  1. I'm considering having a multipurpose stamp made that would work for both Letterboxing and Geocaching. I could then add additional handwritten information on the geocaching log.
  2. Sorry, for the mixup. I did click the link and "wasn't able to find that site". I went home and tried it and it worked fine. It seems that work must be blocking that particular URL. Now all you need to do is find a fearless (or crazy) geocacher to go up there. Russ (PastorDIC)
  3. You could make it geocaching related without too much trouble. For instance the Federation 2005 geocoin. The reverse has the geocacher names of the family or team. Here is the front of the coin.
  4. So what is the url of this osprey cam so we can watch too?
  5. I wouldn't SBA for this. I'd send a note to the cache owner. There are plenty of cache owners that will replace the cache when the cache is vandalized.
  6. I think I have only done a SBA once. I e-mailed him and got no response. I waited a couple months, then I looked at the user's profile and found he hadn't been active for a while, then in my SBA I mentioned how many DNF's there were including mine, that my e-mail had not been responded to, and how long he hadn't been active, and the reviewer archived the cache.
  7. my guess would be a pirate's chest
  8. My dad is a non-geocacher up in Anchorage, so every once in a while I daydream by looking at the caches in Anchorage, hoping some day to get to geocache up there. There are a lot of them up there. For history there is always the Webcam Cache - Pat the Dog.
  9. It depends on how they do it. If it is on the Watchlist, unfortunately No. If they Bookmark it AND CHOSE TO MAKE THE BOOKMARK PUBLICLY VISIBLE TO OTHERS, then you can see it on your cache page.
  10. Do people take into account if it's a micro when they trade? For instance, do you consider someone wanting a "regular" coin when they are sending you a micro fair?
  11. I won't give any details away, but the most ingenious I've found would be the GeoGadget series of caches. http://www.moondog3.com/geogadgets.htm
  12. plus WATER bottles. gloves Doggie doo bag(s) Kleenex (for glasses, nose, brow) PDA clipboard large garbage bag (for when there is nowhere dry/clean/non-stickery to sit, or CITO) TBs
  13. I'd add 7) "Set a waypoint for the car". 8) Make sure the pen you leave with is yours! Container quality depends on the Tupperware. Up here in the Pacific NW "Lock n' Lock" are also called "get your cache wet the first day". They don't protect against water very well. It rains so much here we like rain jokes. ("Yesterday it was sunny for 2 1/2 hours. Today must be the first day of Fall." "Last year 5000 bicyclists died....they fell off their bicycles and drowned." I have about 6 micros and none of them are key holders. Most of them are waterproof Coleman match holders.
  14. For an example of a DVD exchange cache see "dvd exchange" by scubafill 1/8/2006 Use waypoint: GCRY69. "A cache for the movie watcher. This is an ammo can hidden in a little wooded area next to my house, thought it would be a good spot so i could readily trade dvd's.getting to the cache can be muddy and a bit wet in the winter time so where the right shoes for this one.Ohh and there is no need to go to the above coords the cacne is not there. i decided to put this cache here because next to geocaching, i like to watch movies in the evening. i thought that instead of buying new movies i'd just trade with my fellow cachers. i dont really have cable like most of you with the local comcast channel line up, this cache my not appel to you. i could see why, with all the news channels like HN,or MSNBC. i think my ONE faviorte channel might be the SCIFI channel. then of course you need something for the kids to watch and what better then the TOON channel. then there is my brother who is a little off and will just sit around and watch the GOLF channel all day. but my wife could care less about all the fancy local cable channels and is happy just watching FOX,or the WB. so we gave up the cable for dvd's that is reason for this cache. you will be looking for a ammo can nesteled away in a fallen tree. Not to hard of a find if your gps settels down. the coords are good at the cache location but spotty at best getting there. Please keep the trading fair only dvd's or tb's. i have put a first finders prize of two new travel bug dog tags for you to make your own tb's.If you get the ftf prize i ask that you start one of your new tb's at this cache. (not required just a request) You may trade as many dvd's as you like i just ask please keep it fair 1 for 1 and dont trade a good movie for one that you know no one will want thanks and happy caching. the orignal contents of the cache were: log book and pens ftf prize flash gordon series dvd bmx bandits dvd the matrix dvd the matrix reloaded dvd the matrix revolutions dvd geo coin (not to keep, but to move along) and a white jeep tb"
  15. Thanks. I'll try to be at home in time to buy a couple. It looks like a coin worthy of buying. Russ (PastorDIC) P.S. Nice Icon. I was going to use a similar one of I ever got around to doing a coin. My signature item is a yellow smiley man keychain.
