  1. Heh. Oops... scratch that. Just changed my name, but it doesn't seem to have taken effect in the forums.
  2. I've been trying to use BaseCamp to load maps onto the card while it's in the GPS, and I also tried to install them before I put the card in the GPS. I can load caches onto the GPS fine, it would just be nice to have some more detailed maps when I'm trying to figure out exactly where we're headed. When I try to load maps onto the card when it's in the GPS using BaseCamp, the card doesn't even show up; it says there's no available system memory. What other information would be helpful? (This is my first GPS unit, so I'm pretty well clueless... it took me a week to even figure out where the card goes, but it also didn't come with any documentation, so I had to find that myself. )
  3. I think it just won't read the card. I reformatted the long way and it still doesn't read. Thanks anyway, guys.
  4. Mine is my online name for pretty much everything. I came up with it when I was looking for a character name for an RP mush (anyone remember those?). The character never took off, but I liked it and it's usually not taken, so I kept it. Depending on the group I'm out with, we're either Loki's Girls (me and SAzrael, with BenBen S. as Lord Chaos) or Chaos Inc. (all of the above, plus Swordsage). The first because, well, we're Lokians, the second because everything is chaos around the larger group.
  5. I had two instances recently. The first one, we were trying to get to where we thought the cache was, but there was a ditch full of water from the excessive rain we've been having. But hey! There's logs right there, perfectly positioned to cross the ditch! So, being brave, I was the first one out there... and the log rolled and I got wet to the ankles. Later it turned out the cache wasn't even where we thought it was. The second wasn't actually a problem, but it could have been. To explain, my partners and I already look a little odd; I have purple hair, SAzrael has aqua hair, Swordsage is a black guy with dreads, and BenBen S. is four and has no sense of propriety. We were caching in a Catholic cemetery, and apparently they were setting up for bingo in the hall across the street. We got a few odd looks and a very disapproving, suspicious look from one older lady. I just cheerfully waved and said hi, and she muttered something and hurried away.
  6. I recently started caching again after a long absence due to a string of rather dramatic life events. It had been 4 years since I logged on, and I was very happy that I still had my account. My husband has joined me and was disappointed because his preferred username wasn't available, until we realized that he'd registered when I did and he still had the account. Until we figured that out, he was planning on joining with a username that replaced the vowels with numbers (leetspeak). Sometimes people have good reasons to stop playing. Not every time, of course, but I'd been wanting to start again, just couldn't due to circumstances. (Admittedly, my story's not as good as the one above me, but I had to share. )
  7. Hi. I'm having trouble with my GPSmap 60csx. I have a 4 gig SD card in it, all the software is fully updated, and yet it won't read the SD card. I've tried everything I can think of, so I thought I'd ask here, since someone has to have had this problem before. Admittedly, I bought it from a pawn shop, but other than the SD card issue, I've had no performance problems with it. (My other half calls it the Etch-a-Sketch, since she shakes it if it's not pointing us right... and it sometimes even works! But I don't consider that a performance problem, just that I probably need to calibrate it, which I've been meaning to do.) I was thrilled to find it at the pawn shop, since it's a far better unit than I'd be able to get any other way and it's enabled me to both find caches and get my family into it. I just wish I could load some darn maps!
  8. Oh, she's beautiful!! I'm so glad she has a great home with lots of great walks to look forward to with you. I have a friend who's a dog trainer (and generally just doggie-crazy) and she says that the reason black animals are hard to adopt out is because they're perceived as scarier. Which is kind of funny to me; anyone who's met a pittie that's in a loving home would know that the only reason they would get scary is if someone threatened their family. I'm waiting to adopt a pittie myself, when the right one comes along and we're in the right situation. I'd hate to bring a companion animal into a situation where we couldn't care for him/her.
  9. I got my GPS at a pawn shop, and it's a pretty good one; paid $89 for it, a Garmin GPSmap 60 CSx, which apparently retails for about $400. It was the only one there, but totally worth it for me. (They had other GPS units, but not handheld.)
  10. That is really cute! I've gotten some great ideas from this thread; is it ok if I use this idea as well?
  11. I don't know if this is something that might enhance things, but since you have a story to go along with this, have you considered putting this up as an ARG (alternate reality game)? It sounds like you've got pretty much everything required for a small one, and it'd get the word out to more people. More info here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/ if you're interested. Just a thought. And yeah, I'd hunt it, if I could.
  12. Ok, got it fixed. My stuff is in my sig, feel free to add me. Just mention geocaching/caching/whatever so I have a clue why you're adding me.
  13. I sign everyone from our team that's with us, when I sign. Sometimes it's both kids, sometimes our housemate's with us, it just depends. But I think only me and my husband have actual accounts here.
  14. I can't get links and pics to work in my sig... anyone know why? *puzzled*
  15. Testing. Rubber ducky, you're so fine, and I'm happy that you're mine, rubber ducky I'm awfully fond of yooooouuuuuuuuu.......
  16. Never mind, still figuring something out. Sorry.
  17. Anyone else having weather problems? We haven't gone out in several days because of the massive humidity due to storms every day, and I'm starting to get antsy! Even now, I hear thunder. Dear Nature, please send the rain where it's /needed/?
  18. Some people also appreciate "having their hand held", as you say, because of mobility issues. If I know it's a long hike and my chronic pain issues are acting up that day, I'll know to skip that cache for the time being. You always have the option of ignoring the directions, too.
  19. My dad told me a story of when he was in college and harvested some (what must have been) ditchweed. Unfortunately, they were unable to dry it properly, so it molded, but they smoked it anyway, and he failed that semester of college! As far as the original question: not enough info, I'd have to be in that situation before making a decision.
  20. I'm Kitrona pretty much everywhere, with only a few exceptions. Just a name I made up, and it's apparently original, since I've managed to snag it everywhere I've registered it.
  21. When you literally dream of caching for several nights in a row.
  22. Nearest found: .9 miles. Nearest unfound: .7 miles.
