  1. Before I go and join and/or pay to join any of the sites for maps, trails, topos etc., I'd like to get some opinions on other people's experiences with sites like gorp and trails.com, just examples, not limited to those.
  2. I know the Boston Harbor Islands recently removed all geocaches as one of mine went down upon request fromt the NPS. I was also recently in the Pemi wilderness in New Hampshire's White mountains and there were none there and a specific rule about it. I understand it under certain circumstances. Unfortunate that we lost virtuals and mystery virtuals to Waymarking , but the argument was made at the time by many that as more people and organizations became aware of geocaching that rules against traditionals would also pop up. It was obvious to those of us in urban areas where everything is watched. Always being right....this is my gift, this is my curse.
  3. Got my jeep, discovered it and it is on my stats page, but not in my inventory when I go to drop it. Any help?
  4. Yes, in that new virtuals and locationless caches have been "blocked out" of being created. Silly question...have you heard about Waymarking.com? There are locationless and virtuals over there. Please post a link to one. How about 548 links to each Pennsylvania Historic Marker that's been entered so far in that Waymarking category? Recall that historic markers were among the objects deemed "too common" to qualify under the "wow factor" test for virtual caches. Thus, those 548 new opportunities to explore history are also 548 virtual caches that most assuredly would've been archived instead of being published, under the test for virtual caches that had been in place for the past several years prior to the launch of Waymarking. I am very happy that Waymarking has expanded the opportunities available to us for sharing interesting locations. For example, I've waymarked every historic marker in downtown Pittsburgh (either as the owner of the waymark, or as the finder of someone else's waymark). It is a pain in the butt to get good satellite reception amongst office buildings, and to hide a micro in a place that won't be muggled and where permission and bomb squad callouts won't be an issue. Frankly, I don't miss the hunt for the film canister with the soggy scrap of log paper one bit. Waymarking allows me to focus on the history of the location instead. I could go on and link to other categories. Are 548 links enough? Why not have both? -remember, this thread is about how geocaching has been hurt by the removal of virtuals and locationless caches that were supposed to "replace" them - well they don't. I've proved that.
  5. How is the experience of visiting a location any less on Waymarking then it is here (save the smiley)? Waymarking is little more than benchmark hunting. Virtuals and locationless were much different - and better. How? Good virtuals include puzzles and clues, multiple locations and tasks - waymarks do not. Anyone can log a waymark - anyone, anywhere - the challenge of locationless hunts was to find a unique location.

Please post a link to one. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/details...3a-cff1f710d4fd EQUALS http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...80-ade1b98d4bea Makes me feel glad that I win. One you actually have to do something - the other you simply log. And that's a poor example of a virtual.
  7. Yes, in that new virtuals and locationless caches have been "blocked out" of being created. To borrow from the other thread about virtuals..... How is the experience of visiting a location any less on Waymarking then it is here (save the smiley)? Waymarking is little more than benchmark hunting. Virtuals and locationless were much different - and better.

  10. ...and how it has been hurt by Waymarking. Especially urban geocachers.
  11. Elaboration - Waymarking is no substitute for virtuals or locationless caches. The reson I posted it here - I miss virtuals and locationless caches.
  12. Ok, I've read all the posts now. Needless to say I was disappointed with some, though I never expected such a response. Some interesting suggestions, the least favorable being I should turn around and leave. If the choice is between geocaching and cruising (staright or gay), I choose geocaching. My enjoyment of the park was clearly interfered with, does my presence in the park interfere with cruising? If so, is that bad? What if I had wanted to play baseball in the park? Or watch birds?
  13. I'm not defending the public sex per se, but something tells me that this thread wouldn't be happening if it was a cacher who sumbled on a park where lots of straight people met to pick each other up. Indeed, it is my thread and I have not found that place yet. I started the thread as a single guy who was harrassed at a park when all I wanted was to be left alone.
  14. What do you do? Here is the solution. If someone solicits you, tell them you are straight and not interested. That should end it right there. If it doesn't, do like you would if a woman was soliciting you and would not stop hounding you. Get in your car and leave, or call the police. You can enjoy these places. So can they. I think most everyone who has posted to this thread has been completely disrespectful to the gay community by the way they have made little jokes and portrayed them as aggressive sexual animals. Yeah, maybe some of you were approached by someone who wanted to score. The only problem is, you may willingly or not gave them signals you were interested. Here is an example.........you backed into the parking spot, then you waved at them, then you kept looking at them. If you were them, what would you think? If I were gay and these were signs, I would say hey, Bob over there looks interested in some action. He backed in, waved me over and kept looking my way. Maybe he is just playing hard to get. I think you guys are forgetting something, gay people at certain parks have been around a lot longer than geocaching. You are encroaching on them, not them encroaching on you. OK, I've read through about half of the threads now and this response has to be the most ridiculous. I can't wave hello to people anymore? These places belong to ALL of us and should not be taken over by anyone for their selfish reasons.
  15. Following is NOT ok. And imagine if they knew his nickname was Cowboy X! Not sure what this is supposed to mean. My handle comes from a Sesame Street cartoon that I happen to have fond memories of from childhood. Cowboys, Rainbows, and my Park - all hijacked. Anyway, I never thought I would get such a response and I haven't read all of the posts yet. As for what I did, I called the local police, the officer giggled and told me that it wasn't their jurisdiction and that I should call the state police - which I did. I also emailed the state agency that oversees the park and let them know.
  16. This is my second experience with this. Since I cache alone and am generally pretty absent-minded, I usually don't notice what is going on until it is too late. I am used to people being interested in what I am doing while caching, but when the starring and following starts it gets pretty creepy and scarry. My second experience was at a local wetland reservation where I wanted to place a cache. It irks me that I can't enjoy these places without being bothered.
  17. The ones in Boston are called "Municipal Toilets" (or maybe "City Toilet") and are a great idea in urban areas where restrooms are scarce, filthy, occupied by the homeless, etc.. The cost is 25 cents and they are clean and safe. The door opens after 30 minutes, so there are no people "living" in there like at many other public restrooms. I know of three in Boston and was wondering if they are in any other cities. I would distinguish them from restrooms, outhouses, or other bathrooms like the ones at parks.
  18. I also have these great tag holders for Travel Bugs. 10 for $1.00 with FREE SHIPPING. They measure 3 3/4" by 2 5/16".
  19. More pics. Paypal available.
  20. Nice, sturdy little jars to hide coordinates for multiples. Finder doesn't have to open container and potentially damage notes. Easy to hide. 24 per box for $7.50 plus shipping.
  21. Thanks for playing Missing the Point Entirely. If this contest were a sweepstakes drawing, I wouldn't have any problem with that. However, the photos are being judged.
