    Useless Hints

"If you need a hint you aren't there"
  2. We have a three stage multi -- first stage is a micro, second and third are ammo cans with swag and logs. We just thought this made it more fun.

  5. Be very careful! A friend is a vendor for Scrapbooking supplies. She bought some products from her vendors that Hershey felt was an infringement. Even though she was only the 'middle man' so to speak, Hershey threatened her with all kinds of legal action and huge fines. She ended up paying Hershey a considerable amount of money to settle the deal. Apparently companies employ people to search the internet for possible infringements.
  6. Find the cooperate email address, or better yet, phone number. I bet if you email or call, you will get a positive response.
  7. I have appreciated when I found a pack of tissues! Can be quite useful when you nose is running on a chilly day. Generally we too leave items that the little cachers would enjoy finding. And sometimes we trade something out and then leave that item at the next cache.
  8. I leave the DNF and fess up to the number of times I went back and didn't post a DNF! And I fess up if someone helped or if maybe a clue just suddenly made sense. Or I fess up if I was just a dummy! I agree with a previous poster -- this all adds to the cache history and makes for a fun read.
  9. We always try to clear a cache of expired coupons, corroded batteries -- I know a lot of people like to leave them, but they don't seem to store well, little slips of cellophane, etc. We always seem to have stuff suitable for children in our geopack and usually end up leaving multiple items, often taking nothing. It is up to us to police ourselves.
  10. We found one that was a waterproof container inside of a wire box that was anchored to the bottom of a shallow pond. There was a bouy to mark the spot. The clues were really cute questions that made perfect sense once you finally admitted to yourself that the cache was in the pond. There was a paddle boat on shore if you didn't want to wade out. The cache itself worked great, but there were continuing problems with the paddle boat not being left where it was supposed to be. You could have easily waded out, but the water was pretty 'icky'.
  11. I can't tell you how many batteries I have removed from caches because they have become wet and started to corrode. Even in the original packaging, I wouldn't leave them is there is the slightest chance of moisture in the cache.
  12. You fall flat on your back, on a pointy rock while crossing over a log to get a cache -- sure you have broken ribs do you go to the ER??? NO -- on to the next cache! (Turned out it wasn't broken ribs, but it sure hurt!)
  13. I wish they would remove the 'discover' option. After events you can get multiple postings of 'discoveries'. And if you see my bug in a cache and can't move it on -- why get credit for it. Just really annoys me.
  14. I am sure Ed Scott will post here soon -- he "don't need no GPS". I think that is his quote! LOL He is my hero! How he can find them is beyond me, but he sure is good.
  15. I started with a Trex and I am still using it. Simple to operate, which is what I need. Hubby has one of those fancy Garmins with all the bells and whistles, doesn't use all the features, but he likes it. Maybe try to go to an 'event' where you can see various brands in action? JegMag
  16. Welcome to the madness! I never had a tick on me until I started caching! Ick!!!! It is a good idea to check all your skin surfaces, they seem to easily crawl under clothing. It is still a great activity! JegMag
  17. My Trex is Yellow, the 'new' Garman is Cadillac Jack. The car Gps -- one is Sweetie -- Sweetie travels with SW (short for SirWilson, the Wranger) , the other Toots -- she is installed in Mr. Hemi -- the big Jeep. Hey, we are harmless

  19. I would be happy to have a broken container replaced -- especially if it is a cache that is hard to get to. I too carry some 'repair parts' -- especially paper towels. Got tired of using my shirt to dry out caches!
  20. We have sort of a reputation for having caches near PI. We don't intend to do it, as we both can have severe reactions, but it happens. We just call it our Township plant and place warnings in the cache description. That is about all you can do. We have one cache placement that is different everytime we go due to different weeds growing (however, no PI there, how about that?).
  21. We were doing a river cache by kayak. The cache was a micro -- a fish on a fishing line tied to a tree. On the way to the cache, I had picked up a bobber that was on the island. When we realized that the pen was in the Jeep, I attached the bobber to the fishing line holding the cache up. Put that in my log. (The owner later signed in for us when on a maintenance visit.)
  22. I like it too. We found the cache at the site over the summer, but felt kind of weird taking it off to the side to open and sign the log. I didn't feel that it was proper to have an active cache right there by the memory wall. Just felt like those things were to be looked at and thought about, but not disturbed.
  23. For what it's worth, I don't like the "Discovered" option at all. Some of my bugs are "Discovered" in caches, but not moved on.
  24. After three trips to find a cache and several DNF by other cachers (we could tell by the debris we were all searching in the same spot), finally found the Cache, way off from the original coordinates. Posted our coor. Cache started being found. Owner got mad, sent a nasty email saying with our coor people could walk up to the cache. DUH! Deleted our logs. Then a couple of days later they post -- apparently there are two sets of coors for this cache and added ours. After a while, their original coor disappeared and ours appeared. Hmmmmm Sometimes everyone makes an error, transposes a number (or doesn't know how to use a GPS). I never mind a correction on my caches, and sometimes those coor posted by finders make a big difference!
  25. I only mind the people who come into an area, grab all the FTFs but don't do any other caches in the immediate area. They are annoying!
