  1. The scary thing is.......... I work as an environmental program analyst and deal with this stuff every day. The June 3rd memo from BLM refers to the National Environmental Protection Act. Its titled the National Environmental Policy act of 1969. Sheeesh!! Secondly, I hope they don't want environmental assessments, those usually cost tens of thousands of dollars, require public comment, and take several months to complete. That's TOTAL overkill and a waste of taxpayer money. I doubt a cache with a log book, and small odds and ends constitutes a environmental issue and since NEPA only applies to Federal Actions, to reference it here is totally bogus. I dont think they understand the federal regulations or geocaching for that matter. You would think a letter from that high up would get at least the name of the act right!!!!
  2. We plan on including a little caching in our Turkeyday events. Its my home town and we have not cached there yet! It will do us good to walk off the huge meal my mom will probably make!!
  3. Hey there Dirtrunner, had that very same idea after visiting a racing cache recently. Thinking of opening up my own "car lot". Its a great cache idea. Hope to get it out there soon!!
  4. I know that when we set up a cache, I am not going to start out by putting junk in it. We go out and buy items relating to our theme. I think that as time goes on though, when we revisit our cache we will likely have to change out some of the stuff in there if it gets junked up. I realize that for most it is all about the hunt, but it would be nice if the contents were not out of the trash can. We keep a bag of some very small stuff we've picked up at the store. The buck or two here and there isn't too bad and I guess I've felt it would be disrespectful to leave something junky in the cache when we find it. But then again, one person's junk is anothers treasure. We found a little pirate in a cache this weekend that looks just like our avatar, but to anyone else I am sure it would be junk. Lucky for us, we live in an area that has well maintained caches. We do find some bad stuff, but the majority is usually something cool......
  5. When we take pictures, I always get away from the cache a bit, make sure I dont point in that direction, and try to focus on the general beauty of the area. I've seen some with actual arrows drawn in. Yuck!!
  6. I'd like to place a puzzle cache, but I dont want to make it too complicated. I've also seen a few island caches around that do get get visited often.
  7. Well, my experience this weekend was my fault alone. I got way too wrapped up in where it "had to be located" instead of concentrating on where it really was. I did have my frustration level go up a bit, but thankfully, my fiancee got us back on track and we ended up with three finds for the day!!
  8. Oh, sorry, thought since it was chit chat it needed to be here. I am a little confused with a General and a General Discussion forum being available. v/r
  9. I had an interesting experience on a cache hunt this weekend. We went to a cache location which was next to a river. Its hard to explain the complete details of the location, but there is a path below (on the water's edge) and a field above and between there is a somewhat steep slope. The slope is covered in vines with trees scattered here and there. We went around and around all of the holes (and there were a lot of them), climbing up the hill and looking in places that might hide a cache, and by the end, even looking in ones that couldn't have. Overall we spent almost an hour hunting in vein. We were doing several caches yesterday and I had sort of combined descriptions and hints of two into one in my head. After a while, we figured out what we had done and that there was a more likely location for the cache. I guess the moral of the story is...... if it is that hard to find, maybe that cache is hidden somewhere else!! Anyone else have some good stories along these lines?
  10. You know, I never even thought of the problem the graveyard has of adding miles to a TB which it didn't travel. Hmm, there really needs to be a fix of some sort!
  11. There are always the state Geocaching Associations & Societies which are always good places to start! You can usually find that info there.
  12. We found Geocaching to be an "us" activity and we both view it as a great activity that gets us out of the house and keeps us from being total couch potatos! I definitely think it is something we'll keep doing..... always great fun!!
  13. The gallery is great, but for some reason ours stopped updating?
  14. I guess once we can kick them to limbo the problem will be fixed. But what happens in limbo? Will that be like the TB graveyards that I've seen? Those seem to be very popular for depositing bugs who were lost in their travels!
  15. Yeah, but are they a couple bucks more? Looks like its about 6 something for one.
  16. That's an awsome idea, it would be nice to be able to retire the TB with some type of archive that still remains after the TB is done. I hope we're able to get some of ours back down the road!
  17. The map for one of our TBs (Sea Dog) has multiple tags for cache finds. Reading the logs it seems that everything was done properly. It also looks that the distances are correct..... wonder what gives??
  18. I think the owner should be allowed to see, but not change the watch list. I know that we have put several on watch when we anticipate visiting them in the near future. It keeps us (me actually) from losing track. The SoMDCacherz
  19. Oh, see I have thought that since the web site is a must to log the travel bug properly then we were ok with just putting the information there! Maybe I'll try to make up tags for our next ones. Especially since we hope to place them when overseas in Ireland. The SoMDCacherz
  20. I have seen a lot of TBs lately that have descriptions attached. Usually in the form of a laminated card, etc. Is that really important, we have not really done that with any TBs yet, but we could always start! The SoMDCacherz
  21. I have three TBs out there and for some reason my TB pages seem to be missing the "TB Travels Map". I've looked again for an option to click, but it doesnt seem that I have missed anything..... any ideas anyone?? Thanks The SoMDCacherz
