  1. At the site, they encourage people to put frogs in geocaches. Does that make the caches containing the frogs commercial?
  2. You expect a little puppy to take such a lonnnnng walk?! You'll be lucky to get .1 miles!
  3. I travelled about 4 miles from my last location. I don't think that's the issue, but I'll check it out. Edit: typo
  4. I've been finding and hiding caches for a few months with my GPSr. Lately (for the past few weeks) it can not acquire its location. I have let it sit outside, in the open, for 20 minutes, and still nothing. I know that cloud cover can be a, but it also doesn't work even when it is very clear. Can GPSrs get ruined from cold temperatures? Last time I had it out and it worked it was VERY cold and it was snowing. Did the snow on the GPSr affect it (I tried to keep it as dry as possible)? Thanks for any information you can provide. BTW, I put new batteries in it just last week, and it shows almost full battery power.
  5. I got some really good replies at this topic just recently. Check it out!
  6. 2.4mi I'm still new and working on the caches around my house. I've barely scratched the surface of the region!
  7. Would people be interested in starting at a physical box that has papers that tell you monuments to visit and gather info, then end up at another physical cache?
  8. I am interested in hiding a multicache. Unfortunately, the closest active multicaches are about 20 miles away. I don't drive (I'm not old enough) and my parents are not interested in driving me that far just yet. I would like to know what some of the good basic things for a multicache are, and I would also like to hear about clever or different approaches to multicaches. Thanks!
  9. I get keychains and stuff that links together. I also have found a potholder which I use to hold pins that I take when there are no keychains. Even though I've only found about 20 caches (not counting virtual/locationless because you dont trade stuff there) my keychain collection is already impressive-looking. Much more impressive than my 'User Stats' page!
  10. Virtuals are fun in another way than traditional ones. They are convienent when there is snow on the ground and many traditional caches are buried or inaccessable. When the virtual takes outside research too, the gratification of finding the answers can be just as great as that of finding the cache for some. My favorite- http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f8-808db5a5bdc1 because some answers came from the place and others took research which was cool because I learned a lot of stuff that didn't even have to do with the cache. I have had one time where there was a place I would want a cache, but a virtual was there...but that's it.
  11. Today we went into a ditch where there was tons of snow and our dog got stuck in the ditch. It turns out that those of us stupid enough to go in the ditch ourselves were stuck too. Finally we kind of threw him up over the ditch. He is just fine and we are just fine and we found the cache!
  12. I quite enjoyed the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. I read parts of the books, especailly Angels and Demons, like a geocacher. The 'Path' in that book was like a multi-virtual (although the cache page was a lot harder to find!) . They kind of reminded me of Harry Potter for adults- very entertaining, widely read, controvercial, and sometimes not the best writing (but for me, it was a welcome change from teen books!).
  13. Being 13, I do not drive, but my parents do and so our family has 2 Subarus. I like them because when my parents drive them, I get to cache!
  14. Just think about explaining your dog's name if it was, say waypoint: Stranger: Aww, she's so cute. What's her name You: Waypoint Stranger: What? You: Waypoint. You know, like on a GPSr when you set a waypoint? Stranger: No... There, you must either explain GPS technology and perhaps geocaching, or leave it awkward like that. I vote that you name her Ivy, after Poison Ivy. Just don't tell people .
  15. I meant to go hide a cache, but that didn't work out so I found one instead. I left a 2004 themed TB! 2004 cache I found it at about 3:00pm EST...1/1/04!
  16. I really like cemetery caches around my house. One is offset and the other ones are far away from graves in the woods, to the point it seems like a normal park. I'm thinking of hiding a cache at a little known, small cemetery, but I'm not sure about land issues just yet.
  17. I am a middle school student and there is a cache right behind my school. No, I didn't hid it- it was hidden by other cachers from inside the school. I have never seen people come look for it during school hours, but according to logs they did. Perhaps I didn't see them because I'm such a good student who would never be looking out the window. Another one nearby is behind my old elementary school. I found that one right after school let out there, and there were lots of kids on the playground. It was hidden WAY up a drumlin behind the school, so no kid was going to find it. No one even looked at us, we found the cache, and headed home. I like cemetery caches better than any other kind though.
  18. My dog found me a cache just today, but that was because there were favorable dog smells there, not because of training. At first we just kept him off the leash, but then one time he ran off, although he came back (when we were looking for him we found a nice easy route to the cache, and later went back and found it). Now he just comes on a leash, which can be a bit of a hassle when we're in lots of brush. And he is always covered in burrs.
  19. I'm 13. There was just recently a topic asking if there were any kids, and there are few replys there.
  20. Geocaching-wise, I got 12 sets of TB tags and 4 geocoins and the DaVinci Code. I also got a cool shirt that says: Einstein's Theory Of Musicians: Fb=E.
  21. I'm 13. On the internet thats considered an adult (in that you can be asked personal information and sign up for stuff without parent permission) but in real life it's a kid.
  22. Has anyone put out or found a cache the beeps or makes noise. I'm interested in placing one with a keychain the beeps when you clap. I have found a beeping keychain, and I have figured a way to attach it to an ammo box securely (using locks). Any info? Thank you.
  23. I don't pack nearly as heavy as most folks here, even for ones that go for a bit of a walk. I bring: GPSr Cache page Stamp Pen Extra Batteries Trade Items/ TBs Cell Phone Camera (sometimes) I cache in a pretty raw way, see the coords on the GPSr, see the cache page, make them match.
