  1. Did I miss something here? Does Utopia display the caches offline as Watcher does or do you have to be online to view the cache pages? Darwinkle
  2. I know this probably should be in the Garage Sale forum but this looks like a captive audience so please forgive this post. This is to any of you who are using ANYTHING from or about the Gotcha cache as a basis or topic of your discussion/argument. I have an excellent investment opportunity for you! I have some excellent condo units for sale in west Phoenix, Arizona. Each is prime ocean front property and comes with its own ocean view and white sand beach. They also have their very own outdoor ice rink in the back yard. Now how much would you pay, but wait! There's more.......<<<<slap>>>> I'm going to Minnesota now to do some caching in the woods and I need some extra travel money so I'm offering these at a discount, first come first served. Cash or money orders only please. Have a trade up day! Darwinkle
  3. Actually, that's not a bad idea except for one small detail. Our Federal Government CAN NOT be sued unless they want to be. Ah, 'tis good to be king! Darwinkle
  4. Come on people! We all know that Geocachers ALWAYS put ONLY factual information in their logs! That is the truth! TRUST ME! I even heard somewhere that the FBI, through a deep cover operative, got a guy on the "Ten Most Wanted List" interested in Geocaching. The FBI then planted a cache and told the bad guy about it through an anonymous post. When the bad guy went to find the cache the FBI had the military launch a cruise missle to the site and they blew the guy up just after he had entered a FTF entry in the log. I will not give up my right to carry a LAWs rocket in my shorts while Geocaching, no matter what people think. Getting back to the original post, if the above Geocacher was REALLY a good Geocacher, he would post the numbers where these girls work so we could go by every day and check on them too! It's the least one could do to further the sport. Have a nice day!
  5. Are there any guidelines on the terrain ratings for caches? I'm putting together my first hide and want to get it right! I am a bit concerned at the standardization of the rating. For example, I was on a cache with a 1.5 terrain rating and it was a nice, level area and would have been handicapped accessible. On the other hand, I found a cache with a 1 terrain rating which would have been right on the money with the 1 rating IF YOU WERE A BIGHORN SHEEP! Any thoughts? 6. I'm interested. How do we go about doing this deal? Darwin Darwinkle@Darwinkle.com quote:Originally posted by DeerChaser & Poni:Unit is about 6 months old, not one scratch. Then at least you know you are not introducing something dangerous into the environment. Its the only way to be sure... The above was a JOKE and if you take it seriously and hurt yourself, I don't wanna hear about it! Free your mind and the rest will follow http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/30296_400.gif This is NOT a good way to dispose of pills! Speaking from experience here, I tried this method in the late 70's and I thought I was the son of Batman and Mary Poppins for almost a year! Very bad, very, very bad!

Ahh, but you see, you haven't done my cache TAKE OFF... so you wouldn't know that it would better for you to paraglide yourself away from the keys for a well deserved vacation, than to continue flying the same old dreary kite in here. You, Jomarac5, suggesting that _I_ be banned? For a guy from _a theater near you_, you sure do take this a bit too seriously. Have the admin check my post then... I never typed what you presume. As for the salt and pepper analogy... I like curry, but that doesn't mean my favorite restaurant should serve it. They aren't, after all, a fine Indian diner. They have developed their menu with much thought, and their own identity as well, which needs to be preserved. I don't know what all the fuss is about here. You didn't end your post with "and die!" Looks ok to me!
  10. quote:Originally posted by southdeltan:Here are some links, some may be useful: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=15 Seems Dave moved all of his coordinates when he "quit" but I beleive this is the correct cache (ID is 15, I think that's as far back as has a page - not that is matters because I think the order of the caches got all scrambled up during a site transfer at one point) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=29aa860e-48f1-47ec-9efe-6af679f8ff61 I agree that this may be a little early, it's not like a 3 year old 'hobby/sport/game' has a need for a shrine like Cooperstown - but I don't see how this can hurt. If you're going to put a plaque there with the owners permission - why not permanantly afix an ammo box to the post holding up the plaque with a logbook? Just an idea, might not be feasable. southdeltan "Man can counterfeit everything except silence". - William Faulkner Now you have given me a strange desire to go to Wyoming to look for ammo cans with goodies in them. I can't sleep, I make ammo cans out of my mashed potatoes at dinner and then try to track them. I have tried to make travel bugs out of my roaches. WHAT EVER SHALL I DO?
  11. quote:Originally posted by TeamX40:I emailed Judy&Dick about a similar problem I was having. Basically any time I got within .10 miles of a mark the directional arrow would seem to lose it's sense of direction or disappear completely. It took recalibrating the compass to correct it. However that did not work for them. Perhaps they are near uranium deposits or secret underground government research labs with gps blocking fields. (it's usually one of those problems when I can't find a cache. ) I'd be curious to know if they can get a decent directional lock from a distance that is 'lost' when getting near the waypoint and how good of a SAT-LOCK the GPS has when the arrow won't correct itself. Stop geocaching on the missle silos!

  13. Uh, YA, What he said! ;-) quote:Originally posted by Kordite:> Brian, since GPS uses triangulation between satelites is the speed accurate when going downhill? Actually, they use trilateration which is just like triangulation except with spheres instead of circles. Working in three dimensions doesn't care whether it's horizontal or vertical movement for the calculation of speed or distance. It's one point in 3D space to another point in 3D space. It should be as accurate for the vertical movent component as for the horizontal. http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/89355_500.gif
