  1. Dicks will be offering the Garmin Venture HC Topo + case bundle for $99.98
  2. Bass Pro is offering $20 off any purchase of $100 or more through Dec. 14th which means it should be able to be applied to the Black Friday deals if you order online. Currently the Garmin Oregon 450 is on sale for $279.99 so that would bring it to $259.99 in case you miss the $250 deal at Cabela's.
  3. Clayshooter set the ball rolling this year for the Black Friday GPSr deals when he posted about the Oregon 450 being offered for $250 at Cabela's For those looking for a starter GPS Cabela's will also have the Etrex H for $59.99 Bass pro shops will be offering two Etrex deals: Vista HCX Topo + case bundle for $159.99 although it isn't much of a deal considering you can buy it there now for $169.99 Etrex Venture HC Topo bundle for $99.99 Please post any other deals you find!

  6. Is that barbed wire near that cache? Yikes! Up the terrain rating.
  7. Seriously? Have you got any caches that you consider to be unique? For example, I once had one where the first stage was a faked-up bronze weight-limit plaque on a bridge. I have never yet seen anything remotely similar. If I found a video of that, I would not care that he didn't give the location or GC#. I would be upset that some people now knew to look for a dummy plaque on a bridge, and those finding my plaque would have their sense of reward diminished when they found it. Have you posted any of your unique hides in the CCC forum? I have posted 3 so far (only two with pics/ video, only because I never took a pic of the other one). I commented on another recently that was almost exactly like another of mine. As I get back out to some of my other unique caches I plan on posting pics of them as well. All of my local cachers (the usual one that find all new caches within the first 3 months of publishing) have already found them so I am not worried about spoiling it for them. And most of them don't frequent these forums (at least they don't post for what I have seen. Maybe lurkers? Only Briansnat, HarryDolphin, addisonbr and one or two others I recognize as locals who post regularly). As has been pointed out in many threads the people who frequent these forums is such a small fraction of the entire community. The chances of someone seeing the pictures of my caches (or the videos online from Sven&Cup for that matter) and then remembering the location before they get there I think is slim, in my opinion (I hate having to put disclaimers in my posts)
  8. Sven&Cup, Have you really only been caching since June of 2011 as your profile shows? If so, man you have found a great variety of caches in your 250 finds. If more noobies could find this many great caches in their early days I would hope we would have so many more unique, fun caches out there.
  9. I have to admit that I have enjoyed the OP's video's and have gotten some great ideas from them. Kind of like a video version of the CCC thread (I know, I know, in the CCC thread it mostly is the CO's posting their caches). I guess it doesn't bother me since I know I will never seek any of these caches (assuming they are all overseas) and also my memory is terrible so I wouldn't remember the video's even if I came across one of the caches. If the cache # and location is not given then I don't really see a problem with it. Now if I knew that the caches were ones in my local area (as I have come across on the CCC thread) then I might not view the video's. Would it bother me if it was one of my video's was posted? As long as it doesn't call out the location, CO or cache # then I wouldn't mind.
  10. Anybody else notice that Jeremy has changed his "offensive" post? I guess his PR guy got to him and had him change it?
  11. One of the "stages" of my mystery cache Slukster's Toboggan Run brings you to a sled that has been converted for use without snow. Check out this crazy CO while test driving "slukster's turbo sled"
  12. This post used to contain other examples of crayon colors and their interesting "urban dictionary" meanings but I decided it was a bit distasteful.
  13. Way too much angst in these forums. That sounds pretty angsty to me! I guess "When in Rome...
  14. My birdhouse cache. A little gnawed on by the local wildlife but still in good shape. What makes it a bit unique is that inside is an owl that is motion activated and greets you with a few "hoots".
  15. IMO, It is a shame that we have to place disclaimers in our posts to make sure we don't offend people that the post wasn't even directed at. Please note: This comment was directed at EVERYONE in particular.
  16. +1 Way too much angst in these forums. There are a handful of poster's who you can always count on for a courteous and informative response (Briansnat and addisonbr come to mind immediately) and others you can almost be guaranteed a snarky or confrontational response (I won't name names, you know who you are ) I still enjoy reading the threads though. I have learned alot along the way and rarely get involved with the angsty threads. I do get a lot of amusement reading all of the angry responses to the often misinterpreted responses that send many a thread on a downward spiral. In the words from a comic strip in Mad Magazine (I can't remember what the name of it was) "Hey, Lighten Up!!" Edit: Alfred E. Newman's catch phrase was "What, Me Worry?", not "Hey Lighten Up". Anybody know what the name of the strip in Mad was that has the old white guy in it that the next to last panel in the strip always was "Hey Lighten up" and then some disaster would happen in the last panel?
  17. -That the phrase in the guidelines "Physical geocaches can be logged online as "Found" once the physical log has been signed" doesn't mean what I think it means. Thanks TOZ.
  18. Almost there. I need to get out into the mountains a little more so I can make it onto Briansnat's list of local cachers : slukster------D 1.90/T 1.92 (441 finds) Us North Jersey cachers aren't afraid of a little difficult terrain. I am surprised polskikrol doesn't have a higher terrain rating. Polskikrol is a mountain goat at heart and is always hiking the mountains. I am proud to average 582 characters in my logs (#138 on the list). I don't ever leave just a TFTC log.
  19. I have used the free program HTML Kit for many years for my Ebay pages and now for my cache pages. Works great. I have experienced problems when using "table" tag in my listings. It shows up fine on the computer but I have received many complaints from paperless caching GPSr users saying that the cache page shows up with a lot of ususual characters and doesn't always show all of the info. A little detective work figured out it was the "table" tag. Since I was only using it to add a background image to the page, I stopped using the tag.
  20. I use the Energizer Lithium batteries. You can get a 10 pack at BJ's for around $16. They last a long time and when they run low in the GPSr or camera, I then put them in my remote control and they keep on working for a while longer. Expensive, yes but for the amount of caching I do it is easier for me to just use them rather than have to worry about keeping batteries charged.
  21. Cue TOZ and his explanation of the guidelines... Oh wait, Clan Riffster beat him to it.
  22. I have been thinking about how I could use this device on one of my caches: http://perfectlysafe.stores.yahoo.net/totstarkit2l.html Seems like it would be pretty easy to incorporate into a homemade box of some sort. Since the magnet will surely get lost the cache could require that the cacher bring along a magnet.
