  1. Since the dev team are watching this forum. +1 from me for putting back the finds as they were - I'm not really bothered about my friends hides, just a heads up of where they are, so I can send congrats on the milestones.
  2. I cannot answer this question as it's not about smilies (total found count or whatever) for me. What I like is learn to know interesting places that have not been known to me before. The key question is thus how this can be achieved. I find convenient to be able to find interesting places by using just one site and not multiple ones. This does not mean that the same sort of credit (smilie in the case of your example) needs (should) to be offered for different categories offered on the same site. Moreover, the key question for me is rather why it is suggested that often to hide a cache container at a location which is interesting to visit, but which is not suited/attractive for a cache search. Many of the nano caches I have found are the result of the need to hide a container at a place with no real options. Cezanne So let me get this straight, you're really after a guide book then. If searching/finding caches is not for you, why are you geocaching in the first place?
  3. Is that not the same as going and checking out the info boards for the necessary clues and information for a puzzle nano?
  4. An attribute to indicate "this cache is next to a children's play area - gentleman cachers beware" would definitely save frustration or at the very least give an indication when to visit ie. early before the kids arrive or late after they've gone home.
  5. Not sure about the Americas but over this side of the pond, virtually ever third or 4th cache has some time of historical significance attached to it and most can hide a nano if nothing else. The obvious exceptions are scheduled monument sites but why not a "puzzle" cache to collect any info? Then again I've seen the "puzzle" caches in cities which are in essence a "virtual". Do we really need another cache type?

    HTML logs

For what I need, the code tags will suffice

    HTML logs

Is it possible to include some HTML fragments in a log? I've seen colour added before via a font tag, but I'm looking to add some tabular data ? I could just email the owner, but I think it's of interest to other finders. Many thanks in advance.
  8. Hmmm ... if The BeeKeeper's going to be there, it'd be an opportunity to bend his ear about recent cache publications/rejections (delete as appropriate)
  9. Ta muchly have an email lodged with the local district highways officer to determine who I should ask.
  10. A public right of way gives you the right to "pass and repass", and nothing else. It does not give you the right to hide a cache or enjoy any other recreational activity, whether it's in a cemetery or not, and the vast majority of PRoW's in England and Wales pass across private land where you would (in theory) need the permission of the landowner to hide a cache anyway. Do not confuse a right of way with public property - or even public access land. They aren't the same thing at all. I wonder how many caches placed on PRoWs actually have permission? 1%? more? less?
  11. Where do we stand, caching permissions wise, if a public right of way exists through a municipal cemetery, or rather in this case where a municipal cemetery has expanded and crossed a public right of way? Do churchyard rules still apply? Or are we on a PROW and the age old argument on seeking permissions from the crown?
  12. Satmap Active 10 on the Li battery pack - separate cycle mount available
  13. On the whole I tend to agree, except when the first mob is time restricted eg a flash mob. Hopefully the reviewers will continue to adopt the common sense approach.

    Bookmarks

With the increase of PQs to 1000 caches, has the bookmark limit also been increased? Is this something that could be considered if not already done so. Cheers
  15. I seemed to have hidden a nemesis for several folk GC1J37D which now has more DNFs than Founds. I'm puzzled that it continues to befuddle cachers (even the most of experienced of them). I'm beginning to wonder whether it is occasionally out of temporal synch with our reality.
  16. Check the price of the maps and availability for each product. That could well be the deciding factor in what unit you buy. I second the Satmap comment although my current active 10 has a minor niggle which I'm confident Satmap are resolving as we speak. Regarding maps: I have a 1:50K for the whole of GB and a 1:25K for Essex which is my current home turf. Now if only the Satmap could do Wherigo caches then it would be perfect.
  17. As per K9 Crew - although it does work on software v1.40.xxx which is what I'm using. [Note to self upgrade soon] Satmap is getting certainly more geocache friendly than it used to be, of course it helps that one of the key software developers is a cacher. I used to use my own software to process the GPX data before importing - now I just used Satsync as provided. I made a comment in a recent letter about Wherigo caches when putting my Satmap in for a service and received a phone asking what Wherigo involved. Hopefully this has been added to the satmap development wishlist.
  18. Yay me! 500th Church Micro Find last night at Bocking.
  19. Most odd - I have no trouble with mine, but then I do use my Satmap as my in car navigation tool as well. Since the v1.4 software install, the battery life seems to be much longer and the hibernate settings seem to improve start up time too. The POI locking problem is greatly diminished and there are now bespoke GC icons. About the only thing I've found the Satmap can't do yet is Wherigo caching. On the plus side you get a big screen OS map to revel in and with a bit of nouce given a GPS signal failure, you can still navigate yourself to the rough cache location, certainly close enough to start searching with the clue.
  20. I have a Garmin BigBen coin which was pre-activated by one of their staff as a test. I tried to get it transferred but said staff had left. Always wondered if I could ever get it transferred over to me.
  21. Yay they're here - now I've just got to wait for them to cross the Atlantic! Well worth the wait as I've been after one having missed the first issue.
  22. I think "Needs reviewer attention" nicely covers things. It allows the reviewer to seek further clarification and act accordingly. It's less confrontational than the current NA and could also serve as an escalation of the Needs Maintenance.
  23. Excuse me whilst I have a little rant. This lunchtime's cache involved walking along a bridleway so no complaints about the droppings left behind, I can walk around those. Why oh why oh why oh why do riders, when faced with a large shallow muddy puddle on the path, *insist* on riding their horses round the puddle and thus churn up the ground for the pedestrian users? Are horse aquaphobic or something? Do they shrink if they get wet? (That could explain Shetland ponies) Why? Why? Why?
