  1. I haven't gotten spam in either of the emails I've used here.
  2. I like puzzles that I can solve. It's something to do when I can't get out and look for caches that's still caching-related. Of course, the ones I can solve aren't that difficult...
  3. Wow... I think we've found the anti-kablooey. I've known people with multi-year slumps before, but that 10+ years is impressive. I was gone for 5 years, I think, but yeah, 10+ years is impressive!
  4. I have no choice right now but to cache in the heat. I am on a five week vacation in Italy reconectoing with some cousins I have not seen on 37 years, while they are working I am gaching this week under the Tuscan sun. The temps are about 100 and the caches are well spread out (maybe a few miles appart) I just carry lots of water one liter with me when out of the car and one in the car,and keep drinking it. They will last me about 3 or 4 hours. Some of the caches here are old school, get out of the car and hike and even a little 1/2 mile is a challenge hiking up a hill in 100 degree weather an being 62 years old adds to the challege. In closing do not sit home grab a bunch of water an just do it. Even in a city like florence you have to walk to the caches, driving is not an option, but who care it's Florence. Who cares about the heat when you are caching in Italy. Not good advice when the heat can cause someone with physical limitations some very serious problems. I've been in the hospital enough this year already, I'd rather not go back just yet.
  5. WELL SAID !! this should be copied and pasted onto a LOT of threads around here. the most recent being the one where the whole gang of you showed up to belittle the poor guy that wanted to share his good news about a great deal on magnetic key holders. maybe we'll read in the news tomorrow that he's jumped off a bridge in shame. shame on you all. ... I think you may be taking things a little too seriously around here.... That always seems to be the excuse from this gang. do you think that the guy with the magnetic key holders thought all of your bullying comments were CUTE ?? it was no different than the punks on the school bus brutally attacking the innocent bus aide. do you think that the National News took this too seriously ?? or the college student that outed his gay roommate on a 'public forum' much like this one. the guy 'killed himself' by jumping off a bridge. did the national news take that one too seriously too ?? you guys should all appologise to that poor guy to hopefully prevent 'him' from jumping off a bridge. you've ALL been 'out of control' for WAY too long and it's WAY past time that TPTB reined you in BIG TIME. go play in the little playground that you've created for yourself (OFF TOPIC FORUMS), and STOP your bullying. if you've got nothing nice to say, then don't say anything. Whoa, dude. I didn't even comment in that thread, and you're assuming a whole lot about me, which I really don't appreciate. (Since you replied to my post, I'm guessing it was directed at me... if not, you might want to be more clear next time.) I didn't know I was in a gang. But honestly, you don't see a difference between a discussion about magnetic key holders and dragging someone out of the closet? I was unaware that magnetic key holders comprised a large part of the poster's identity... learn something new every day. We all seen how you picked on poor Thor, for shame on you Loki Being that this topic has changed how awesome was the avengers?! Pfft, picked on him... he was always Daddy's favorite! Avengers was seriously awesome, though!
  6. Make sure the tictac box has a broken flap.
  7. The heat has slowed us down, but it's the yo-yoing temps and humidity that are killing me. We've been getting rainstorms every day or every other day, which changes the temperature by 30 degrees and increases the already ridiculous humidity; my arthritis and fibromyalgia are kicking my butt. I currently look like I'm trying to be a mummy, with both knees and an ankle wrapped, and that means no caching, since nobody in the house really likes park and grabs. Mostly we're just holing up in the house or staying in the pool. I hope the heat breaks soon. ETA: Admittedly, we're pretty slow to begin with... I can't cache every day, and even when I do, we search for maybe 3 or 4 at a time.

  10. Where do you get them? I've always wondered that... online. Google "soda preform" I agree with the poster that cheap cache containers are often associated with low-quality caches; but not always. Be creative, find awesome places to hide them, create interesting themes, puzzles, and stories. Cheap is not necessarily bad. Duh. That makes sense. I'll plead stress and heat making my brain not work.
  11. Where do you get them? I've always wondered that...
  12. Your link for the Illinois cache is directed to the Indiana one.
  13. Reviewers don't take action on something unless there's an NA posted, from my understanding. Which makes sense... if they had to go through all the cache listings in their area to monitor DNFs, it would be at least a full-time job, if not more.
