  1. There are a couple of caches I am aware of in Tifton GA near I-75 and a theme park, Wild Adventures, in Valdosta, GA just before you get to FL. There is also the Okefenokee Swamp not too far off course. Have fun
  2. On your way back from GWIII, check out a few along the way before your get to Savannah GCHAGX GCHKMK

    Tivo Sdk?

Keep thinking. Learning is not always a linear process. Just like finding a cache, the direct route may be the shortest, but it is not always the best way to get there.
  4. That is a good deal. I bought my GPS V deluxe package nearly 2 years ago for $320 USD. The GPS V is a good machine.
  5. Thanks Clyde, ver 3.05 is a phantom. I searched and only found one GSAK application. Jeff
  6. I know I could do a restore point and catch this.....however I was cleaning up my machine, and I noticed that there are 2 versions of GSAK in the add/remove programs 3.05 (133mb) and 5.04 build 20(90mb). Can I safely remove the 3.05 and reclaim the space? Thanks Jeff
  7. I guessing that #1 will be the software that has enabled all of this inovative hardware to work together. To be more specific, TCP/IP, SMTP, and other networking protocol stacks. Or maybe it will be the George Forman Grill....
  8. PJ and I go caching together most of the time. PJ reads the details as we get close, and has a good eye for finding caches. It must be the artist in her. This is a great balance to the analytical approach I take.
  9. I upgraded to a Garmin GPS V from LORAN-C. That was a few years ago. Finding my position has never been easier.
  10. I got a bright orange hat so hunters can see me while I am out caching.
  11. We live on the coast, so our radius is only 1/2 of a circle. 1 mile no caches 5 miles 16 caches - found them all + 3 are mine 10 miles 28 caches - found them all @ 11 miles the is one cache that has never been found by anyone GCA8C8 50 miles 150 caches - found 89 of them - in 2 different states 100 miles 844 caches - found 122 of them - in 3 different states
  12. I have a Dell Laptop running XP Home and GSAK and download to/from my Garmin GPS V all the time. The USB ports on the back are COM6 and COM7 on my machine. I use a USB to serial converter and plug it in after starting the machine and GSAK. Works every time.
  13. This has been an enjoyable post to read..Thanks..brought back lots of great memories. Many of the things that were true for me 40 years ago when I was 10 are true today. I still drink water out of the hose, change my clothes when I get home, ride my bike with friends on adventures, say the pledge of Allegiance and mean it. Just remember, Today is the good old day of tomorrow, so go out today and make some memories for tomorrow. Go Geocaching.
  14. I guess I use my GPS for the usual things....but the other day I was stopped by a LEO at a sobriety checkpoint. He thought my GPS was a radar detector. When I told him that the GPS told me where to go, PJ chimed in and said "hey I thought was my job!" We all had a good laugh.
  15. That sounds more like a Locationless. Seek Locationless
  16. Thanks for all the help. I just missed the delete waypoints in filter only. Must have tried it before setting the filter, but not after. As for finding a cache twice, I went searching for a cache I had already logged, because my paper record keeping was kind of slack. OK it was a mess. GSAK will keep me from doing that again. Thanks again. Happy Holidays to all. Jeff
  17. Clyde First, thanks for a very useful program. GSAK has really helped me clean up my Geocaching act. Gone are the notebooks full of printed pages, and the time spent placing the pages in route order. There are a few things I have not been able to figure out on my own. These are not GSAK faults, but fall into the "nut behind the keybord"(me) status. 1. Mass delete of waypoints. My database has grown and I want to trim it down. How do I select a group of waypoints to delete? I can build a filter and set a flag on the ones I want to delete, but I cannot find a way to delete more than one waypoint at a time. 2. Found caches. After finding a cache twice, I have run a "found by me" pocket query, and entered the found caches from my logs. I am still missing one that I will find. In GSAK, the yellow count box shows xxx, If I dbl click or select the default filter "My found caches", xxx -3 are shown. What could be causing the difference? Jeff
  18. ClydeE Thanks for the quick response to my export to Mapsource question. I switched to %smart and that fixed it. I like the mapping links inside of GSAK, and use them often at home. I am going to use Mapsource while I am on the road away from the Internet and any "hot spots" I may come across. This also allows me to download detailed maps, since my GPS V only holds 19+mb and will not hold my entire trip. The way ExpertGPS "stiches" the maps together and saves them offline combined with the filtering, offline powers and Geocaching specifics of GSAK would be an awesome combination. Thanks for a great program and excellent support!
  19. I have enjoyed learning how to use GSAK v 4.2.1 build 18. It is a powerful tool. I am planning to use it on our next vacation trip. I have developed routes in Mapsource 6.3 (arcs) for our trip and can get a filtered list along the lines. Great, no more paper. From GPX pocket queries I made 6 individual state databases. To make things easier I made a single database of 6 states with 3800 records. I then d/l the filtered points (all 121 of them from 4 states) to my GPS V. I wanted to export this same list to to a Mapsource MPS files so we could look at the location on the "big screen". GSAK creates a mps file but I get a not a valid mapsource file and cannot be opened error message when I try to import this file. I can create LOC and GPX export files that can be opened in ExpertGPS. But even a mps file created in ExpertGPS via the GSAK file returns the same error. I use the same symbols as I download, have %code in waypoint name, 10 max characters and %name in cache description after the defaults did not work. The funny thing is if I only use the database for one state, the mps file export works. So I could run the same filter through all 6 states. I could also work around this by uploading the filtered files from the GPS V back to mapsource. Any ideas?
  20. I have started using my GPS to determine distance, bearing and elevation in setting up wireless networking sites thousands of feet apart. This helps get the high gain directional antennas pointed at each other.
  21. I have had a GPS V for a few years and I now use it Geocaching, as well as for traveling, both in the Jeep and on my motorcycle. Route and waypoint capacity have not been a problem, and with a little work the maps have not been either. The longer battery life, color screen, and additional memory in the 60C/CS are all good selling points, but I cant see how that will help find caches.
  22. Just registered. Thanks for a great program. I will work with it some more before I have questions. JT & PJ Cole Jeff N4XGI
  23. It all started when we sold our sailboat a few years ago. One of the things I enjoyed most about boating was plotting a course to an unseen destination. No roads, no signs, just a compass and chart, then later Loran C, and then a GPS. Later, we started looking for benchmarks, still plotting our course on a map. We found most of them around here but we were missing the precision required. Then I got a Garmin GPS V. On the Garmin web site, there was a link to the geocaching.com site. On a whim, I went looking for a cache one day after work. After I found it, the rest they say "is history". BTW, it is much harder to find a micro cache, than finding that safe harbor 100 miles up the coast.
  24. It is easy to see from the replies that many folks enjoy caching in different ways and for different reasons. I marked my one year anniversary at work, but I did renew my premium membership when I got home.
