  1. I would have to agree with Brian. Although I have a 60CS (aka the mercedes of gps), I rarely if ever use the electronic compass. I also have never needed the barometric altimeter. I have owned (now sold) a LegendC and can say that it is much better than the vista. It powers on and locks onto satellites much much quicker. Also, the reception had been excellent even under tree cover. The color screen and autorouting (with software) is just awesome. If your hooked on a compass, just buy one from a sports store and carry it with you, which is something you should do anyway. I might just buy another LegendC as I miss it
  2. I saw another thread somewhere on here that also discussed bad experiences with gpsexplorer.com. Seems like a common consensus. Hope things work out ok for you.
  3. I buy all my GPS units from gpsnow.com They consistently have the lowest price and great customer service with fast shipping. Currently the 60CS is $397.95 and with the $50 manufacturer rebate, your looking at $347.95 before shipping.
  4. Hi all, Have a mint condition eTrex Yellow only 7 months old. No scractches in perfect condition. I don't have the box, but includes in the manual and lanyard. I will ship it to you FedEx overnight anywhere in the U.S for $60.
  5. I believe you may be looking for this... http://www.ems.com/products/product_detail...D=1115049294558
  6. Luckily I have never dropped one of my GPS units, but my cell phone has taking quite a beating by dropping it and my daughter occasionally tossing it like a toy across concrete. Anyway, I wish the thing would just break so I can get a new cell phone darn you Motorola
  7. Since I don't care about the dashboard in my car, I used a few drops of superglue. Works like a champ and will probably take a hunk of the dash out if I ever feel like prying it off
  8. SOLVED! I figured out what the Can 210 means on the 60CS serial number lable. At least after reading the below it would sound logical Just by chance last night, I was hooking up my new Logitech MX1000 Cordless Laser Mouse and happened to be looking at the bottom of the mouse. Low and behold what did I see by the Model # and Patent numbers but 'Canada 210' A search of the Logitech website turned up the following "This digital device does not exceed the Class B limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus specified in the interference-causing equipment standard entitled “Digital Apparatus” ICES-003 of Industry Canada. This device complies with RSS-210 of Industry Canada. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: 1) this device may not cause interference, and 2) this device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device." Looks like the equivalent of a FCC statement...
  9. Well, I heard back from the service rep and he confirmed the serial # as good. All he could offer was that it was possibly some sort of internal code that identified the unit as having a revised circuit board that has been updated from the originals. Bottom line....they don't have a clue Either way, since I just unlocked CitySelect 6 to it, I'm stuck with it Cheers!
  10. Does anyone know what version the Canadian basemap is? By chance would it be 2.10? I know the Americas is 2.20 If it's 2.10 then I would suspect that this was a Canadian unit, thus the Can 210 stamped in the battery compartment? And somehow became a US unit? Maybe I'm just crazy...
  11. As I stated above the serial number in the battery compartment matches what is on the box. What you are having me do is display the unit id # which as far as I know does not appear on the box or anywhere else for that matter... correct me if i'm wrong
  12. As a follow up I just contacted Garmin and spoke to a service rep. He said he had never heard of anything with that type of serial number. He also asked a couple co-workers and they never heard of it either. He took my email address and said he would investigate further and get back to me. He said it possibly could be a new revision of serial numbers that they haven't been notified about or it could even be a re-furb , but he also said that it was unlikely as re-furbs just have a normal serial #...guess I'll have to wait to hear back...either way I still want to know...
  13. I have a basic etrex yellow that is about 6 months old in like new condition. I have the manuals and lanyard but no box. It's your for $70...
  14. Hi all, I just bought another 60CS for my GPS collection, and noticed it has a strange serial number. In the battery compartment it has the usual 380***** but beneath that number is CAN210 I looked at the box and it says Americas on it, the serial number on the box matched the number in the battery compartment and the basemap appears to be the Americas. Has anyone seen this before and know what it is? Just curious... Cheers!
  15. On my 60CS with WAAS enabled and no external antenna, the lowest I've gotten is +/- 7ft and on average I typically get +/- 12-20ft. I live in Massachusetts with lots of trees
  16. Great picture...and she looks like a troublemaker too! I'll give Garmin a call.
  17. accuracy comes down to what the position of the satellites are on any given day in your location. some days I get 8-10 ft accuracy while other days I get 12-20 ft and on other days 22-35... this happens to be in my car on my commute to and from work.. just don't sweat it...
  18. Hi All, Will have to call Garmin on this one and see if they will repair it, but I had the unit strapped onto the shoulder strap of my backpack and happened to catch a wayward tree branch that put a gash in the rubber coating of the antenna. So much for waterproofness Anyway, should Garmin not repair this for free and depending on cost, I was thinking I could just use some tub and sink calking to fill the gash and smooth it over. Anyone forsee problmes with this solution? By the way the unit still acquires and locks onto satellites with no problems. Thoughts?
  19. hmmm...read the manual or call Garmin
  20. Dave, I also sent you an email, but how long ago did Garmin start making these version 3 units?
  21. Milbank, I believe you are thinking of the new GPS60 which is also yellow. The basic etrex yellow does not have waas...
  22. Well, i've noticed poor satellite signals recently as well. I normally lock on to 6-10 birds with WAAS and on average get about 12ft accuracy. Lately, I've only been locking on to 3 or 4 birds...still have WAAS though and my accuracy has been on average around 25ft....still not bad but a bit lower than it normally is.
  23. Sorry for the bump, but I'm now dealing with Garmin in regards to this flaky battery meter since going to the 3.70 firmware. Beside those who posted, are there any other 60CS owners who are seeing big battery meter fluctuations since going to the new firmware? Thanks!
