  1. A lady has just phoned us to inform us that they had noticed that we had downloaded a virus which was slowing down our hard drive . She slammed the phone down on us when told we didn't have a computor. We hadn't even told an untruth because, we don't have a computor ,we have three .
  2. Oooops. No posting intended . I was only reading this page and must have touched something by mistakes
  3. We would be happy to see the souveir for finding caches today on our profile because we did found caches today. But,we've just looked at the souvenir section of our profile and we are puzzled to see the 10/10/10 souvenir has appeared on it. We did not find a cache on 10/10/10 so we have no idea why it is there.
  4. Surprising to us,wth regards to how the cache is now hidden ,you decided this was a safe place to leave "GPS BUG TOZER'S NUMBER 1" T.B.
  5. We,ve found that cache and when we were there we didn't feel there was anything wrong with the hide tucked behind the bushes. It wasn't visible from the path then. We went with friends who are younger and quicker than us.This cache was the only one of the three caches we did with them that day that we got a chanceto find , because our friends had looked behind the wrong bit of bushes first. And it wasn't an urban ,overlooked by houses environment which was another bonus. The parking was another story...
  6. We say bring on the rules/guidelines.(Both words mean the same to us , just that one is a softer way of expressing it) The way they wewre presented doesn't upset us. We dream of the day ,L.O.L., that "street furniture" caches go the same way as Church Micro caches within church grounds and Side tracked caches on Railway land . Also dream of the day that "stealth needed " on cache pages gets questioned as to the suitability of the cache location . Dreams !
  7. But hopefully there would be strict guidelines like there are for Earthcaches and there would be a point to going to the location, like learning something or the puiblished co-ords enabling an easier "finding the way " to feature of interest with some history attached to it . We recall having a little difficulty finding our to Sway Tower/Peterson's Folly the first time we went for a close up look.(pre g.p.s. days ) It is 218ft tall and an easily seen landmark from afar but as you get nearer it often disappears from view and you wonder which lane to take .
  8. We are sure we used to read on Groundspeak guidelines that caches shouldn't be placed where searchers would feel uncomfortable searching ,but we can no longer find that statement. It seems to us that caches that are close to and overlooked by habitable buildings,or business premises etc ,are becoming more prevailant than those that aren't. Of our last four finds three were overlooked by nearby houses. The one cache that wasn't overlooked that way was placed complying with the guidelines of a G.A.G.B. Permit Agreement! It sometimes feels like it is no longer a game of just finding the cache but of having the luck of arriving at G.Z. when no-one is in the nearby gardens etc . Some would say if you don't like them don't do them ,but with the growing trend for such placements more caches would be on the ignore list than not on it . It seems to us the time is ripe for reviewers to have the backing to question the publication of new caches that have cache page details that state extreme stealth needed etc .
  9. just this one will do the job plug one end into your "Blue" connection on your PC & the other end into your Etrex.
  10. Good points Nobby .We have been looking at Groundspeaks guidelines and many of the GAGB guidelines for this covered by Groundspeaks own guidelines so there shouldn't be any quibbles . And we have noticed since we last read them that "adequate permission " now reads " You assure us that you have the landowner's and/or land manager's permission before you hide any geocache, whether placed on private or public property." Groundspeak Guidelines 1.Fundamental Placement Guidelines 1.All local laws apply. 2.You assure us that you have the landowner's and/or land manager's permission before you hide any geocache, whether placed on private or public property. 3.Geocaches are never buried. 4.Geocache placements do not deface or destroy public or private property. 5.Geocaches are not placed on school property or military bases. 6.Geocaches should generally be at least 0.10 miles or 161 meters apart. 7.Geocaches are allowed in space, other planets and spacecraft. 2.Other Placement Considerations 1.Select an appropriate location and container. 2.Label your geocache. 3.Inappropriate or Non-publishable Placements 1.Groundspeak respects the wishes of land owners and land managers. 2.A geocache may be disabled or archived. 3.Additional regulations and laws that apply only to your country and region may further restrict geocache placement. 4.Instructions for geocaches that are on hold, temporarily disabled or archived.
  11. Urban to us means nothing about population density , but does mean any cache location overlooked by nearby a building(s) with a window(s) where a person(people) could be inside looking out .
  12. But if one day, "Police take at face value that the suspicious looking container is a Geocache with just harmless contents in it .The person telling the police it is a Geocache opens it in their prsence . Three killed .One was the person the other two were the police ".
  13. Overlooked by nearby house windows with a hint that is as useful as a chocolate teapot.
  14. The rule's not 1K, it's 1/10 mile whick is about 150m IIRC (unless it's changed recently). Our caches are placed on areas where the following restriction is applied. Quote "No cache may be placed on FC Dorset land within 1 kilometer of an existing cache or caches on FC Dorset land."
  15. This is exacly what happens. I've lost count of the number of notes I've sent about unmaintained caches and all it takes is a note and any quoted deadline will be increased. Question 1,2,and 3 = no. Question 4 and 5 = don't own a Net book or Ipad and never used our lap top for caching outside our home . You are one person and we have to cater for the entire country and with the increasing use of the above devices among the populace, deadlines are a lot shorter than in the old days of geocaching. Incidentally this was Deci's point which you seem to have missed. Also, as any cache can be unarchived after discussion with the reviewer (which this one has been) there has been no real harm done. Oh, we always miss the point .LOL So it wasn't a genuine questionaire ? Any cache can be unarchived? We(" we" not "me" lol! ) believe we have one cache that couldn't be unarchived .It is less than 1K from another that since being published has had a 1k distance between caches rule.
  16. Question 1,2,and 3 = no. Question 4 and 5 = don't own a Net book or Ipad and never used our lap top for caching outside our home .
  17. We thoroughly enjoyed watching it from 8.45am until 2.30pm . Then went out for nine urban caches around Poole because there wasn't the usual Friday evening rush hour traffic around there.
  18. Near GC2PJ1E "Log On" cache in the New Forest . This is a bridge ? Shown as "FB's" on the OL22 Ordnance Survey Map at SU 2425 0005 . Where could you hide a cache under that one ? [] There is nothing there ,up or down stream for 1 K http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=gc2pj1e#
  19. Takes longer to compose a log like that ,compared to a T.N.L.N. T.F.T.C. or your original log, but it would enable you to probably recall most of your time spent approaching and finding this cache if you were to read your log years later ...if you want to .
  20. Oh dear ,one of our " favouritist" "favorites " is a locationless, "Steel Wheel".
  21. Geocacher (IOHO)= someone who sets out to find a geocache .If the location ,container and company is good that is a bonus .The prime intention is to find the container .Why else would some of us sometimes spend up to an hour at G.Z.searching for elusive containers, and maybe return another day if we fail first time .
  22. Although we don't like the grey on grey ,we do like the large font size . IP board font too small for us .
  23. Aside from it looking so dreary , we don't like it because for our eyes it is more difficult to read the print . A bit like some books these days, especially cookery books. So many recently have the recipes printed in grey type on coloured backgrounds. Impossible for Mrs T.A. to read so they don't get bought by us .
