  1. I was thinking of leaving fishing flys that I hand tie myself as a sort of signiture item. I was going to put them in a small plastic cup, with a lid, like you would get salad dressing in at a to go salad bar and write my name and date on the bottom. Is that a bad idea? There's a gentleman up in Oregon that does that very thing. I have one of his flys.
  2. This rates a bingo! Nail meet hammer......
  3. I guess I'd want a more definitive description of what the OP considers a bad part of town, but after looking at the map and caches in my town, there are definite black holes in several areas. One thing that I note on our map is that the black holes are located in very affluent white neighborhoods, very low income white neighborhoods, very low income black neighborhoods and very low income mixed neighborhoods. We also have a military base that is cacheless. We have two historic black colleges in town that they both have a number of caches located in their vicinity and one white college that has a number as well.
  4. I've done a few caches down in the keys that were placed by folks that are from more northern latitudes. Could be that things were more relaxed back then, but I would agree that if the rules allow a cache under just about every third lamp post skirt, they should be allowed in wild and more infrequently travelled areas too.
  5. I'm not a fan of Micro's either, but I _do_ open and sign the log _if_ I'm going to log it online. After all that is how the "game is played".
  6. Mine rides with me sometimes and will hunt some of the easier walks, but it's mostly just me.
  7. Just want to offer my condolences for your loss, and to welcome you this hide and seek endeavor. You can meet some nice folks doing it....
  8. Sorry to hear this. Doesn't cost you anything to just wait and see. Bugs have popped back into the hunt after long durations in the ether.
  9. And now that I got that smarta** reply outta the way, I wish you much success in your hide. I'd like to think everyone that visits your cache would appreciate the time and effort that you put into it, but we both know that won't happen. You've already seen that with your other cache that someone decided to replace for you. I have trouble fathoming the audacity of some folks. I hope your hand heals and that your cache becomes a favorite and lasts for years!
  10. Wow! That is unheard of dedication to the sport!!! Let's all give him a hand! As to hiding inside of a building... as long as the user of a GPS is essential to finding it, and it doesn't fall under the commercial cache restrictions, you should be good with that, although, of course, the restricted hours would mean that fewer people would probably find it. Look at library hides for an example of how to set one like that up (or speak with your reviewer) Why give him a hand? He only needs a finger.......
  11. Surely, we sign the log as proof that we got there, but if the CO's log is unavailable I find 2 ways to prove that I got there....I insert a temporary log that I sign, then I contact the CO and describe what I found. In each case, so far, the CO has agreed with me! I'd say that pretty well sums it up. My thoughts too.
  12. While I'm sure I don't qualify, I'll do the into anyway. Name is Mike and I'm in North Alabama. Had the good fortune to be able to travel for a year in the US so managed a few caches out west. Back home now and enjoy hunting some on the weekends. Get to go some with my Dad, but I mostly cache alone. I enjoy the solitude. I have two coins currently. A kind soul sent me an Alabama Geocaching Association coin a month or so ago. I found a Texas coin on the road in '08. I have moved a few travellers on their way though.
  13. Can't help you with the caches there, but Glacier is one of the more beautiful places on this planet. Can't wait to go back.
  14. Depends on how often I go. If there's a chance I'll go a few days in a row, I upload a bunch and leave them on. At least once a week I change them out.
  15. Interesting idea, although I join others in saying the cache should always be there. Maybe do something different with the contents.
  16. I'm pretty happy with Geosphere on my Ipod Touch.
  17. You probably have not deleted the old ones then. When you push find then waypoints, what do you get?
  18. Your unit will only hold 1000 waypoints in it's internal memory. How many are you trying to upload via GSAK?
  19. Alien Dood, I both appreciate your post and feel your pain. And that's saying something considering I've not placed a single cache out there. That doesn't stop me from having an opinion though. :-) I've started and stopped this "hobby" a few times. I'm not in it for the numbers so I haven't always logged my hits or misses, although with this "handle" I'm logging everything, find or not. You are the type hider I'd like to see more of, but based on what I see out there I'm not surprised that I don't see more of "your" type caches. It takes a lot of effort and it sucks when that effort is rewarded with indifference. I personally think there are more "don't really care folks" caching now than the stoked cachers. If for nothing else, keep putting the interesting ones out there for people like me. We'll appreciate it, even though some doofus is gonna come along and mess it up. Regards, Mike
  20. If I get out of my vehicle and physically go look for a cache, I log the outcome of that search. If I don't find it, I log a DNF. If I were that CO, it would tell me that I had good hiding skills. It certainly wouldn't upset me. This is a game of hide and seek.
