  1. Hey all Uno and I were just curious to know if anyone on here knows the user name of someone named Rob Hefner? We owe him a pat on the back, but have no idea who he is. Dep&Uno&Co
  2. Hey all We will be travelling between Chicago and Lansing and would like to find some good caches to hit along the way. Can anyone recommend any? Would prefer caches that don't take us too far away from the highway, but 10 miles or so is fine if there is a really good one. Any advice is appreciated! Dep&Uno
  3. Ummm, no, that would take quite a bit of scanning. Maybe at some point.... Dep
  4. Hey all We replaced the original log book once it was full. We still have it and will keep it as a reminder of this great cache. We pulled it from the cache for exactly this reason. We didn't want it to disappear forever if the cache did get stolen. We have received some clues that it may indeed have been "disgruntled" cachers that caused our beloved A.P.E. to disappear, but without proof, there is nothing gained by going down that route. Uno and I appreciate all of the input and discussion regarding what should or shouldn't happen with this cache. It has lead us to do some deeper research and a resolution should be soon. Thanks Dep&Uno&Co
  5. This is off topic, but is anyone else having problems with receiving notification via email late, or not at all? I have been experiencing this for 3 weeks now and it is driving me nuts! Dep
  6. "Mo' Mentos" hehehehe, now that made me laugh. Actually this whole thread did. Don't know any of you yet, but dangit, you are some funny folks Thanx! I needed a good chuckle Dep

  8. Hey all Dunno how many of you have seen this series yet, but if you want a really nice bunch of caches that will challenge you both mentally and physically, then this has a little of both. IndyMagicMan is known for his extremely tricky "Shelter" series of caches, none of which we have been able to locate. So when this series popped up, we thought we would probably strike out again. But instead we found some great new places in the city that we had never been to and had some good laughs along the way. Today, we finally signed the log on the final cache and did a little jig. We just thought we would pass it along! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8f-684fb559e1b2 Dep&Uno&Co
  9. Ok, the thred title was place for Indiana cachers to chatttttttt, so I hope this is the right place for this. It may get lost among all the excellent accounts of the GeoBash (Wish we could have gone), but I am gonna try. We just moved to Indianapolis this past Dec. We discovered a number of very devious caches by a cacher that goes by Tennison Gambit. We had emailed a few times and he gave us his cell # and I got the chance to talk to him one Sat afternoon. Nicest guy in the world. He was actually at a hardware store working on another, sure to be, twisted container for his next cache hide. He said he would be placing it within the next week. So, a week goes by and no new cache, another week and another week, no new cache. Then his previous caches that were oh so popular, start getting crossed off one by one. He would post a note saying they needed maitenance or that they were in a bad spot, but they were never reactivated. Now, even more of them are gone. I have emailed, called the cell # and left a message, posted notes on the caches, but no response. I am just kinda worried and want to make sure that everything is ok with this guy. He was so friendly and outgoing when we talked, and had such awesome caches, that it just seems strange that he has not just dropped from sight, but doesn't answer emails or calls (he was always good about replying) We never had the chance to meet, but it just has a bit concerned. If anyone knows anything, would appreciate even just a response of "he is ok". We just want to make sure that he is ok, cuz he sure made us feel welcome in Indy and gave us some great memories out on the hunt Thanks Dep&Uno&Co
  10. Hey all We are desperately trying to find someone that may know a cacher named Clias. We are looking for a TB of ours that they picked up last July (05). It looks like maybe this person isn't caching anymore, but if there was a way to get our TB back, we would love to get it moving again. We will even pay for postage if Clias would like to mail it back to us. We have tried emailing but gotten no response. If anyone knows this cacher or can help us out, we would appreciate it! Oh, the TB is called "America" the travel beanie. Thanx Dep&Uno
  11. Hey again Thanks to all for the replies and for the advice. I was just in a really bad mood when I wrote that post early this morning. We had had a bad day of caching, and I was tired and cranky and just needed to vent. I actually did do some searching this morn and found there are plenty of larger caches and many that are downright evil once you get a bit further out of the city. Not to mention "Shelter III). That may be just what I need to make me go back to loving the ole micros on street corners heheheeh. Just ignore me on this one. I hope I didn't ruffle anyones feather. We really are nice guys, I just get a bit bitchy sometimes Hope to meet some of you on the trails Dave
