  1. I am in. I cache over here in Wollongong and I am a big fan or swaps or drops. I love a bit of cache maintenance and upkeep, and enjoy finding a cache that needs a bit of attention. I have a 5litre (flour) container full of small odds and ends I have collected and I carry with me in the car so I always have some SWAG to trade. I carry spare logs and also a hand towel so I can dry wet caches. #missiontoswag

  3. DIY PVC Cryptex (in Metric) Gday fellow geocachers, I hope this post finds you well and this is just a quick post to show you all what I have been working on lately. Basically, I have build a Cryptex out of PVC and DWV pipe I scavenged from here in Australia (Wollongong actually) and made a video & workbook you can follow to build your own. The history is I have 'okay' craft skills owing to having young kids at home, and similar computing skills through work so what better way than combining the two to answer a challenge I was set to make my GC hides more original and entertaining. So, the end result is a nice little cache container (actually its 140mm long and 42mm wide inside so not so little), a 10min step by step video and an A3 schematic booklet (12 pages) that contains each step to build your own. To those who have been asking for a cryptex in metric, enjoy. Video: A3 PDF Workbook: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwgIp5kFU-UvdEVUQ09xZ0lZd1U Ben (auzzy_mate)
  4. How do I.....paint PVC? I have some PVC pipe I am going to use to put a cache inside to protect it from the elements, but just wanted to paint it a more cammo colour. I have heard to rough up the surface first, Krylon Fusion Paint undercoat, even dye the PVC. Are there any tips out there for what is available at Bunnings/Mitre 10/Home Hardware etc etc? auzzy_mate
  5. I carry around different logs and plastic baggies in my cache-bag to replace wet logs (its a wet winter here in Australia so I see a few). If I cant dry out the old log, I put in a new log (with a note on the log saying its a 'replaced log'), write to the CO and take them home to dry. I take a photo of them and post an image to my 'Found' log for that cache and then send the original (and now dry) logs back to the CO if they want them. auzzy_mate
  6. I have had a coin for a while now and since then I have found a few caches, can I edit my Logs for my Finds to 'dip' my geo-coin even though they were a month or two ago? auzzy_mate
  7. I use EasyGPS to download to my GC. http://www.easygps.com/download.asp auzzy_mate
  8. I have just purchased a GC and did have trouble at first, but just make sure the Magellan Communicator is up-to-date. auzzy_mate
  9. Back when I started to first go online forums (20 years ago now) I used to like people to know where I was from straight away. The "auzzy" shows me as an Australian and the "mate" shows how an Australian stereo-typically speaks. Ben aka auzzy_mate
  10. Looks like the Magellan eXplorist GC is the winner for the kids. Now to find some child friendly caches to get them to find. auzzy_mate
  11. I normally use my iPhone 6 Plus for my adventures but I have just been given the choice between two older GPS devices that I can have from work (for free). I have primarily been caching in urban areas (Sydney / Wollongong / Canberra) where I can use my smart-phone (with their power issues) without too much trouble, but I have just started cache-ing with my teenage kids and figure they need something simple to give them to use to find caches (does not need to log or see images really, just upload a GPX / LOC / etc and off they go). I have a choice between a Garmin Foretrex 401 and a Magellan eXplorist GC. Thoughts? Ben auzzy_mate

  15. Good day to you all, My name is auzzy_mate and I live in the Hurstville area and work in Mosman. I am putting it out there that if anyone need someone to help with maintenance (or maybe change Ownership) I am happy to assist where I can. I drive to and from Mosman each day from Kingsgrove Rd along the M5, past the airport and through the ED (or Kings Cross when I car-pool) then through Neutral Bay out to Mosman: so if anyone has a cache withing 1-2km of that route I am happy to make detours to help. auzzy_mate
