I also agree that there are other projects, like rating caches, that may be more important. However this same idea could be applied to anything on the web site, including logs, caches, and benchmarks.
Jeremy I'm not sure of the reasoning for rating caches. I did the keenpeople ratings on some of my caches and they had more ratings that logs. Think that's accurate?
It may be accurate if the number of ratings only slightly exceeds the number of logs(given that there are some anonymous cachers about)
If there was a significantly higher number of ratings than logs, they would probably lose their meaning for me.
I know where you're coming from...
If you set the ratings in the same step that you logged the cache, then you could never have more ratings than logs.
With keenpeople, it was independent and there was no way of enforcing that you had to log the site to rate it.
This is probably a moot point anyway, as I don't think we'll ever see ratings for caches.

To clarify the anonymous bit: i was talking about those that do not log their finds

People may still want to rate a photo even if they don't log a cache

I am new to both Geocaching and my computer. How do I go about posting a picture to a log? I have saved the picture to my computer but don't know where to go from there. Can someone help?
You need to upload the image first, either somewhere on the net or,easy option,to "Geocaching".
Go to Geocaching.com http://www.geocaching.com/
Click on "My cache page" http://www.geocaching.com/my/
Click on "Change your account info" http://www.geocaching.com/login/user.asp
Click on "do so now" where it mentions about uploading images http://www.geocaching.com/upload/account_images.asp
After uploading, you will see a list of your images on your "images account page" http://www.geocaching.com/upload/account_images.asp
Right click on the image you want to post and left click copy
When you "reply to your topic",click on the "img" radio button and paste in the url of your image and you're good to go
hopefully

Edit:hit the button too early here

How can I do a PQ that contains all my finds? I have cached in a couple of states and would like to create a database of all finds. However, the PQ requires a country (other than US) or a state. Any help would be appreciated.
run several pq's and merge the files
Edit:Watcher will do this, and i think GSAk also.Sure to be others too!
-
Clyde,it's some internal date issue.Just opened some different ones in "watcher" and has the same problems.
I'm due new pq's today,so i'll clear out all the old ones i can find and start again.
Appreciate your help
Edit: Ok,i'm off to buy the "idiot" carton. An edit on my pq's will surely help!
Walks off hanging head in shame.....

just downloaded the latest version...looks cool
opened my most recent gpx file(received 09-02-04)
for some reason the "latest logs" aren't updating.it tells me the last update was on 14-01-04
searched this forum,couldn't find anything
checked the help file-basically says it will automatically update each time the program is started
any ideas on what i'm doing wrong?
When you load the GPX file does the summary at the end indicate the database has updated any caches?
The only reason I can think of that the data would not be updated is if the date inside the gpx file you are loading is older than 14/01/04 and you have the "Newer Only" option selected. This could be the result of loading an old GPX file even though you THINK it is the most current from GC.com (or perhaps the date inside the GPX file has been changed by some utility or something)
To confirm this is the case, try doing the load again but this time select the "always" option and see what the summary box says after the load.
I did have the "newer only" checked.Changed this to always.
Reloaded the file.
Edit: Says it updated 228 of the caches.Counts shows 262 caches,26archived
It's still a case of all logs have updated, except for the ones i have found
The logs ARE updated where i have posted a DNF

i'm guessing i need to find a checkbox somewhere to allow this?

Even after extensive searching at the reported co-ordinates and reading all the logs, I still cannot find them! Please help me if you can?
I didn't notice any DNF's for yourself on either of the cache pages you mentioned.
In my very limited experience, when i've posted a DNF,the cache owners have emailed me pretty much straight away offering assistance.

The problem comes from when you are on the cache page by itself and you download the single cache from the page. It just takes you to the Agreement page. It tells me I have already agreed to the terms and agreement. If I go to the mutliple caches page when selecting by zip code then I have no problems.

The only time i've had that is,after clearing the cookies, forgetting to log-in again.Simple, but easily overlooked.
Not sure what else it might be.
Edit:just did what i should have done previously.Logged out, went to the cache page, tried to d/l the co-ords,and got taken to the agreement page.Logged in,d/l no probs.