  12. Hey all We just recently moved to Indianapolis, but this was becoming a problem back in Northern VA as well and from what I see, it is almost everywhere. When we got here to Indy, we immediately put in our home coords and what did we get in search results? Pages and pages and pages of micros. Now, we have nothing against a well thought out micro. But, it seems as though micros are now the norm instead of the exception. They are popping up on every street corner in our area, and there is no creativity, no thought, no anything to them. They aren't even fun to go out and hunt. We do them because they are all that's out there. There are a few people who get creative with containers or with the spot they are placed in, but these are rare. Most are just placed on a street corner, just so that they can say they have one placed. What happened to people actually placing (gasp??!??!?!?) ammo boxes where you could trade items and not just find a wet log. What happened to people creating caches that were big enough to trade items in, and that you could put an item in without fear of it being muggled? What happened to caches that were actually more than 1 star and where you had to walk more than 500 feet from where you parked? Now, before anyone goes off, I will say that we currently only have one adopted cache that is ours. We had another that was stolen, and another that we gave away when we moved. We don't believe in just placing 35mm film canisters everywhere so we can say we have caches placed. When caches are just placed willy nilly, it really starts to ruin the sport. We have seen a few caches where the description tells you where to park, and exactly where the container is. You don't even need a GPS. We constantly see a cache that was placed, soon get crossed off because it was muggled....hmmm, maybe because it was outside the local Starbucks? There is a cache in our area that log after log tells how the employees at a local repair shop literally TELL people exactly where the cache is located, so all you really have to do is stand on the corner and they will tell you where to go. What is the point? Yes you get another cache find, but is it rewarding? We have lost 7 travel bugs now before they even reached 1000 miles, all because of them being placed in caches that were too public. Now, we are currently working on two, possibly three 4 - 5 star caches that will not be for the faint of heart but, these take time and planning. We got the idea from a really awesome cache in Virginia called "Blood & Guts in Virginia". We started that when it first was published and it was a doozy. Unfortunately, we never got to finish it, but many people have now. Even just working on the first 2 stages was so rewarding. I can tell you that what was required for stage one of that cache made us think we were crazy, requiured 3 trips to complete (our fault) and was extremely messy. And we weren't even sure we were in the right place, but the pics we took once we found what we were looking for really made our day. We hope to finish it someday. All we are saying is that people really should try to put some thought in and make the game more challenging instead of continually dumbing it down. There is definately a place for a few micros and a few quick P&G's here and there. Every neighborhood needs a few. But, can't there be a few challenges that make you think? that make people have to work together? That actually have a really nice payoff that makes you glad that you spent the time and solved the puzzle. Sigh. I will stop ranting now. I am just really frustrated with the whole thing. Hopefully, others will jump on and really put some thought into some new caches for the 2nd half of 2006. If anyone in the Indy area is interested in helping us create ours, let us know. Dep&Uno
  13. Thank goodness it isn't just us that want the Google maps back. We haven't been keeping up in the forums, but decided to take a peek tonight after we saw the Mapquest maps back. We loved the ability to see other caches in the area surrounding the cache we were looking at. Many people seem to not like the random selection of caches that show up, but we actually found that very helpful in finding new caches that we might have otherwise overlooked or passed by. When you see one that is within the same park, even if it is not one that you would have chosen to do just from the name or difficulty level, you kinda figure it is a waste to pass it by if you are already gonna be there. and we have had some nice surprises with those. PLEASE BRING BACK GOOGLE MAPS!!!! Mapquest has lead me astray way too many times with incorrect info. Not to mention they are part of a larger company that just bugs the hell outta us
  14. 2Wheel'in has graciously agreed to help us jointly maintain the cache that we needed help with. Thank you 2Wheel'in for stepping up and helping us keep our favorite cache going strong! Dep&Uno
  15. Hey all We have recently moved out of the area, but we still have a cache out there that we would like to keep. We need to find someone who would be willing to help us maintain the cache. If anyone is interested, please shoot me an email. Thanx! Dep&Uno&Co
  16. Hey all We have placed a numeroud travel bugs only to have the stolen by pillgers or grabbed up by people who just lose interest in the game. One in particular, I have emailed the person who took him (within days of us poolaing him) and was assured over and over that once conditions were right, they would place him. Well, it has been over a year and now they don;t even answer my mail. It is getting frustrating. We have even offered to pat for the postage if they would just ship the TB back to us so we could start him somewhere new. Does anyone have any advice or tips? It is strangethat all of our TB's have gone MIA, but we placed them in various parts of the country so I don't think it is someone who is stalking our bugs. The really sad thing is, 2 of the bugs were done with froends of ours kids. They are both 6 and they both picked their favorite stuffed toy and we attached the tags and sent them on their way. Their goal was to reach us here in VA and we would send them back to NM. Unfortunately, one was pillaged in a TB cache so we know it is gone. (Which is really sad cuz he had a really hard time getting started and then once he did.....pooof) The other was going good but has suddenly stopped. and again, no response. I know this is the risk of a TB, but c'man, we need at least on ethat stays active. Any advice is appreciated. Dave
