  1. You don't really need any extra memory. They have lots stock. It is only needed if you are planning on putting on a lot of different maps all of them covering continent or a lot of Birdseye.
  2. It was discontinued, because there is a newer model, the 32X, that came out in June this year. There is very little different with the new model (more memory and preloaded maps). They are a good unit and work well. $130 is a great price.
  3. It seems the numbering is just different on the Glonass satellites. Positions look the same. And, yes, it is showing ALL WAAS satellites at the northern horizon. I've rebooted and connected to a few and they all show center, top of the screen. I get Ds on some Glonass IDs.
  4. Here is my test. August 4, 2019 06:47 mountain time. N51 W114.
  5. Did you update the firmware. This was fixed in the last firmware.
  6. It does not work that way. "Share Wirelessly" on a Garmin is via the ANT+ protocol and is between other compatible Garmin devices. You need to use the app on the Garmin to import data.
  7. More or less all the Garmin handhelds do what you want. The difference are the input method (buttons or touchscreen) and screen size. Also the lower priced models run a bit slower. My suggestion is to find a store to look at them in person and see what you like versus the cost. The newest models Gpsmap 66 and Oregon 700 series have wifi and bluetooth to get live information through a phone. But these are pretty expensive. You can also still read the cache info on your phone and navigate with the GPS, if you want.
  8. Yes. https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=5awjmF0u6fAPAGNFW0ACj5 https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2017/04/new-a-magic-button-for-your-garmin-gps/
  9. Because that is the new way for sending Geocaches "directly" from Groundspeak.
  10. Yah. I'm sure Groundspeak had an issue and they fixed it during the transition..
  11. I not sure that you understand the issue. The 64S has bluetooth as does the 64SX. When the 64S was new, Garmin had an app that let you use the bluetooth to transfer files. Since the app disappeared, there is no use for the bluetooth. They could set it up just like the 66 and allow live geocaching data and access to pocket queries, if they wanted. It is only a bit of software. Wifi has no relevance to the issue.
  12. Not a huge step. You can already do that with the iReach Explorer+ and SE+. The problem with those models is that they only allowed the use of delorme maps and do not have the Geocaching features.
  13. If not, then their spec page is very misleading.
  14. It is in the manual. Of course that could be an error. Page 8. http://static.garmin.com/pumac/etrex 22x_32x_OM_EN-US.pdf
  15. We can dream that this will encourage them to finally add functionality to the bluetooth on the 64S. But I doubt it.
  16. Strange today. They released the Etrex x2X series and the Gpsmap 64X series. As far as I can see the only change is more memory and Galileo support. It is strange to have done another 64 model with the 66 out. Oh, and the 66i, a 66 with inReach. That one looks nice as it does Geocaching and accepts Garmin maps, which the other inReach units do not.
  17. When you "find them", they change status to found and show with a different icon and not normally be visible in searches and on the map. A list is also created on the GPS with the find, notes and dates. Are you not logging them as found on the GPS?
  18. Well. You can either ask questions, accept help and learn or simply continue to complain. The second option really does nothing production than to perhaps make you feel better. It would also prevent you from wasting time and effort return units. The people here know more about how they function than anyone, including Garmin support.
  19. Al Garmin units do this. It has been this way for as long as I remember.
  20. Whenever I've noticed it happening in the field, there has not been a WAAS lock. For that reason, it is more common on north facing slopes. At this latitude, you need a clear view to the south to see a geosynchonous satellite. It happens less often with the 64S, but it still happens. The position will be 100 meters off, but the unit says it has an EPE of 10 meters and it is connected to a dozen satellites. Like I said, anyone that has been around will remember when this started to happen. There was a lot of discussion on the issue. It was improved and is thus fairly rare, but the original bug is still there. The older units never did this.
  21. Here are eight tracklogs of the same hike over seven years. They are all my own to avoid any argument over how they were recorded. Half are with a Colorado, half with a 64S. In the spots where you see the track wander off, the GPS is still showing a good EPE. Rebooting fixes the problem, or it just wanders back eventually. The red one was a reboot. This used to be a well known and well discussed issue that started following one of the Colorado firmware updates. You can see it happen on all newer units once in awhile.
  22. Thanks. I'm well aware of the potential benefits. What I'm telling you is that real life comparisons do not show that those potential benefits results in actual ones. As already stated, I get to compare many track logs from many devices. These are not tracks on trails in optimal conditions. These are is heavy forest cover on steep mountains and in deep valleys. The multi system receivers are not providing better quality tracks. If you get into the nit picky details, you can show that they are a little bit worse. It is quite apparent when caching. The location accuracy during a find is on average worse with GLONASS turned on. One thing that I do know is that all Garmin handhelds starting at the Colorado occasionally go completely off every now and then (without the unit knowing it) and it only seems to happen when they can't connect to a WAAS satellite. There is a bug in the software that has been carried through since that device that has never been rectified.
  23. In my experience that does not help. The GLONASS system seems to be less accurate, so the end combination is not a step up. I run a mapping project and get to see dozens of tracks of the same trails from different devices. There is no measurable difference in signal quality between any modern Garmin GPS.
  24. Satellite reception should be about the same.
