  1. The best hiking GPS money can buy, my twopenneth.
  2. Can you be more specific, whats the nature of you bugs?
  3. I run Hanel 2350mAh batteries in my Meri/Gold with no problem, I get 11 hours from a fresh set.
  4. Phideo check the power off timer, is switched off and not on auto. Which version of firmware are you running as an upgrade to the latest 5.12, is available from the Magellan site. http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/software.asp This should sort out all your niggles.
  5. This is normal and if you look where the seal is around the battery compartment you will understand that if the closure where flush then the compartment would leak. It is because the gasket which provides the seal is left proud that the back remains a little raised, it is obvious when the back is correctly fitted as the whole of the unit aligns. The Meridian range meets exactly the same waterproof testing as the Garmins.
  6. I have also seen in my list that to go straight to upload active mode just press GOTO ESC PWR.
  7. To get it into upload mode, press NAV GOTO PWR this should force it into the hidden menu screen then enter 99. You should then see the upload active note on your screen from here follow the instructions for the upgrade. The full hidden menu and lots of other Meridian info can be found on the Yahoo group Magellan Meridian http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Magellan_Mer...yguid=109848299 Hope this sorts out your problem
  8. Which version of firmware are you running? If it is older than 5.12 then visit the Magellan site and get the 5.12 upgrade. I think your problem will be solved when you have uploaded to the latest firmware.
  9. Check your version of firmware first before you waste time and possibly money. Older versions of Meridian firmware only support 64meg.
  10. What version of firmware are you running? Versions older than 5.12 do not recognise large cards. The upgrade can be downloaded on the Magellan site http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/software.asp Hope this will help.
  11. Lowrance if you do not own a Magellan and have never had one then you have never had a problem with one.Your reply is therefor an opinion and carries no weight. As a user I find the Meridian range the finest navigating aid for hiking and treking on the market. The expandable memory alone is one of the best reasons for this conclusion.
  12. May I suggest that for hill walking a mapping GPS is by far the most usefull look at either the Garmin 76s or any of the Magellan Meridian range. The meridians having the added advantage of an expandable memory. Another tip is to get one of the Ordinance Surveys digital maps such as Fugawi these give an ability to plan and upload routes and waypoints etc.
