  1. This looks like an awesome list of some caches in the Gdansk. Thank you so much. We plan in being in Poland for a family reunion in September 2017. Flying into Gdansk is the closest to where we need to be so I wanted to spend a day or so there. I don't speak or read Polish so the English translations were so welcomed. (My grandparents were from Poland. My grandfather died before I was born and my grandmother when I was 5. My dad never spoke it after he joined the Navy. And, my mother spoke German, not Polish.)
  2. We're heading to Daytona Beach on the 3rd of Feb. We'll be there about a week. Anyway, we have cached in the area before....kind of hit or miss as we stayed in Daytona Beach for a couple of days before Geowoodstock a few years ago and I did a quick overnight trip there even longer ago. Anyway, are there any we really should do caches in the area? Plus, and totally not geocaching related, any good places to eat that won't cause me to take a loan out at the bank? Thanks, Terri
  3. PAul, thanks for the info. It gives me a place to start. We're really looking forward to checking out this part of Canada, and the surrounding area. Not staying long but going to make the most of it. Terri
  4. I'm so glad I found this thread. We're heading up that way around the 6th of July......we have a wedding to attend on the 5th in Maine so why not head a bit more north! Question for Ma & Pa...or anyone else....the lighthouse cache that you mention that you have to drive down a dirt road. Is this a solidly packed dirt road or loose dirt? Important safety issue for me as usually we cache on a motorcycle and loose dirt makes it tricky. As we're not at all familiar with the area or Canada for that matter, any suggestions for places to camp? We have a 30 ft RV towing a trailer. Plans are to head towards the Canada on the 6th, cache for a couple of days and check out the area and then head back towards Maine to go home to Maryland. Thanks for any advise. Terri
  5. In Daytona: GC4E07 The Man in Black (virtual) Have fun. All the other caches we found in the area have been archived so that's the best I can do for help.
  6. Guten Tag Kai und willkommen zu Maryland. There are lots of great cachers in the College Park area as well as some great caches. Drop by one of the numerous events that are going on and I'm sure you will meet someone in that area. Unfortunately, I live about 2 hours south of College Park or I'd be happy to cache with you. Also, try posting over at the Maryland Geocaching Society....www.mdgps.org Terri
  7. Well, you should almost be getting ready to get on the plane. I hope you have a wonderful visit here in the states. It's a great area and you're coming at a really good time, not too hot and not too cold. Anyway, I hope you have as much fun here as we had when we visited the Netherlands. (I'd love to go back especially as we were their prior to caching!)
  8. Where in VA are you going to be? There are some great historical caches in the Williamsburg area but that won't help you if you're in Alexandria or Stauton. While VA isn't as big as TX, there is still a lot of it as it's not as small as RI.
  9. Wow, thanks for the info. I must have missed this and while we won't hit all the VA state parks, we generally get to a couple every summer.
  10. Read this whole thread. I've been around for a while (over 7 years) and if you look at our profile you will know that it's not about the numbers. This past Geowoodstock gave us 1000 caches. Okay, that being said, when we travel we cache. The first type of cache we look for is virtual followed by earthcaches. Then a regular cache that takes us somewhere interesting, historic or unusal. Yeah, we've found the lightpost caches and guardrail but they definitely aren't our favorites. And if you look you may notice that we have found a few benchmarks. This new thing that's coming out will probably be treated like a benchmark unless pictures are involved. Then, they will probably be totally ignored. I'm not good at remembering to upload pictures but I love learning things which is what a virtual and earthcache normally lets me do. So, I'd be thrilled if virtuals were returned with more structure. As for using a smart phone.....that is so not happening. I have one and usually end up yelling at it. Don't use it for much of anything except making phone calls. terri
  11. Okay, I'm looking for some folks that cache in the Houston area. I'm heading to the Houston Livestock Rodeo. All right, I know I don't have the name right but I'm assuming you know where and what I'm talking about. I just know I got asked did I want to go to a rodeo in Houston and I said yes. Never been to Houston or a rodeo so I'm super excited. Now, I will not have a car and will be staying at a hotel near the venue. I've gone online and looked and there appear to be a few doable caches. So, are they doable or will I just be out of luck? Terri
  12. Also, if these are Maryland cachers, try over at the Maryland Geocaching Society...www.mdgps.org Many of our members know cachers by their real names as well as their caching names or know who caches out of what area. Good luck and welcome to caching. Terri
  13. I hope you all have a wonderful time. I don't know anything about this year's jamboree as no scouts in the house any more and no job that goes there. The only time I was there was with the USGS and I had a blast. I don't know the dates or anything but I only live a little over an hour from AP Hill and would be willing to take a drive down that way to take any cachers caching. I do work so I would need some lead time or on the weekend. Anyway, have fun and can I say I'm so envious. I want to go!!!! Terri
  14. You might consider holding an event. Lots of cachers will probably show up depending on the date. One thing that many MD cachers are doing right now is CAM (cache across MD). This ties up a lot of time. You might also consider posting on the Maryland Geocaching Society's webpage forums. www.mdgps.org Good luck with your paper. Sorry, I live in southern southern MD. No where near Hagarstown. terri
