  1. we had one in Washington State that was published on October 18th (though it says 15th). http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC2GRHF Earlier than the ones mentioned here I believe. Another reason my GPS 60CSX is becoming obsolete (first Wherigos, now this) Personally I do not believe any of these justify 5 stars though...if you have the equipment, its easy, unless they put an extra trick or made it a very hard hide.
  2. I admit the taste of a few souvenirs and a number of my friends relogging their few souvenir worthy finds to get them caused me to get them as well.....even though I kinda regret that now. Am sure GS will get them on as soon as they can. Am sure some certain COs will be glad when the retroactive stuff is done (ie Ape, Original Cache). If people do not want to bother with souvenirs, they can change notes or "will attend"s to find logs and at this time, those are not generating souvenirs. Personally I hope there becomes a method to block souvenirs for folks who log finds and then through whatever reason, that log is deleted. A souvenir should equal a valid find (or that other phone method if that's the kind of souvenir it is). I also like the idea of souvenirs, in theory, for some of the general accepted more difficult challenges...like completing a Fizzy challenge or a Delorme challenge.
  3. Challenges. Have found a lot of them. Almost 40 in the state of Washington and almost 10 in Oregon. In my profile I consider my 2 own challenges completed, but I have not logged a find. My sense based on Washington cachers general opinion, that I would be lambasted for logging a find on my own challenge....course, some folks do use sock puppets to get around that. However, I will not a log a find on my challenges though sometimes I wish I could. Moun10Bike has not logged a find on his Washington Delorme Challenge either, nor has Lizzy on her Washington State County Challenge. I find many people love the idea of challenge caches, even if there are some out there you will never get. I will never do the Forest Fire Lookout one or some other ones, but thats okay. Ignore them if you do not want to be bothered by them, many folks like challenges. There are some challenges I do not consider well made, but its not for me to decide whats a challenge. I have a set of rules in my head of what a challenge is (vs say a series) but I imagine it would be difficult to come up with a set of guidelines of what a challenge is. As far as souvenirs and challenges go. I like the idea in theory, but the problem with souvenirs....they cant be deleted. What if someone claimed a find on a challenge or any cache but the find got deleted? The souvenir would still be there. I imagine souvenirs will be flushed out more as time goes by. So, I love challenges.
  4. when I went to the event, I did think it would be a little disappointing that this icon was only for a 3 hour window in one spot of the world. I do think many folks care about the icons after all so figured some folks would be disappointed as I would be if I could not have gone (a whole 10 mile drive me for though). Its possible this event could come again though, I do not know Groundspeak's plans. Only like 150 people in the world who have all the icons and maybe an additional 150 more who could get them all, and thats partly due to the limited availability of that icon as you need that icon to get them all and only 1500-1600 folks went to that event on 7/4/2010. Personally, I cant get a locationless one, the other main limiter of all icons, but thats because I was not here before 1/3/2006. Was a nice event, but as one who went there, I wish they would do another one some day, so folks can have a chance again.
  5. did a multi whose number of waypoints varied depending how lucky you got. It could have been 12 waypoints, could have been say 20 depending how many dead ends you got. I forget the exact #, but I took at least 16 waypoints. All bushwhacking every one of them.
