  1. Go with 95% or higher DEET based products (e.g. Deep Woods OFF for Sportsmen) - I have very good results (down from 1-2 attached tickes per month (removed immediately within the first few hours) to zero since I started using it about 2 years ago - just be careful touching any plastic with body parts or clothing parts that are treated. I had a cellphone melt on my ear (it thankfully didn't get stuck to the ear but it was toas nevertheless).
  2. I got tempted (my masochistic trait) to upgdate after reading this thread - I updated to 4.10 (from 3.80) an hour ago and I actually experience the opposite - I get a lock much faster than before (but them maybe that is something that was already improved after 3.80 - I didn't upgrade for quite a while)
  3. Congratulations!!!! !!! Thanks to this post I had a fantastic caching day today. For anyone that wasn't there yet: go....
  4. I am using an M515 with Cachemate. Invested another $8 in an aluminum hard shell case (ebay). It's my trusting caching buddy (completely paperless) and should I ever break it ebay has more... I even replaced the battery recently (I think i twas around $14) and it's working like new again.... I would not buy a spiffy model for caching - only to loose it in the field, drop it, sit on it etc..... It's kind of tempting Murphy's law....
  6. There's a better price for the serious cache hunter: 1-Day Fun Pass Cost: $7, reduced fare not available Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides from first use until 3 a.m. the following day. Ideal for intermediate waypoints or multi-caches - including the night in Central Park that is part of your nightmares...
  7. After rethinking: You are absolutely right: I sometimes take my Godson caching - and he doesn't care where the trading toys come from... (Actually I usually carry the trade up items that I quietly slip into the cache after he is done raiding it - otherwise he'd just take what I have in my backpack....)
  8. Nice Story - but: xxx of Mahopac enjoys the hobby with his daughters, who are 8 and 5. The children love to swap treasure, and xxx thinks it's a great way to rid his home of an oversupply of toys from McDonald's. made me shiver (as I really don't like placing or seeing MD toys in caches....)
  9. Congratulations It's alwasy fun caching with you!

  18. Just wondering if the hunting Season in NJ is over? I want to catch up on the caching through the snow caches on this coming Monday (holiday...).... P.S. For those of you who knew my friend Duncan the Boxer (and remember that I didn't make it to the event because he was sick): He had terminal cancer and passed to a better place on December 13...

  21. I am very sorry to say that I will not be there tomorrow. One of my two dogs is seriously ill (we just spent several hours at the hospital doing all kinds of test - including ultrasound etc.) and I don't want him to be alone that long. I will truly miss the event...
