  1. In the latest design of our schema we include an attribute for this. Once third parties have a chance to prepare for the change we'll release it to the public.
  2. With deep apologies for the delay, I'm happy to report the design for version 1.0.2 of the schema is completed and attached to this post for your review. The strategy for implementation is as follows: Allow developers at least 2 months before deployment to incorporate changes Deploy the new version 1.0.2 as an option in the user profile Default all user accounts to version 1.0.1 (i.e. bump up the default version to the last update from 2010) Hopefully this strategy will minimize some of the issues we had the last time we released an updated schema, while still making it possible for users to take advantage of the additional data provided if they choose to do so. Summary of Changes • In general the schema for the Groundspeak specific sections of the GPX is now data type specific. In previous versions almost all data types were string. In this new version we want to be more specific on the types of data you can expect for elements and attributes. • Attributes, Containers, Cache Types, and Log Types now contain an “id” attribute. This “id” attribute will correspond to the value in either the attributes.xml, containers.xml, cachetypes.xml or logtypes.xml files that will reside on www.Groundspeak.com. This is being done to make it easier to add new items or change text values of attributes, containers, cache types or log types in the future. It is strongly recommended that applications going forward use the “id” attribute as opposed to using the textual value of the corresponding element. • The “id” attribute for cache, owner, travel bug, log and finder have been changed to reference a valid identifier that can be passed to http://coord.info/XXXXXX • Member Only (memberonly) attribute has been added to the cache element. If this is true then the cache is a premium member only cache. • Custom Coordinates (customcoords) attribute has been added to the cache element. If this is true then the coordinates in the wpt element are the users custom coordinates. • Favorite Points (favorite_points) element has been added to the cache element. The value of this element corresponds to the number of Favorite Points the cache currently has. • Personal Notes (personal_note) element has been added to the cache element. The value of this element corresponds to the user’s personal note for that cache. • Individual cache logs can now contain a collection of images associated to that specific log. • Caches can now contain a collection of images associated to the cache. Note these images are not specific to individual logs. Additional information can be found within the attached zip file. Our special thanks go to Robert Lipe of GPSBabel for his valuable input in this process. Download GeocachingGPX_v1.0.2-b.zip
  3. Simply hovering over the dropdown should work.
  4. Do we now have ownership of the challenges we create? Unpublished Challenges are under your direct control, so in that sense you would have ownership.
  5. Read the last update's Release Notes Update Mystery and Multi-cache Coordinates Now with Pocket Query support! In the last release we made it possible for Basic and Premium Members to add "corrected" coordinates to Mystery and Multi-caches. Visit the cache page and click the pencil icon next to coordinates, paste your new coordinates in the field and submit. That's it! The new coordinates will be hidden from others so there is no reason to fear spoiling the final location. When you download the GPX from the cache or generate a Pocket Query your new coordinates are included. Release Notes Geocaching Live API Beta The beta launch of the Geocaching Live API continues! This time we're pleased to announce four new partners: PocketDrake PocketDrake is a freeware application for devices running Windows Mobile designed for paperless geocaching. The aim of the program is to provide in one place everything needed for geocaching as well as to allow simple data management through programs on the PC. It is recommended to use PocketDrake in cooperation with GeoGet, because both applications share the same database. GeoStats Premium Premium maps and downloads for Portugal provided by Geocaching@PT. View all caches online and apply filters to find only the caches you want. Downloads are available in a variety of file formats to view on your device. CacheBox for Android CacheBox is a paperless mobile geocaching software for Android with online and offline maps support and Geocaching.com Live API capability. 6. A new version of Geocaching for Windows Phone 7 has been published and will show up in the Marketplace shortly. This update features: Bug fixes: • Postal code search working in German • Cache coordinates available for offline caches • Trackable search is working • Editing saved field notes is working • User-defined waypoints now working for European users New features: • OpenStreet Maps added • New map focus options Many thanks go out to all the beta testers who were kind enough to assist us in this release. Your help has been invaluable!
  7. In the coming days we will announce a change to the Terms of Use, Section 4 paragraph (m) which states: (Change is highlighted in green) We feel this change is necessary in light of the fact that it is simply not possible to police the internet as a whole for spoilers, and to attempt to do so would have the unintended consequence of occasionally stifling creativity and innovation. Groundspeak will no longer pursue complaints of spoilers outside of properties under our direct control. We can and will, however, ensure that Geocaching.com and the forums remain spoiler-free to guarantee a challenging experience and to protect the hard work made by cache placers. Elsewhere we urge everyone to operate with consideration for their fellow cacher's feelings and to resolve issues privately and in a cooperative, respectful manner. I hasten to add that past interventions of this nature were undertaken with a genuine spirit of cooperation and service to the community, however misguided the policy ultimately turned out to be on the whole. We believe our strength is in our willingness to admit when we got it wrong, and in taking steps to right the wrong. We're a work in progress just like geocaching itself. KBLAST, if you would like clarification on how this change affects your specific situation please re-open your support ticket and someone from the team will help you directly.
  8. We wanted to believe, but also we were being told by the providers that certain features would be coming and they just never materialized. In Get Satisfaction's case I think they still have not implemented full control over moderating users and ideas. We had to submit tickets to them just to restrict an abusive member's posting ability. That's just one example of where the feedback sites failed us.
  9. To be honest we discussed that option, but decided that solving mystery/multi-caches is an essential part of the geocaching experience and that everyone should be able to partake of this cool feature.
  10. It wasn't moved (far), just renamed. Click on the link that says, for instance, "In Georgia, United States".
  11. No, you will still get GSAK at their site (http://gsak.net). It just means they have integrated the Geocaching Live API into their application so you can access PQs, log caches, refresh data etc. without having to visit Geocaching.com.
  12. Maybe this belongs in the Challenges forum, but how do you plan to keep the required answers from becoming either irrelevant (the community can't see them to police bogus logs) or spoilers (the community can see them to police bogus logs)? It's not possible to see either the logs or photos for a Discover Challenge you have not completed yourself. Those aspects of the Challenge details will be hidden until you enter the correct answer on the completion form.
  13. When using apps that access the API, like Neongeo or GSAK, will the original or "corrected" coordinates be returned, or both? Well now that the feature is implemented we can create an API method to return the corrected coordinates when one of those apps requests them. So once the method is available those app developers will have to implement it on their end. It's not possible for it to just automatically show up like that unfortunately.

  16. Thanks. It was changed in one location (and then subsequently changed again to "take action"). Looks like the comment link was not, though. We'll get that fixed.
  17. Our intention is to eventually make the API fully public, but there are many steps between here and there. We have accepted around 150 requests for access at this point, so although a "closed Beta" we are not putting up too many barriers to entry.
  18. This actually received a partial fix. Google was caching the data and we put a stop to it, however there is still a slight delay in updating the map results (which can be fixed by a refresh). The full fix will be in the next release.
