  2. Garmin GPS III + - have used this around the world for years. China, Africa, the North Slope of Alaska in the winter to name a few. One tough unit. Garmin IQue 3600 - just got this, so still learning how to use it.

  4. Funny . . . It's reasonably priced, trackable and, based on the one that I have out, people enjoy finding it in a geocache. (OK, it's only been picked up once at this point, but based on response to other geocoins I have in the wild, people like to find them and move them along.) It, like other geocoins, is a compact travelbug that is neat to find and yields an icon bonus. Though I don't want every geocoin that's out there, nice ones are cool to get, release and/or find. Used as a travelbug, this coin seems to have a great deal to do with geocaching. I wouldn't mind a Korean geocoin either! If I had one it's mission would be to find its way to Korea and visit some of the places that I have been. I'd be hard pressed to identify more than a handful of geocoins that really seem to have anything to do with geoaching. So what. I totally agree. At least there is a better possibility that this coin will actually get released in the wild thus being used for what it is meant for. Unlike many geocoins that are lucky see the light of day in a binder. I'm going to release one in my area and I bet it won't stay in any cache longer than a day for weeks as long as someone doesn't decide keep it.
  5. I don't remember getting an email from you. We certainly care as we spent a ton of hours building that tracking site. If you have troubles with it, send me an email detailing your difficulties and keep the comments out of the forums. :mad I apologize if I upset you. I guess my frustration got the better of me. PM sent.

    Geopins

I'd like to trade. Do you have a trade list?
  7. I found a Texas geocoin in a cache and tried to register on the Texas Geocaching Assoc. site so I could log it. Never received the email conformation to complete the registration process. Email sent to the site admin. didn't help. They just didn't seem to care. I ended up just leaving it in another cache without logging it. Hope the people that find your geocoins have better luck.
  8. I think whole point of ending it in early summer is that people that don't work in the summer don't get an unfair advantage on those that do. I know I will be working during the week all year long so can only do BM hunting on weekends.
  9. Do you recall how many people participated in the last contest?
  10. I be interested in doing this since I didn't do the last contest. With the one month + lag time till the contest starts won't some people possible find BM's before the start of the contest and wait to log them till it starts (revisit them)? Is this to be expected within the framework of the rules and fair practice or cheating?
  11. I've been looking at the Garmin PDA's. In the comparison charts they list a maximum of 1000 waypoints on most of them. Does this just mean internal or can you put additional points on the SM card? I want the ability to load at least a couple of thousand points. Preferably in separate files, can this be done? Any insights would be appreciated.
  12. Read some of the posts already on this forum. This question has been answered numerous times. Help links also show up during cache searchers that explain how to do it.
  13. Tried to email Oak Coins this morning. It bounced. Guess they don't have email up and running yet. Anyone else tried?
  14. What you evidently found is whats left of the sight of a Bombing Range Recording Theodolite used at the Air Force Base. It's basically whats left of a heavy duty tripod. The disk is actually one of two reference marks for tri-station "Pippin", which should be located 30.218 meters northwest of the disk you found.
  15. Here is a link for the surveyors rope I mentioned in an earlier post: Surveyors Rope We used to use them all the time in the field. Only 14.95 for a 100 footer and last a long time. Other than a steel chain best thing to use against wind. Forestry Suppliers used to have a plastic covered steel rope but I don't see it listed anymore.
  16. I'd definitely be interested in the pins. Might buy a few coins but really don't want to get involved in the Geocoin craze. Just don't have the funds.
  17. If you have problems with wind a lot you might want to look into getting a fiberglass "rope" survey chain. You can get them from survey supply stores. They are pricey though.
  18. Thanks for the tip. I haven't been able to get on either, also sending an email that was never responded to. You'd think with this possibly happening to numerous people they would display and announcement prominently somewhere alerting users.
  19. They do. Any state on the Public Land Survey System will have topo's with red lines representing Township/Range and Section lines. That is the grid.
