  1. So many people "Cheat" on webcams these days (taking a selfie at GZ instead of a true webcam shot) and very few owners of them actually monitor them (or are even logging into the site anymore)...seems like they don't really count for anything special anymore because of the cheating. Of course, if someone were to put a NM/NA on a inoperable webcam, all heck would break loose from the community. The next one that I find nearby that has not worked for a long time I think I will email to a reviewer instead of posting on the actual page.
  2. In my opinion, a CO that puts that on their page might as well also put a multiple choice selection of 4 different logs that they want to see on their cache...in fact, maybe the finder should just email the CO that they found their cache, that way the CO can write up a log for the finder to paste into the cache page...
  3. Nope, where does it occur on the page? Is it in a note someone put in the log? Maybe post a screenshot?
  4. In My Humble Opinion, I wouldn't do this unless you can deal with a wide variety of responses....some will be thoughtful, some will be hostile, most will not reply (and if you can't handle a "TFTC", then you will likely not be able to handle a hostile reply)... If they are local cachers, try to meet up with them at an event. Get to know them a bit, then maybe invite them to go out caching. Show them (mentor) how you cache and log, but don't force your ideals upon them...give reasoning for why and what you do. Just letting them see how others approach the game might broaden their understanding and allow them to mold their approach.
  5. Do phones have dual receivers with GLONASS gps support? My GPS does, it works very good even indoors or when much of the sky/horizon is not visible. It is very accurate nearly all the time.
  6. Nope, was a while ago...there is a forum there, they will be able to answer all your questions much clearer and quicker. I believe the upgrade is on a sliding scale depending on when you originally bought it.
  7. This worked for my DNF: <div class='stat' style='position:relative; top:-244px; left:460px; height:0px;'> Not the whole html coding, I just played with the number, so you should be able to put these into the old scripting and get similar results.
  8. Who said all members don't like it?? They just made some layout/design changes...I don't see anything missing (not including the search functions, just the overall website). It runs much better on my tablet now by the way.
  9. If you have paid in the past it might be possible to get a cheaper upgrade (I was able to)...There should be a record of your original purchase somewhere. It might be stored via your username, I would check the GSAK website.
  10. Mine are still under "Lists"...Did yours all disappear?
  11. Yep, I had to make some adjustments to my profile page to properly align my DNF count.
  12. Imagine that.. And they were full of cool things. I do not ever even remember finding anything but ammo cans or the like. They were indeed mostly large containers. It seemed odd when I returned to caching after a few years break and it seemed like all there is anymore is micros. I'm coming to appreciate them too now. I'll add that back in the day I would often leave stuff and usually sign the paper log in the cache, but I didn't take anything. I've always been a fan of the pay it forward concept and so to me I enjoyed finding a cache, leaving stuff and taking nothing. My first cache (and many of my early finds were) was a micro in 2001...There were plenty of micros around then, it just depended on where you started. If you lived in the city, there was still the difficulty of hiding something large without it being compromised. There were more regular and large sizes in general, because there is a lot of open space outside the cities. There was also more of an emphasis on the swag/contents of caches, which required larger containers. My biggest complaint is the number of small and micro placements in the countryside (in the city many of them are justified). I bought a GPS II back in 1997 and was using it at work (in the woods), brought it with me while I was up on the Iditarod trail in 1998...It was nice to have a hobby connected with the technology when Geocaching came along. I remember watching the sat signal screen on my gps the moment the signals were de-scrambled...pretty cool moment.
  13. I doubt you could filter for it...Would be quite the challenge to build/maintain a list (no doubt)...I just replaced one of my 2003 logbooks last year. The other one is still fine after 12+ years.
  14. If you are going to have a time capsule in place for a long time, I suggest encasing a container in concrete.
  15. +1 to this...In my area I use this method for stealth a lot. Always carrying trash bags...on a side note, I always seem to find money (bills) while doing CITO and searching for a cache.
  16. Back in the beginning things were much more simple on the site and in the field...no smart phones and cellular data networks, maps were basic, and I used paper for everything. I had a three ring binder where I kept a log of all finds (I made custom log forms in excel). I did this for my first 300 finds. The binder also kept certain cache page printouts, game pieces from unique multi-caches, etc. I still have it and use it for lists of needed caches and certain caches that are on my dream list. I will also put in Puzzles that I am currently working on so I can try solving when I am relaxing somewhere (many puzzles out there do not need you to sit behind a computer all day, contrary to what some would have you believe).
  17. IMHO you are throwing around very relative and subjective terms...I have been using portable GPS units since 1997, long before I started geocaching in 2001...I might consider you a "newbie"... Who is "us" as you say?
  18. Nope, I liken them to that old dude that sits on the porch at the corner house...always yelling at the kids to "stay off my lawn"...he mumbles to himself a lot: "change is always bad", "need to stay with my aol dial up email forever", "I remember when burgers only cost a quarter!"...
  19. Have cached in both types (and many more, including native land, wilderness, every level of gov park)...usually the caching is just a side purpose, with the park visit being the main goal.
  20. If one were to get so caught up in find numbers and trying to stay in the top area of the list...one might be more tempted to do things like "throwdowns" and "inactive cacher container replacement" in your efforts to stay or remain at the top. Wouldn't be fun for me, in my opinion...
  21. Doing a PI day event, and then right after doing a CITO...adding 8 more caches to make it a 10 different icon day. Spending this PI day with nephews and my sister while caching should be fun.
  22. Someone with about 112,000 (most likely)...
  23. So...you can't have a buried cache even if on/in your own property?