  17. Hey all Due to some problems with a plan that sounded great 6 montyhs ago, we have had possesion of a TB that was started by some elemetary school students in MA. We have finally got him back in a cache, but we really would like for someone to go grab him as soon as possible and get him on the move again. The person that picks him up needs to have kids in elementary school (read the bugs description page for info) and they need to be willing to get him moving again quickly. I feel bad about keeping his friends back at his home school in limbo for 6 months. We all know how it feels to have a TB just drop out of sight. The Travel bugs name is Simon from Wyman and he is now in the "Back To School Stache" in Herndon. (Zip code serch of 20170 will find it). This cache has been pretty active again over the past few months and even if you have found it before, if you have kids and can help him out, please go back and visit the cache again. Thanx! 18. Uno and I tracked down a cache last weekend here in Northern VA tat was in an extremely infested field. By the time we had gotten back to the car, we had easily picked up at least 25 each of the little buggers. We got them all off of our clothes and stripped as soon as we got home. Only found one more inside my shirt and then one in the wash after we did the laundry. But 3 days later, our dog had one on her nose so there must have been at least one more hiding somewhere. Nasty little beasts Dep
  19. Disquoi would probably be a great tester for this cache. He has a sadistic streak in him that shows in some of his caches He puts a lot of effort into making them challenging and fun and adds some mental gymnastics that I think possibly intimidate some people from even attempting them. Case in point would be his "You are the GPS" cache. We looked at that one a few times and thought it might be too much for us because of some of the mathematics involved. But finally we dedcided to give it a try (with the help of his very helpful spreadsheet to help with the calculations). We found it to be a challenge yes, but it also made it really feel like a team effort when we completed it. Only 6 or 7 people have posted attempts and finds and it is very accessible for anyone in the northern VA area. But since it requires both mind and footwork, I think many have passed it by (their loss). By the way Disquois, as I posted in my find report, there WAS someone that foound it the same day I did, but they have never posted it as a find. Shrug. I say post the thing, let people try. If you start seeing that everyone is having major problems and a few months have gone by with no one finding it, you can always revise it or add more clues. Or you can wait for that one special person who will find it and then gleefully rub it in that he is the one and only. Thats my opinion Dave P.S. Disquois, I am ignoring your Reston comment

  22. "whiners always have a way of whining about something." Ummmm, Lazyboy? Have ya looked in the mirror lately? You are really beginning to resemble this remark. I think you have made it perfectly clear that you are unhappy. It seems you have issues with a number of things that have been topics over the past few weeks, which really makes me wonder why you stick around. The only thing I see is a few certain people doing everything possible to rile up others in the forums about stuff thatreally is not that important in the grand scheme of things. I think about the best thing you have said (although it could have been said a little less like a petulant 5 year old) is that you are gonna help find some place else to start a site for locationless caches. That is an excellent idea! Now instead of continuing to insult those that disagree with you, go out and start a new site for all locationless cahes and make it a sucess and then come back and show us all how wrong we were. But please, PLEASE stop acting like the little kid who can't have his way so he is gonna go home and take his toys with him. We are adults here. Jeremy has the right to do what he wants. It is his site. Hell, I don't always agree with him either, but I think he does his best to make things work for the most people. All I can say is that in my opinion, there is a certain "tone" to your posts and to Senecas that really leave a bad impression. Either go out and prove everyone wrong, or live with it, but let it go! Rant complete. Now go play nicely Dep [This message was edited by Dep&Uno&Co on June 11, 2002 at 09:14 AM.]

  24. Yes, that is the one. Thank you Waldenrun.
  25. There is a cache in my area that we attempted a few weeks ago. When we got to the cache area, we found it was in a neighborhood (not unusual for this area). We parked and headed for one of the entrances to the park area between all of the houses, only to find signs posted at every entrance trail that said that the area was private property for the use of members of the homeowners association only. Trespassers would be prosecuted. Needless to say we turned around and left. We posted a note on the logs regarding this and actually found that a couple others had posted notes as well asking for some reassurance from the cache owner that he or she had obtained some kind of permission for us to access this area. To date, the cache owner has not acknowledged any of these posts and it seems to be a fairly busy cache. It seems most people just ignore the signs and go ahead and find the cache, but I just wasn't willing to take the risk. What should be the next step in the process? Am I wrong in thinking that the cache owner has some responsibility to post something onm the cache page giving the all clear? Thanx Dep