  14. Mmmm, Shelby Cobra.... True fact: My husband and I met on a Star Wars forum. Along with quite a few people we're still friends with. One was a housemate for a while, and another one (Silvertongue) has moved in permanently. Crazy world.
  15. I'm one of Loki's girls. Pretty simple, really.
  16. I am talking worse case and in a suburban or urban environment. The multipath interference can actually be worse between two houses or apartment buildings than in a forest. Also some smart phones will use WiFi to supplement and sometimes instead of the GPS signals. You have a better chance of getting a WiFi signal near a bunch of houses than near a bunch of trees. You just have to read the forums to find examples of this. Our neighbor gets our wifi signal clearly in his house, but only when he plugs his phone in. That said, our houses are like 15 to 20 feet apart (we have very narrow lots).
  17. Geocaching, to me, is a method to overcome ones fears.. such as sticking your hand blithely into unknown, filthy places.. like guardrails! Especially in Fallout 3, which is a post-apocalyptic/"after the A-bombs fell everywhere" video game with such lovely things as giant cockroaches, scorpions, and "feral Ghouls" (people so far gone from radiation sickness that they essentially act like fast zombies).
  18. I got a new one. I was playing Fallout 3 yesterday and saw a guard rail, and mentioned to LokiBit, "Ok, I'm really bad. I saw that and just wondered if there was a cache in it..." (It's new to me, anyway.)
  19. Or in northwest Indiana/southeast Chicago suburbs?
  20. Dunno. There seems to be quite a bit of entitlement in your posts. No. A CO is not required to respond to your DNFs. No. A CO is not required to run right out and check on your DNF. (Example: Someone DNFed the second stage of one of my multi caches last January. I finally got out to check last weekend. It was still there. They are very good cachers, so I did rate it as a 40% chance being missing. But it was still there. It is a rather steep 300' climb over a very rocky area. Took me over three hours to check on the stage.) I've got a number of caches with strenuous hikes to get to them. They may not get found often, but they are usually very nice caches in great places. If your sense of entitlement prevails, (that a CO MUST respond immediately, that a CO must respond to your DNF) then I would probably archive about half my caches. PNG is the only thing that fits your demands. What this sport was, originally, was taking people on a nice hike to a pretty place. Those endowed with entitlement seek immediate responses/CO checks. Ignore caches that annoy you. How simple is that! Stop making unreasonable demands. Go find a lamp post cache. That will keep you happy. Um, perhaps I read it differently from you, but I didn't see the OP demanding that the cache owner respond to DNFs... the OP sent an actual message, from what I understand. And they did say that after waiting a month, they sent a second message. So... not sure what that's all about.
  21. Suspects? They confirmed that it was just a Geocache, why are these guys still being called "suspects"? They obviously weren't intending to cause a bomb scare. What are they going to charge them with, littering? Just to note, the article said "subjects suspected", which isn't quite the same thing as calling them "suspects".
  22. Yup, me too. And when I see an interesting place, I think, "I wonder if there's a cache there, or if I could place one there if there's not." Or we'll pass someplace I've seen on the map as having a cache and tell everyone in the car, "There's a cache there!" (They usually ignore me, except the 4 year old. He always asks if we can go find it. ) And I admit that I look at containers and go, "Hmm, I wonder if that'd be waterproof enough for this climate?" ETA: Oh, and reading logs! I do that a lot.
  23. Ironically, while reading this thread I got a phone call from someone wanting to talk to my husband in connection with a "settlement" conference tomorrow. When I asked her what it was about, she stammered around and finally pulled out the "Well, you're not on this account, so I can't give you any information," so I told her that with no information, there's no way to know she's legit, and she said she'd just call back later. (I suspect it's in regards to our mortgage, but really... I'm supposed to just be all "Oh, ok! Sure, I have no idea what you're talking about or who you or your firm are, but I'll wake my husband up, who by the way works nights, so he can talk to you! Why don't I give you some social security numbers and bank account info while I'm at it?")
  24. UGH. That sounds frustrating as all heck.
