  1. Here is a good spin on geocaching. Just after grabbing a cache in the forest behind our local Community College, we decided to follow the newly created path around the campus. As we rounded the corner and climbed the hill, we found a log, smouldering. At first we thought it was negligence, but it seems to been possibly spontainious combustion. We dumped our water on, but as the breeze picked up, so did the glow on the log. Sad part was, when I called public safety for the college they told me everyone "was busy dealing with a traffic situation" I'm sorry, but if you don't make this a priority for someone to come out with a 5 gal bucket or something, then im calling the fire department. Ten minutes later, 2 public safety workers found us. I can't imagine the devastation of the 43 acres behind the school, let alone the school and nearing neighborhoods. . .
  2. I think it would have potential, but only if they had a variety of people, from all around the US (or NAmerica, or the world) showing their beautiful areas. He keeps saying how beautiful it is etc. IMO it is nothing compared to what we see here in Oregon!
  3. Oh no! The spamming sock puppets are back! Run! Hide! It's interesting, while realistic, seems a little scripted.
  4. A 5 gallon bucket filled with human waste. Dubbed "the sh** bucket"
  5. Anything that cranks. I never have to carry extra batteries, I know it will work. I have a 3 - 5 LED crank flashlight, and I only paid like $8
  6. I'm confused I didn't see any entries in your caches and these are the only ones down. They are not currently down, because I go within a day or so of DNF log and replace them.
  7. I made a cache inside a sprinkler head, and thought it was a clever idea, but then people started posting here that I was encouraging unnecessary digging around and disrupting the area. I guess I saw the point, I knew it was hidden there, but who would say nobody is going to pull up a real sprinkler? (i still kept it there, people like it)
  8. I am still fresh to geocaching (5mos), but I feel like I have hidden some pretty neat caches. Problem is, 2 of my most popular caches are continuously muggled. I guess what I don't understand is why someone would remove the cache? One of my stolen caches was just a little ziplok bag with camo tape over it, a log book, and the little paper I put in explaining what geocaching is. How exciting is that to steal? Anyone have pointers to muggle proof?
  9. I want to show a couple pictures in my listing of the view from my cache. I see where you can change background images, but how can I list it in my long description? TIA
  10. Mine is on a hill under a shrub, set tight enough in with surrounding dirt and bark to firmly set it into place, unless you pull on it, but it is packed tight enough to hold it while you turn it to unscrew. No pointey tools used here
  11. Thank you for your replies, I learned something new. I am glad to learn about the trick with not making it active, I have wanted to be able to spend more time on my pages, but always wait until im ready to publish. I will try these ideas.
  12. I have a self proclaimed evil cache that is located in a sprinkler head, hidden in a community garden. GC1DAQA Here is my problem however. I have in my long description instructions to "twist, not pull" and the way it is placed, you should be able to unscrew the cap without pulling out the entire assembly. Unfortunately, im getting more and more logs saying "easy find, it was laying on the ground". Ugh, it's not too far from my house, it isn't terribly inconvenient to rehide this, but I don't want it to be an easy find because it is just laying out. I have seen in other discussions that people who are using pocket queries etc don't necessarily read the descriptions, they just go to the location. So how can I communicate the importance of maintaining the integrity of the cache by twist not pull?
  13. Not me. I'm not one of those rich dudes. Of course, it would have to be hidden (not buried) to be legal. Not supposed to leave money in caches either.
  14. Two thugs heck, is it an active quarry? What about blasts?

  16. I am interested in placing a cache 2 miles into a hike near a beautiful waterfall. I searched the area and listed one cache about 4 miles in, so I felt safe in placing it where I considered. Problem is, im not a premium member, and there is a member's only cache somewhere along that hike, but I have no idea if it is too close to the cache I wanted to place unless I am a premium member. GCH13E Are you still held to the saturation rule for premium only caches, or with a multi cache with multiple waypoints? Thanks for any help.
  17. I had not thought about this until now, but I do know the feeling sometimes of getting a log posted on one of your caches. Especially the micro I recently spent a lot of time and brain energy on. I thought for sure even experienced cachers would have a little difficulty finding it right away (it was a rain bird sprinkler that is placed in the ground and they are to unscrew the top to locate the micro log) and I hid it in a community garden under a bush in a group of other similar looking sprinklers. Some logs just say "TFTC", then others make me feel a little better about my efforts placed. Like this one great hide!! walked past it 3-4 times before we figured it out. didn't sign the log as we forgot a writing stick TFTH
  18. I have seen several with time restrictions. One example was a multi with the final cache location being the public library. Another couple hidden at our Community College are not accessible on Sundays (by car). Then there are those that I self restrict to hours. Somehow a few in our area are placed on or near school playgrounds (yes, have sent them in to moderator) so I only hunt those on evenings weekends, during the summer. . .
  19. As we have all seen on the disks, it says $250 fine for tampering witht he mark. So I have wondered, obviously $250 isn't much to us today, so what was it to them in say 1912? (bare with me, not the best mathmatician), although I did find a conversion. 4 cents on the dollar in 1912, so that would roughly be $1,500 to us today.
  20. I am very protective of my caches and keep close eye on them. I read logs daily sent to my Email about who found or didn't find one of my caches. If they need maintenance, I usually make it there within 24 hours of finding out. I also randomly check on each cache throughout the month, make sure they are muggle free, dry, have logs etc.
  21. It was under the thread cool cache containers. Genius if you ask me, but people were concerned about having to tussle up the area too much.
  22. How completely random that we posted two benchmarks within miles of each other. Plus, I have to admit, I am the cache hider of the Crown Jewel cache that people complained that my cache was harder to find than the benchmark