I got the easy gps program and the watcher program but I can't get any waypoints to go to them. I can enter them by hand into the easy gps program then download them to my gps. I just can't get them from the geocaching website to the easy gps program. I bought the premium membership thinking that would fix everything but I guess it is something else. Any hints would be helpful. thanks The Bandit
I sure wish someone could come up with an answer to this. I see there is other threads regarding this but still no answers to it. I even see where a thread on this topic was closed.
I continue to have this problem both on my computer at home and at work. It seems I just can't download waypoints. It only takes me to the agreement page. It does tell me that I have agreed already to the terms. I can clear out all of my history, cookies and temporary files, log out then shut my computer down and restart and then I can download 3 waypoints and then I am back to square one where I cant' download any more. I would glady buy the premium membership if this would solve my problem but as in other threads I have read the premium membership did not solve the problem. Is it just me that is having the problem yet or is there a fix or what?? It would be nice if someone could address this problem
Just a bit frustrated that is all.

What actually happens when you try to download?
Did you select maybe a dozen and only 3 downloaded?
or
Does it only allow you to select 3?
I just gave it a shot,selected 18 from 20
downloaded
opened in EasyGPS no problems
Give us a step by step blow and one of the gurus here will probably spot the problem(i don't include myself in that

I finally have gotten all my maps and SD cards sorted out. I only need to buy a spare SD card for when I travel out of my region. I bought 128MB cards because there was a great deal on them here where you could by one card for $60 with an instant rebate of $20 and another mail in rebate for $10, making it a total of $10 a card.
Here is what I have put together:
1. 128 MB SD Card with MapSend Direct Route. Contains a 126 MB region covering all of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennesee.
2. 128 MB SD Card with MapSend Topo for the US. Contains a 125 MB region covering all of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennesee.
3. 128 MB SD Card with MapSend Streets and Destinations USA. Contains a 123 MB region covering all of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennesee.
All cards are stored in an SD card case which is attached to the inside of the Magellan Meridian nylon carrying case via velcro. One card is in the unit (Magellan Meridian Platinum) and the other two are in a case. This makes it nice to have the largest possible area that I am likely to travel to and still be able to use the 3 different maps styles.
So who threw in the other $20 ?????

Open up EasyGPS
File
Preferences
There's a setting in there to change your co-ords
I think this is what you're after

I have a Garmin eTrex, and I have some questions.
Does the accuracy of the GPSr decrease as battery voltage decreases. Or, as the battery meter shows less capacity of the batteries does the accuracy decrease. I know that capacity and voltage or two different things but how does each effect the GPSr's accuracy.
Also, will using rechargeable (NiCd or NiMh, at 1.2v as opposed to the 1.5v for Alkaline) batteries in the eTrex have the same effect as low voltage Alkaline batteries?
If this has already been answered, I did not see it in a search.

For the time it took to type your post, you could have added another "rule" in Outlook. They normally take at least 30 seconds to do.
Umm...I've already changed my Outlook rules. Was just wondering. Sheesh.
It wasn't meant to be a personal attack, sorry if you took it that way.

Yep,and when your Magellan isn't talking to your Mapsend, where you gonna post?
-
The practical way:
Go outside
Let the GPS settle
"mark" a wpt where you're standing
"mark" another wpt and edit it by 1 degree(or 2,or 3,for more accuracy)
set the edited wpt as a "goto"
the GPS will tell you just how far away it is
You may want to do it twice(once for n/s,once for e/w)

We did 4 caches today,as we were logging the fourth, the alarm on the GPS started showing low batt(very low for the alarm to come on!).It had us right on top of the cache in it's low-batt state.

When playing back a "track" in the control centre, the time shows up as GMT,even though both my GPS and Laptop are on local time.
Looking through i can't find any preference or option settings to change this.Help file is no help.
Anyone got ideas on a fix?