  15. In Sept, my husband and I are heading to Huntington where I will attend a conference and my husband is getting with another attendee's husband to ride their Harleys. As far as we know the other couple does not cache. So, we're looking for some great rides possibly with a Harley shop or two along them and a few really easy caches. Easy, not Walmart parking lots or other not so great easy caches. My husand loves virtuals if that helps. Any suggestions would be welcome. We're not from this area and for some reason we got tasked for finding the rides. Maybe it's because the other couple is coming from OK and MD is a bit closer? Thanks Terri
  16. We had a great time chasing down virtuals in Gettysburg last year. We were able to introduce several families to geocaching by doing this. We didn't look for or find a single traditional cache during that trip due to no time and it was much more fun looking for the virtuals! I'd love to see virtuals in more of the parks like this. Please don't refer to Waymarking which I've looked at several times and still don't like. Terri
  17. Good job. I'm finding a lot of the MML caches are places I certainly would not have visited if not for this great geotrail. I'm nowhere even close to done but I've enjoyed talking to folks that are and listening to all the stories. There are a lot of them over on the Md geocaching society webpage. www.mdgps.org Besides great caches, there has been a lot of positive publicity that has come from this. Again, good job. Maybe we'll see you during CAM. Terri
  18. Well, my best friend came over last night so we could see if we could coordinate a camping weekend over Labor Day weekend. We had several things that had to be considered......it had to be within 8 hours as I have to work Sat morning and the earliest that I will get off is 1300, there had to be a campground with opennings and there had to be plenty of caches to do. Though, I hate to say it, Florence was not our first pick, it is a good one for us. We both have this very large gap in the south on our caching maps called SC! So, we already saw that there are not events in the general area planned for Sun so that takes care of that. We know at some point we will stop at South of the Border. For some reason which shocked my husband, I've never been there even after living in the Ft Bragg area for 8 years. Any other place that we just have to visit while there or cache that is so good that we have to find it? We love earthcaches and virtuals.....Lori and I like to hike if there are plenty of caches and billy will come with us if he has to. Anyway, we look forward to heading south barring anything unexpected happening. Terri
  19. I'd always learned that tb and coins that were activated are not included in the trade up or even. As I introduced family and friends to geocaching, this is what I told them. We all work hard on getting these items closer to their mission. However, my best friend and oldest son when caching to grab a new cache. My best friend grabbed the travel bug that was in the cache with the idea of moving it on. The cache owner not only sent her a very nasty email about taking the tb without leaving an equal trade but also posted it on the cache page! Some how it hasn't gotten out to the masses that travel items aren't swag and don't fall under the same rules. BTW the cache owner has been caching longer than I have so it's not because they are new cachers. Terri
  20. On the earthcache that I put out I purposely did NOT require a photo. Why, you may ask? Well, I have problems with requires a photo. Usually, I forget my camera or it doesn't have power. My phone takes pictures but I have that feature blocked due to cost and someone sending me stuff I didn't want. And even if I remember the camera and take the picture, I usually forget to download it into the computer and then it takes me hours to figure out how to post it. I hate requires a photo. Terri
  21. Okay, requested membership at yahoo. Any month for the most part is good for us. I skip church and then feel guilty until I start findng caches. When we did DC it was a wet cool Oct day. We couldn't wait to warm up and like Baltimore, it's a couple of hours from the house. Does anyone know if Baltimore has like a metro system? Are we trying to make a circle and come back to where we started? Lots of questions to work out but it should be fun. Terri
  22. I'd be interested if on a Sunday. I work 6 days a week and there is no way I can get off. I work in a one person post office and someone has to deliver the mail! I would suggest as the above poster said, to put this out for the Md Geocaching Society. I know when we did a blitz on DC, it helped a lot to have someone who knew the area to be with us. I know nothing about Baltimore having only viisted it maybe a dozen times in the past almost 50 years. Oh and if I can come, my best friend may join us as well as my oldest son and perhaps a grandchild or two. Our normal family caching party is 9. Terri
  23. I hate to say it but the only time we were at Massantten, the best part of the trip was the caching! It's been a couple of years since we were there so I can't offer any suggestions on good caches. Enjoy the mountains and remember that the distance on your GPS may not be the actual distance. There are lots of gullies in those mountains and they do controllled burns in certain areas. Terri
  24. Most of the local cachers have been very busy doing CAM (cache across MD). Between work and CAM, this is the first time in almost a month that I've made it to the geocaching forums though I've been on the MD ones frequently. CAMs official end picnic is this coming weekend so we should be getting back to normal soon. I'd help with the caches except I've never cached in Baltimore. I tend to stay way from DC and Baltimore, enjoying the more rural parts of our state. Now, if you want some good caches in way southern MD....St Mary's county, then, I could help you. terri
  25. Could rural mail count be getting to you to? It is a lot of our carriers! I don't even carry and it's beginning to bother me. I'm counting at two offices.....a fairly large office close to my house until 11 and then a mad rush to my office where I count my 16 deliveries. I don't know about around Pgh but we just aren't seeing the mail that we usually do which is making everyone cranky. Don't blame them a bit and wish I could come up with the normal mail. Terri
