  1. I have looked at what has been posted in the forums. I was wondering where it is posted in the guidelines about grandfathering.
  2. Out of interest, where does it say existing caches are grandfathered against the new guidelines regarding challenge caches?
  3. Looks like someone doesn't play well with others. You can't really complain a cache or cache owner is giving geocaching a bad name when you wont simply tell the cace owner what cache is causing the problem. If you are in contact with an offended property owner and not the cache owner, the socially acceptable words for that elude me at the moment. If you don't want to deal with the cache owner, report it to a reviewer, or Groundspeak. I am quite sure they will be in contact with the cache owner ASAP to get the problem resolved if indeed there is a problem. Until the problem is dealt with, it is hard to say what, if anything is going on.
  4. Thanks. I find sometimes that looking up earth caches and virtual along our route helps locates interesting places. Hopewell rocks was bard to locate exactly where it was until I spotted the earth cage there.
  5. A few year go we headed down East to tour around and end back in Quebec for Canada's first mega event. In Cornwall we visited the Historic Cornwall Jail. In Quebec City we visited Montmorency Falls. They have cable car that takes you up to the top and you can walk over the top and work your way back down along board walks and stairs with look out points along the way. Montmorency Falls - From Up High - Cropped by Keith Watson aka Keith Watson, on Flickr Grand Falls has an earth cache an virtual on either side of the falls. Grand Falls by Keith Watson aka Keith Watson, on Flickr In Hartland there is the largest covered bridge in the world. Hartland Covered Bridge by Keith Watson aka Keith Watson, on Flickr Sackville Waterfowl Park in Sackville was an interesting place to visit. There was an earth cache there. We took the guided tour which is still only $12.00 for the whole family. That includes the guide, binoculars, and cookies and lemon aid at the end. Moncton has a zoo and magnetic hill that was fun to visit and South of Moncton is the Hopewell Rocks. if you time it right with the tide you can walk on the floor of the Bay Of Fundy. Hopewell Rocks From Above by Keith Watson aka Keith Watson, on Flickr We spent two days on P.E.I. by crossing the confederation bridge to the island and the ferry back to the mainland which took us to Nova Scotia.
  6. Sorry for the delay, been busy lately. chuck the canuck, you are the winner for this month. Please create a new thread and pick an theme.
  7. Turns out it was not a smash and grab after all. Turned into and adventure for the family and a lesson about finding caches.
  8. Why does the add say limited availability - reserve early?
  9. Once the minimum is reached, will there be a maximum number of plates issued withe the graphic?
  10. I wonder how many people will find a memorable cache to mark the day, or just a quick smash and grab to fill in that square or get the souvenir? Pesonally, i will be heading out with the family tonight to get a quick one.
  11. This is what happens when something becomes successful. Google has recognized it and now they want their cut.
  12. I am not happy with the loss of satellite coverage up here in Canada and that is being covered in another forum thread. What I would like to know is with the ability to view a PQ and other caches at the same time be returned. By removing this ability, the value of the map has gone down for me. This was a great feature for finding adding caches to a bookmark list that were not on the book mark list.
  13. My current work around now is to run a PQ for the area and view that in Google Earth. Then grab the loc file from a bookmark list and drop that into Google Earth. The loc will place little flags for the items and I can see which geocaches are not in my book mark list. Refreshing is a pain but there is no limit on loc files from a bookmark list so it is doable. Just slower.
  14. Here is a possible work around. What I am doing now is running a PQ for the area i am interested in and viewing it in Google Earth. With the 5 PQ a day limit and 1,000 max per PQ, I don't go crazy maxing out my PQ's every day so this is working for me for now.
  15. Not impressed up here in Canada. No sat map coverage up here on the new maps.
  16. I am not impressed with the change. I have book mark lists and would like to see other caches as well to know if there is any I should add to the book mark list. This capability has essentially been removed. Please put an option in to select which way we would like to see it.
  17. If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score? Vince Lombardi Anyone who celebrates a milestone I would say it matters to them. It matters to me +1.
  18. This idea has been borrowed from the UK board. The theme this month is "Where is the snow?" This winter has not given much snow, and when it has, it hasn't lasted long. Posts some pictures where you have found snow. Good luck and have fun! The rules are....., 1) The photo must be cache related and to do with a specific Canada cache (any type including events), caching series or caching trip - please include a link to the cache or the GC.... code so we can see where the picture relates to. 2) Two photos per caching team or cacher. (Maybe 3 if you really have an extra pic that's great!) 3) A new thread is started each month, with the OP stating these rules. 4) The winner each month is decided by the winner from the previous month - the new winner starting the thread for the subsequent month. They may set a theme* if they wish. For this the initial month the other three members of Team Pixos will pick the winner. 5) Photos should be recent preferably taken in the current month. 6) This month the competition runs from the 1st of the month, until Feb 29. This should give sufficient time for the winner (or other person if necessary) to start the new thread. If you haven't already uploaded a photo, a good tip might be to upload to one of your log entries (it can just be 'post a note'). Then, display the photo and copy the URL to provide a link to the post. If it's not actually relevant to the cache you've used, delete the note and the photo - the URL will still work. On this forum, add a reply and click the small green tree icon above the text box and paste in your URL. Let's get some awesome shots from across Canada.
  19. I think organized group hunt events is better than driving people to other websites to find out about them. Why make people go to other sites when they can one stop shop where they get there caches from.
  20. Wow, that is just a bad cache and probably in violation of the guidelines. I'll give you some information you may not be aware of. Caches like this exist outside of power trails. You will probably find plenty of caches you don't like that are not in power trails. Don't think I have ever heard cache placers being part of the numbers game. I have ever to work derived why if you seem to hate power trails so much, why are you bothering to find them?
  21. Time Again, time. Why should this cache get any different treatment form any other caches along a power trail. For any cacher who started after the power trail was put in place, bushwacker would just be another cache along the trail and for the most part nothing more. Any finders previous to the power trail is free to feel nostalgic about it but subsequent finders should not be expected to have that forced apon them. I don't think because some choose to write short logs does not diminish geocacing as a whole. If you feel tat means you need to start writing shorter logs because others are, then that is up to you. Kind of reminds me of the question about jumping off a cliff. Personally I would never disrespect anyone with a +1 in a log. I am quite sure when I do 50 caches or more and log them with 1/50, 2/50, ..., the log owners are not taking offense. If they are, they are free to let me know. I am sorry you feel that a response to your post could be considered an attack. Could be others just have a different opinion. Not always personal.
  22. "Standards for using 'epic' are so low, even 'awesome' is embarrassed." Yet you visited the caches and I assume you will claim your smiley. It is one thing to complain that a power trail reduces the greatness of a cache. It is another to claim that and then support the very caches that are the cause of the depreciation. Anyone that felt the trail diminished Bushwacker and still wanted to attend the event and enjoy the wonderful trail could have easily just ignored all the caches along the way.
