  1. My suggestion is to change this line to: "If you feel inclined to do so, thank him and the many others who have and are currently serving in our United States armed forces." Just a thought. PS. You could always remove it, submit it, get it published and then re-add it to the published cache page. JK! (I don't advise doing this though)
  2. Mrs. Anderson, I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your husband. I think I can speak for most of us when I say that we, the geocaching community, felt a real sense of loss of a friend and family member at his passing while engaging in the sport we all love and enjoy. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this upcoming Christmas season. I'm sure it will be difficult, but you sound as if you have a strong family and know in the Truth of the season. Take heart that we are thinking and praying for you. God Bless, Robert (Harwell5)
  3. First, my thoughts and prayers are with the family. I'm not a moderator, but I would like to also note on the adoption thing. If you are unable to adopt all or any of them, you could put notice out in your caching community (on the cache pages or online forums groups) that those caches are avaliable for adoption by anyone willing to take them. I think keeping them as active would be a great memorial to the original CO who loved the sport. Just a thought. On the closing account issue. I don't know, but I have heard of accounts being blocked from access which may even mean that they could be closed. I'm just speculating though. Please let your friend know that the geocaching community's thoughts and prayers are with him. I'm sure I am not the only one who would agree to this.
  4. Did a search and this was the only thing I found. Is the geocachingadmin.com site not operational now? What did I miss?
  5. I wasn't upgraded, but I had another cacher actually purchase another year's membership (on top of what I had already) for me because he had lost his GPS near one of my caches. He had posted a note on my cache page asking for anyone who might find it to let him know. He was passing though my area and my cache was the last one he had searched for before realizing (a state away) that he had left or dropped his GPS near my cache. I quickly went out and found it myself and mailed it back to him (several states away). I was very thankful to him even though I told him he didn't have to do anything for me and I was glad he was able to get his GPS back. I know I would have missed mine too. That was very cool, I thought. How about that? Searching for a GPS in the woods instead of a cache! :-)
  6. Bumping this back up to get some response form the PTB. How about it guys? How about a multiple checklist to remove caches or trackables from the wathlist at one time, instead of: A long list is tiresome to remove many, one at a time. Thanks H5
  7. Can't believe no one commented on the cache title + thread title. Am I the only one who noticed it. Elephant Procotlogy: The Delicate Issue of Bad Taste. Caches that stretch taste to the limit. Sounds like a great book title Doc. Get to writin' :) :D
  8. An avenue you might want to take is looking into asking in a few NC group forums. I am in the Charlotte, NC area, but I know of several up in the Raleigh area who would probably take you up on your request. http://ncgeocachers.org/ http://www.charlottegeocaching.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TriangleGeocachers/ Good luck!
  9. Follow-up post. Tried to read the source codes for the websites, but couldn't find the right tags, so I'm not sure what can be done. Hopefully those more savy in website lingo can work it out to help "unblock" the sites from filters. PLEASE!!!!
  10. AH DANG IT! Shoulda kept my mouth shut! LOL! Come on Nate, put in a good word and help us out during down time and times when we are able to waste time online at work. Everyone has that time. Eventually! I know why my company does it. To prevent viruses and other harmful malware from coming in to the system through sites that can get corrupted. As for how each site is detected, I just assumed it was through some type of tag related query through reading the source code. That's just a guess. Who among you can say they have never tried and/or succeeded getting onto geocaching.com while at work, hmmmmmmmmm?
  11. I have a simple request. Please respond. PLEASE remove the <Meta tags> (and/or others that may apply) that list geocaching.com, Wherigo.com and cacheintrashout.com as a "Sport", "Sports", "Game", "Games" or any related topic to these two common references to geocaching. The reason being is that a lot of companies block access to websites which list these tags and the aforementioned sites must include them because my company is blocking the sites from access. Here is the funny thing. I can access Waymarking.com because the tags used on it's page(s) doesn't include any of the ones listed above. (Saying this, I can't access the former three because I am at work, but I will check on them later and amend this post to see what tags may be causing the block.) I do know that geocaching.com's block is based on the word "Sports", the Wherigo.com's block is based on the word "Games" and the cacheintrashout.com's block is based on the word "Sports" (these are just at my company). If the "PTB" would remove these tags (or similar wherever you may have them) from the list or description in the code, that would be AWESOME!!!! What say you PTB? Please make geocaching accessible from EVERYWHERE!!! ~H5 PS. Who else out there would like to access these sites from your office that has them blocked? Just say Yay or nay!!! Let's see if this works as a petition
  12. OK, I read this through the Viigo RSS reader on my Blackberry and I laughed so hard I was crying and couldn't breathe. I had to come to the thread and post that this by far was one of the funniest things I have read, if not, THE funniest. Thank you for this great laugh. If you don't mind, I am going to quote your excerpt on the Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club forums for a great read with credit due you.
