Let me get this straight: You have determined that this hobby, as practiced by tens of thousands world wide, needs improvement and you're the one to improve it without ever having participated in it yourself? There is a name for this type of behavior. Can you think of it?
  5. Lowrance, I did look around in this and another forum before I spent my money to buy a Magellan. I looked for features and compared. Some people are having problems with their GPS units. There is no popular brand that stands out as clearly more reliable or less reliable than any other brand. Like computers, TVs, cars, etc. everyone has a brand they like and some, like you, have a brand they hate. Unless you can substantiate your claim with hard facts, your opinion is just that, an opinion. Unless you have some special insight not available to the rest of us, I personaly think it is irresponsible of you to classify an entire product line as "junk". One of my HP Officejets had to be sent back to the factory and HP sent me a replacement. That doesn't make Hewlitt Packard printers "junk". I ordered my Platinum with a large memory card. The Platinum would not format the card. I called tech support. They were aware that SanDisk had made some changes to their cards made in China. While I was on the phone, they e-mailed me the 5.12 update and helped me install it. Works like a charm ever since.
  6. Despite what LowranceTracker1 wants you to think, Magellan made a very good GPSr when they made the Meriplat. Must be why they are so popular. I'm certainly having a blast with mine. Whatever JUNK he's using, it isn't a Magellan.

  9. Magellan claims 0.1 MPH Accuracy. Even if they're off by a factor of 10 it's a heck of a lot more accurate than any speedometer in any vehicle.
  10. Opey, Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you ....
  11. Be more than happy to forward the e-mail I received from tech support to you with the update attached if you need it.
  12. Downloaded the new firmware, everything works. I'm ready to go geocaching. Look out world ....
  13. Just got off the phone with Meridian. They are e-mailing me the new version of the firm ware. He said he will post it to the website soon also. It's 5.12. He said Sandisk changed something on their disks wich forced Magellan to update their driver in the firmware.
  14. Just received my new Meridian Platinum,128mb card,Mapsend Streets and case. I'm ready to start geocaching! Tried to upload a reagion from Mapsend but it won't work. Baud rate is 9600 on both, the software finds the GPSr on com1 but it won't connect. I've tried a half dozen times to format the 128mb card to no avail. Is 128 too much? If so, why would offroute.com sell them together? Am I doing something wrong? Kurt
