honey. Dip the bread in the liquid. Fry it in butter. I mean no disrespect towards you, but I, as another single male who lives alone, can point out a few things wrong with this arguement: You assume that the bread is good. What if it's turning into a science product? Eggs? They go bad faster than bread does! The smallest group I can purchase is six. If I could buy them individually, that might be neat. I hear that in the olden days, you could. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  21. Ok, so I know the topic has come up plenty of times, but usually in the General forum, so don't Markwell me. I'm asking specifically about urban caches in NJ, and what are people's general attitude towards them? Would you hunt them? When I speak of "urban", I'm talking about high traffic city-like areas, which are generally safe during the day, but you don't really want to be there at night. I've only hidden two (traditional) caches, which haven't exactly been the proverbial mouse-trap (they'll beat a path to it), and am a little iffy at this stage in my hiding-career. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
  22. I'm still trying to decide if I should reply to this, or ignore it. ---------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be also be like him.
