  1. The papers are optional but have been know to explain caches well.
  2. That's right. No misrepresentation of other people's comments. On a more serious note: This could just as easily go the other way. If a troll created a topic he/she could delete any conflicting posts.
  3. I have 3 adopted caches. When the owner passed away, archiving didn't seem like the best option, although some people did just that. Anyway, I would have kept those caches regardless because I thought they were already in the best place possible, and I am proud to take care of a cache still with the original log from 2001. However, lately there has been a ton of archival locally. Caches that were at the bottom of the second page of nearest caches are now in the middle of the first. Some people are interested in adopting all of those caches. I really don't think that's a good time for adoption, because every local found those caches years ago, and newcomers wouldn't mind a freshly placed cache. A few can be saved for 'historical purposes', but new caches are nice too.
  4. If you're looking for people to come back seasonally, you could encourage them to post the pictures as notes. Some locals might really have fun with that, especially since the webcam seems to be on your house.
  5. This is a combo-lock cache listed as a puzzle. The lock rusted off though as logs have been noting for about a year. If it had happened to rust on that would have been very inconvenient, especially if there was a TB in there...
  6. Duh! Didn't have the cookies on. Should have just asked the family for help.
  7. Usually I have it saved to I am automatically logged in, but right now I can't log in at all. I type my username and password which are both accurate and correctly spelled, and I either end up back at the main page or with the fields both empty. Am I forgetting something since I don't log in myself most of the time? Thanks! -Enspyer-
  8. I was waiting for someone to mention that. Some school-age kids are the main cachers (I'm 14). Some of the kids who are 5 or 6 now might want to get an account now for when they're older, as it might be an incentive to keep caching as a teen. They can also set up caches themselves, which is interesting when you don't have any money and can't just go to the store.
  9. If it were my cache, I'd think about how easy it would be for them to try logging it again. If they are locals, then they should fix their log, but if they were traveling through, as many webcam loggers are, then I would let the log stand. I would emphasis again the rules on the page and if anyone complained explain the reason for the exception. Deleting the log with notification would really be the right thing to do though...
  10. It looks like I found 12 caches before placing my first...it's nice to know I'm so average!
  11. Just a thought, but perhaps the target person has more of a motivation to take action. Like, everyone who is doing the keeping away can figure someone else will do it, but the target is in charge of himself and only has himself to count on...it's kind of a logic question. It's a great idea for a game though.
  12. Positives !: 1) Spend more time outdoors 2) Learn more about the town I live in 3) Learn how to use digital camera Negatives !: 1) More time spent at the computer 2) Forgetting the bug spray 3) Getting strange looks from well-meaning strangers
  13. I had a cache in a small, town maintained cemetery get a log by the neighbors across the street. I guess they noticed all the extra traffic. There isn't an online log but they wrote in the logbook that there had been some vandalism issues in the past and they hoped something like that wouldnt happen again. I doubt they'll find another geocaching although I had the gc.com-recommended stashnote, so they probably have the website.
  14. I saw an ad for this show on TV and thought it was the perfect cacher's show- learning history and looking for stuff in the woods! It's on UPN 6 in Syracuse New York.
  15. The legend is SO easy to use! I wish I had it when I discovered geocaching!
  16. We found 3 caches after dinner. There were no muggles around at all!

    Strange

I'm glad to know it wasn't just me- seeing someone call a new event cache 'unapproved cache' seemed a bit strange...as the title of this thread mentioned.
  18. We're going out after dinner for 3 across town, which should be fun. Last year we skipped caching on Christmas but I was sick anyway... I got a Geocaching 2005 calender and a geocaching shirt, and a gift card to Eastern Mountain Sports. Last year I got a ton of travel bug tags and geocoins- I've only used about half of them so far. Oh yeah, I forgot- 2 large packs of AA-Batteries!
  19. The Caching Schnoodle loves caching of any kind and snow caching is no different: Caching in the snow earlier today: Playing with a trade item last year: Last winter at exactly 43*N 76*W (the dog needs a haircut!)
  20. This was taken looking across Green Lake in Green Lake State Park near Syracuse, New York. The lake and the surrounding areas are very beautiful, diverse, and cache-rich.
  21. I think it has the right day and time, but it's worth a try. I'll also put new batteries in. Thanks for the tip.
  22. Ok, sorry, but I've got another GPS issue (same GPS)...now I can't get a Sat lock. It shows that there's no signal coming from any off the satellites. GPS is in Normal mode, I let it look for satellites outside away from buildings, I've set the location manually as being at my driveway. It last got a signal on Monday...what am I missing?
  23. I'm not a local, but I'm just down the Thruway a bit, and I can say that you should definitely plan for and expect snow, possibly in large quantities. There's no absolute guarentee it'll be there, but that's the prime time of year for snowstorms out there.