  13. This one is not about the cache more than it is the location. The size may not be desirable, but the difficulty and terrain are accurate to make it accessible by wheelchair. This is one that is truly available to ALL cachers. It is close enough to both I85 and I77 (by way of the I485 loop) that it wouldn't require but a minor detour in either direction to grab it and continue on a journey. It has also been active for more than a year with no problems other than needing new log changes. Should it go missing, it would definitely be replaced immediately. Thank you for your kind words WS. If there are certain criteria that BPR would prefer, please let me know. I would be honored to hide or look at other possible caches I have hidden for the induction.
  14. Haffy's post in our Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club's forum brought this topic to our (my) attention. I am not sure what criteria you are looking for in a cache for this challenge, but I would like to submit Metalmorphosis for the Cache Across America series in NC.
  15. Will cast my vote for the check mark on the cache page with the link to the log for it. These are very reasonable and "do-able", IMHO! Very good ideas!!!!!!
  16. Not sure how many cachers would pay for a lifetime membership since there are sooooooo many that do the "freebie" thing. I like the idea, but $1000 is way overboard. Other lifetime memberships to organization don't cost near that. I could keep paying the $30 for 20 more years (hypothetically) and only be at $600, 30 years would only be $900. As fun as it is now, I honestly don't see myself committing to 30 years of geocaching. A good "lifetime membership" should be in the range of $300-$500 with discounts for age groups (whether old or young). Something better, may be a membership payment for an option of more than 1 year with auto renew. With discounts for the more years purchased. Now a Family Membership I would really seriously consider, whether it be one or multiple years. That is very "do-able" for us. Instead of the $30 yearly, maybe have it $100 with a limit of 4 names with multiple names an additional cost (cheaper than individual of course).
  17. Here's my idea: Disable one of your caches, then put some flour (loose and no package) in that one he keeps frequenting with a Note on top directed to him, "Dear Cap'n Norris, You have messed with the wrong geocacher! Since you have opened this container and have exposed yourself, maybe you should know what is about to happen to you before it does. Funny thing, (insert favorite powdered poison here), It will eat you alive.........(then go on to explain some side effects) I hope you have enjoyed your last raid of a cache in this area and thanks for playing, you may die now. Goodbye, (your name here)" If that doesn't scare him off, I don't know what will. LOL! <<ok, to all the serious people, this is just a joke, not to be taken literally. I'm just trying to make lite conversation here, please don't take it serious. There is really not much you can do, save the motion camera detection near one of them to snap a pic. However, turn the flash off, in case of a dark raid. Won't want him to take the camera too.>>
  18. Better yet, upload the image on your listing then point to that image's geocaching.com URL. No need to host it anywhere else when it can be hosted on the gc.com site.
  19. What about blocking known cachers who ghost log our or other's caches? I would be all for this since those in my area HAVE proven that a certain cacher is not visiting or signing logs and logging them as "found". We (as a group) have personally deleted more than 40 so-called "finds" of a ghost logger by actually visiting ours (and other cacher's) cache hides just to see if the name was on the log sheet, which it wasn't. I have even contacted a few other cachers in other parts of the country about this person who logged their cache and they verified that the person had never visited and signed their log either. This sounds like a good thing for blocking ghost cache loggers. Unless there is another way.
  20. Didn't know about the "limited" use of Signal. Sorry about that. It was just a thought, because I seem to remember seeing a picture of him a while back that had him in a painter's outfit. I may be wrong, but it may already be created for use. I wouldn't know where to look though. It's not on the goodies page.
  21. What about a cartoon of Signal (or other similar) dressed in white painter's overalls and one of those white painter's caps with either crossed or uncrossed arms with one hand holding a paint roller and the other holding a GPSr? Maybe Signal could have a puzzled look not knowing which way to go. Just a thought.
  22. Very Cool! Like those! Hope I can use the future one as well someday! BTW - Bump is used just to make the thread topic move to the top of the board list without actually posting relevant topic info.
  23. Here's something quick and basic along the lines you said. All the time I have for at the moment. And here's one for the future Those are cool, thank you. I was thinking more of an H with a superscript 5 (or 6 ) and red-ish glowing lightening bolts around. The font style doesn't have to be the same as mine. So other styles may look better with a "power" type feel. Does that make sense?
  24. Really glad to hear about this thread. Awesome avatars I've seen created here. Wonder if I could get some help. Curious to see what someone could come up with for Harwell5. You should be able to see what I have so far, but that took a lot of work in MS paint (best I got). I'm thinking of H to the 5th power of some sorts with lightening bolts and also would like red as strong color. Unless you have some other/better ideas. The 5 is for the number in our family, so this may need to be changed in the near future. If an extra one with H to the 6th power could be created with it, that would be great!