  16. In my front yard cache I have instructions on which yards not to go in, and a picture of our house as the background.
  17. I can't seem to pull the TB up by that number (TB12ECT). All I Get is a message "ElementNotFound Exception: Couldn't find base element in array: T".
  18. It depends on the satellites. There have been times that standing at the cache site my my GPS had the same coordinates as the cache page, and still said I was 30 feet away. Experience can play a part learning where a geocache might be. You learn to think like a geocacher (where would I hide a geocache), and detective (what looks out of place). Then there is the perversity factor, often different for me than others. I can seem to find a micro under a rock in the middle of the field, but can't find an ammo can in the woods many times.
  19. To see what coins are out there you might want to go to the coin tracking sites. For instance, my signature includes the one for CoinTracking. I think there is at least one more, TheCachingPlace. Russ (PastorDIC) Here's the link to my Coin Trading list: http://cointracking.com/public/PastorDIC
  20. Although the falls aren't really that tall, here is one that is pretty. The pictures on the cache page don't do the falls area justice. WaSucally: Rock Creek Falls GCG165
  21. My 7 year old grand niece will be down from Anchorage in June. What are the must do kids caches in the Portland OR area. Oh, and no micros unless there is some other redeeming value. She is still at an age where the micros are dissapointments because there are no treasures in them. Uncle Russell tries to explain you need to take something and leave something, but that hasn't stuck yet, so he carries extra trade items for her also. Thanks.
  22. It would help when mentioning an upcoming hike if you entered at least one cache right away. Living 11 miles from the Oregon border, I had no clue where Mt Si was, and had to read a page and a half of forum messages just to find out! Thanks.

    Dnf

My logging the first DNF depends on the situation. Sometimes I feel like I am having a stupid cacher day. Sometimes it gets dark too soon and the terrain is to rough for a night find even with a flashlight. Sometimes my wife has a full bladder before I find the cache. Sometimes it is too wet or too cold. Sometimes I don't have enough water. Sometimes too many muggles. I figure for these things a DNF will not help. If I'm just having a stupid day I may sometimes just post an informational note. I will post a DNF if it is difficult, if it is a puzzle I might have gotten wrong, if I can't find it and I think I should have, if I think the cache may have been missing, if I've scoured the entire area thoroughly, if reception is poor under the trees. I've never thought of logging multiple DNFs. Maybe I should.
  24. If you use your method, you may run into a major problem, and end up taking 3 trips to the cache location. If you know the general area you are going to be scouting for a cache location ahead of time you should look at the geocaching map of the area to make sure there is no other cache within 0.1 mile of the area you are thinking of. Otherwise you may have entered a cache in vain on Geocaching.com. I failed to look at the map once, and found another cache while trying to place mine. I mentioned my error in the cache log of the cache I found. (quoted below). The Owl Call GCN9KF I have found this cache before on Mar 31 05, so I am writing this note. I don't believe this is the same park! It looks so different than over a year ago. I came today to place a cache that I had been procrastinating on for a few months. As I got close to the park I noticed For Leroy cache was here. "Oh, no", I thought. Bead Happy and I did that cache, then I noticed the park was much bigger than it looked. Good, I could place the cache somewhere else in the park. I went to place my cache with my GPS, but left the cache container at the car! I got the cache container and went to the location a different way. Oh, No. Eighteen feet from where I was going to place my cache it looked like a cache hide. It *was* a cache hide. What? The cache container looked familiar. Last time I came in from the west instead of the east, and the plants looked very small. Coming a year later and from the east this park does not even look anything like it did before. I can't believe it. I guess I will have to check found caches too the next time I want to place a cache. Since the park was so different - it looks like the cache was moved to an entirely different park now - I just made a note at the cache that I think I had found this cache before, and took the Shnufflopotamus TB (small silver armadillo) in case I hadn't found the cache before. I went to the cache page via the TB page and discovered I HAD found the cache before. Russ (PastorDIC)
