  1. I have a Garmin 76csx and I just got a new Macbook. I want to be able to create transparent maps of my trails and download to the gps. I currently have no programs on the Mac not even any from Garmin. I am looking for suggestions as to the best programs to get. Thanks in advance. Caz
  2. I want to do some basic map making such as adding transparent maps to my Garmin GPS to show the tracks I have been making as trails. Does anyone have any suggestions? Caz
  3. I'm very new to geocaching but I do spend many hours outdoors at my other hobby birding. Ticks have been a topic of discussion with that group as well. We are finding ticks all over southern ontario. In places that had non only a couple years ago. We have found the best thing to do is stop and do regular tick checks of your pants when in grassy areas. As often as every few minutes. Of course a complete head to toe check at the end of the day is still required. I know of one person who's personal record is 168 in one day. All in all this still has to be one of the safest places in the world to enjoy the outdoors. Caz
  4. I rebooted the computer, reinstalled the USB drivers and hooked directly to a USB port instead of the USB hub and everything work as its supposed to so which one fixed the problem I don't know for sure. Probably reinstalling the drivers. Thanks very much for your help. Caz That probably means you need to reinstall the USB drivers. If the computer recognizes the unit as new hardware, it should either present you with a wizard to install the new hardware, or after a brief pause it should either say your new hardware is installed and ready to use, or the new hardware balloon just goes away by itself. Are any of these what is happening? I always get the new hardware message after upgrading MapSource. After the upgrade, MapSource won’t connect to the unit until I reinstall the drivers. You would think that this would be done automatically as part of the upgrade installation, but it doesn’t seem to be. Even if that isn’t what caused yours, the symptoms sound exactly the same, so the fix is probably the same too. If you get the wizard, tell it that you want to install the new hardware, select automatically, and tell it not to connect to the Internet. It should then search your computer, find and install the drivers. (Apparently, the driver files are put on your hard drive during the upgrade, but they aren’t actually installed.) After that, MapSource should connect to your unit. You may also have to disconnect the unit from the cable and restart MapSource; I can’t remember.
  5. I want to down load my maps from map source to my gps but I get an error code saying device not found. On the GPS under USB (Garmin Data Format) it says Not Connected. Yet the the plug symbol in the corner shows the unit is being powered by the USB cable and the computer recognizes it as new hardware. Am I missing something?
