  1. And there I was thinking Nude Cacher would be the winner
  2. Ooooh, I like that idea! Might see if I can get it, then send it on a mission across the waters!
  3. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=204434653 And you thought cache placements like that were a recent invention - although these may have been classified as moving.
  4. I'm sure the site will soon be updated to reflect those caches that have been exploded or in danger of such a fate.
  5. Hi Bearskies, First Blackberries now tomtoms? Goodness! Can't help you on those, but if you're looking for other NZ cachers most hang out in the NZ GPS forum area. Garmin is the primary device of choice, but there are a few PDA users who may be able to assist. Cheers, G.
  6. For those of you with a surplus of hamsters and cannot go caching, you can always beautify your garden. Blend the hamsters to an even mix, add 1lb of sugar to every 1lb of hamsters (fur on) and boil for 15 minutes. Take the resulting syrup and spread over a cleared flowerbed. By Spring you should have a glorious display of flowers. I've found you can get lovely Tulips from Hamsterjam.
  7. I'm another for discovering new places that are off the beaten path, but still get a techno-buzz out of using a hand-held computing device that's receiving multiple radio signals from orbiting military satellites to tell me precisely where I am on the globe!
  8. Gidday Continental Drifter, First, most of the Kiwis hang out in the local NZ GPS forum, but to answer your question, there are no caches along the Milford Track walk itself, but a number of caches along the road to/from Milford Sound, in and around Te Anau, and plenty around Queenstown. Most are in stunning locations - that's easy given the landscape of the area, with a mix of drive-bys, short walks, and a few 1 hour+ walks. Have a look at some of the images posted on nearby caches - see the links below for caches in the area. Cheers, G. Near Milford Sound Near Te Anau Near Queenstown
  9. One of my early finds was a LTF - collection of a cache that was to be archived. I did it (and another) while on a 75km MTB ride: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~Sgf.hyland/ph...2/gutbuster.htm First cache just before the first summit, second cache at the second summit. Uphill Downhill cache Cache at the second summit (which took me a few visits to find!)

  11. New vehicle found for Hamstercaching drive-bys! No need for those back-to-nature hunting in the woods cache expeditions for your Hamster. The Urbanite Hamster of today will be at home collecting LPC caches with ease!
  12. This recent log caught my eye: in the back hills. Best bit from the log (in high winds):
  13. If it's an old Blue Legend then you may need to clean the contacts. Here's a link to the how-to document, but only proceed if you're out of warranty and willing to tinker! [Edit] Nuts - wrong document! There was another one that went through the same method of opening the Legend then cleaning the contacts under the click stick before putting it all back together. Use the info from the above doc, but don't unplug the display cables - just open the case and clean the contacts. Cheers, G.
  14. GCHF14 A Rakiura Nugget, my first cache placed, hidden Jan 5, 2004 and still going strong. Only 25 finds in all that time, but given that it's on an Island and is New Zealand's southernmost cache it's doing well. Main change was changing a 2ltr snaplock container to an ammo can a couple of years ago to protect against the elements.
  15. New Zealand Recreational GPS Society and forum (with active geocaching threads!).
  16. uh, maybe you're just too sweet and innocent, but that's kind of a code among a certain subset of people. please don't make me have to explain it to you. I'm all ears. Big, long, furry ears And there I was picturing you as a Knight in Shining White Armour! (I'm sure there's a big Hamster in there somewhere keeping this post on topic )
  17. [edit] ...on second thought, already covered. Guidelines are good. Capt'n Barbosa had it right.
  18. Someone put a micro in the woods?!!? I am really beginning to dislike these new Additional Logging Requirements! Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You muggled my cache. Prepare to die.
  19. Hi Pter, Worth tossing the same question to http://forums.gps.org.nz/index.php Cheers, G.
  20. Very cool - what is written inside the cube? Who was the vendor/maker? The cube has 6 (square) pictures on the outside, and opens up/folds inside out with three wide pictures: 2 of which are shots of my favourite caches and the other a description of geocaching. I used 16 2cm wooden cubes per folding cube, with the pictures printed onto (vinyl) sticky sheets then cut out and stuck on. Here's a good instruction set for making them.
  21. Well, these are slightly larger than tokens at approx 4cm across, but still our Sig item :-)
  22. Isn't it just possible that one of the reasons for this update is to keep 'certain custom maps' from working? Ken Z From what I've read I believe it's to do with the ProductCode/Family ID and ID values of the maps that get loaded into the registry. Garmin appear to have tightened up on what Mapsource will accept as valid.
  23. I usually use GSAK to tidy and filter things then pop into Mapsource for most things. But even just loading up the gpx file from a PQ into Mapsource, then clicking on View/View in Google Earth puts everything nicely into GE for taking a snapshot (or even going into GE Flight Sim for a flyby)
