  1. If you are caching in Midtown Manhattan, don't even bother trying to use the GPSr. I have several caches in midtown and I had to use Google maps to determine the coordinates for the hide because my GPSr showed me being 2 blocks away from my location. If you are in Central Park or in an area not surrounded by tall buildings your GPSr should be reliable. On my cache pages I mention that the seeker should look at Google maps before heading out to get an idea where you are going. I also include very specific hints which makes finding the cache a bit easier. But there is nothing I can do to help you with the muggles. Some people say that dealing with the muggles is the hardest part of caching in NYC. This thread will probably be moved to the Mid-Atlantic forums.
  2. Hey Encino, Thank you for your insight. I agree that caches on electrical equipment are a bad idea but I personally wouldn't remove one or avoid finding one. I am curious. If you found a cache around electrical equipment OTHER than your companies or while you were not on the job, just caching, would you still remove the cache? While you are working it is you obligation to remove the caches but what if they aren't on company equipment or were found on personal time?
  3. Here is a map of NYC with caches: Would you have thought there would be alot more caches there? Except for Central Park (or maybe there is tons of room in CP but you would have to solve all of the puzzle caches before you could make an attempt at a hide there), there is tons of room for caches, based solely on the proximity guidelines and what you see on the map. But there isn't necessarily tons of room for GOOD caches. You can put a micro/ nano on the botton of any fence around a tree or on a stop sign but if there is no reason to bring you to this area (historical building, tourist attraction, etc.) why bother? And the muggle factor in many areas makes it tough to hide and find caches. But that just is the way caching works in this area.
  4. I have several hides in NYC and I ran into a situation where there was a beautiful park I wanted to place a cache in but it was too close to an existing cache (I believe it was about 180ft away) that was in another nice park on the next block. I tried to convice the reviewer to publish it considering there is a 50 story building in between the two parks but they stuck to the guidelines. So I moved on and found another place for a cache. That is all you can do. No need to change the proximity guidelines.
  5. My sister-in-law gave me a "4000 finds achievment" geocoin for Christmas (I am not sure why she chose this coin). I currently have 425 finds. My goal is to one day reach this # of finds but something tells me that, at the rate I am going, I will not be able to earn this coin for many years to come. Maybe it will be my goal for 2020?
  6. New low price. This is the best price I can offer. Oregon 450 - $260 62s - $315 With the free priority mail shipping it should be able to make it to you by Christmas. Can't beat that!!
  7. Ah, I can see it now. Instead of the local inn keeper on the 6 o'clock news talking about how business has been booming since the power trail came to town, we will see the local snowmobile shop keeper on the news instead talking about how rentals have been up.
  8. Both are brand new in unopened box, never used, factory fresh units. Money order or Paypal accepted. Please send me a PM if you are interested.
  9. Wow, this rationalization for why this trail is justified had me laughing my butt off. How DARE the CO expect people to go out in unbareable weather and NOT use this illegally blazed trail. Saftey feature? I guess common sense shouldn't be used as a safety feature (ie: don't go out in weather you are not prepared for)
  10. I can see the logs now. "Johny, Bob and I were riding my BMX bike down the trail today. Johny, the navigator, rode on the rear pegs directing us to the next cache. Bob, the runner, rode on the handlebars and was thrown off of them whenever Johny told me to brake for the next cache, which gave Bob some momentum getting to the cache. Now I was chosen as the driver since I have the best balance of the bunch"

  18. It seems they haven't logged on since July so maybe they have left the game? I hope your trackable shows up.
  19. I remember testing the code out right after I posted it and it worked but I see it isn't working for me now. I don't think it is a code specifically for past customers who have received the email but that might be the case although I didn't sign-in when I had tested the code.
  20. As DBV2 has mentioned, Gander Mountain will have a few GPSr deals on Black Friday. Please note that they require you to send in a mail-in-rebate to get the lowest price
  21. And let's not forget the annual "stock up on Lock N Locks" sale at JcPenney's for $18.88. This is usually the 18 & 20 piece sets.
