  1. The Jersey ones are usually pretty mellow... See post #15 in this thread for my Dog rescue... Not that I want to repeat that adventure but in retrospect it is a great story to tell to my grandkids (wait... need to have kids first to do that... )
  2. Sorry - won't make it... Just got home from the 'skills - too many miles and too much elevation the last two days - need to rest tomorrow...
  3. Will try to be there including the post event hike. Will post my 'final' update Saturday night (if I return from the Catskills in time).
  4. In the Android Market you have 24 hours to return an app and get your money back if you don't like it - that should give enough time to see if it works for you... My vote goes to Cachemate (with Geobeagle as a second)
  5. Congrats! Way to go - an amazing achievement!
  6. Beautyful... Makes me want to go out and cache even in the snow today :-)
  7. I couldn't. Don't get me wrong. I have cached using GeoBeagle (forgot the Colorado @ home and realized that once I reached the parking area for a 5+ cache run 45 minutes away) and it works just fine - no issues. The main issue with the Hero (or Droid, or G1) is the battery live when using the GPS + Display constantly... I was able to cache for 4 hours but the battery went down to 20%. So I would have no chance to do a typically summer cache/hike day which for me is 8+ hours out of the car without buying many spare batteries.... Also you won't have maps on the Android Phone unless you have reception which at least around here is very problematic even with the best carriers....
  8. Congratulations to Walkin' Ed for walking to #4000
  9. I agree that spot is a nice to have... However for me (and that's my opinion after personal research) a PLB is much more robust for true emergency notification. I hike 99% of the time alone - and a lot of my hikes are off trail in remote areas. I carry a PLB all the time (and would be less comfortable carrying a SPOT).
  10. Why experiment. Invisible Shield all the way (on my GPSes, Cellphones, etc.)
  11. Not to distract too much - but not sure if you know this: When you use the field note upload you get to fill in every log manually so no need for the scroll wheel nightmare (I only use the scroll wheel for 2-3 word notes to myself that will help me to log better later) - but it saves you looking up the cache... I bet once you try it you'll not go back to doing everything manually...
  12. Thanks for the update. I had thought that the Sunday change was only for private property and I was apparently wrong - so I am very glad you pointed this out.
  13. Thanks Pete - hope to meet up at a cache in the near future again...
  14. Nothing short of amazing! Congratulations
  15. The fun comes from figuring out all those hiding places one by one... No need to spoil the fun here
  16. Just saw this thread. Already have plans for painting AT Boundary on Saturday - otherwise I'd join you... Can't wait to try the new trail :-) Have fun completing it....
  17. Good luck with the move - you'll be missed. I fondly remember all the Pirate events that I was able to make. Hmm - you are the third person I know to move to Seattle from here in the last 4 month - maybe we should all go..... (Makes it easier for Mark's coming Pirates of Mount Olympus event)
  18. Great pics... I know you must be hiking out there carrying a necklace of honey coated donuts...
  19. I would be torn between Aircrash 3 (previous suggestion) and Aircrash 4 . I found 4 the most formidable single cache challenge for me to date. IF you are up for a long hike, the challenge of finding a path the works (you'll spend at least 3+ hours bushwhacking) then this would make a great cache....
  20. I've done pretty much the same loop once - but without the side trips to 'Herbert', 'Pavement' and 'Swaps'... Was enough and I really enjoyed it... Glad to see I am not the only crazy hikercacher
  21. Great picture - I think I have to come over soon and have a word with that furry fellow... It seems that you raise them well to stay in Sparta Glen so whenever I come over they are already waiting to greet me...
  22. Kevin, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I know how hard it is having lost my two boxer-pals in the last 3 years. I remember Bailey well from the Caching through the Snow events and other encounters - she was always the first one to greet me - she will live on in our memories.
  23. With the latest Firmware I had zero issues so I would consider it stable. IMHO the biggest advantage of the Colorado is the scroll wheel. Living in an area with several month of frigid temperatures and caching with sturdy gloves on this works much much better than any buttons or touch screen. The IPX7 to IPX5 downgrade is an interesting issue - I wonder if that would warrant having Garmin replace the unit since it does not meet the specifications under which it was purchased..
