  1. My comments on condoms where not intended to challenge the concensus. I have no intention of creating such a cache, just a vaque attempt at being funny. Hence my :) / :bad: . Sorry for any confusion or misdirection from our rather on topic, sterilized, kid tested, mother approved discussion. :P

  2. Well of course it is in a marsh. A rather lovely area I might add. Also happens to be a FAMILY ORIENTED cache. We cache alot with our 4 year old and wanted to place the type of cache we like to take him on. So far it has been well received.

Would the 'condom cache' be such a bad thing? It's 'safe', water proof and responsible :P . hmmm I'm gonna go see if anyone else has done this one yet.

  3. We have a cache named 'CatTail Cache'. Looks like I broke several rules when naming this. Using the word cache, oops. Plus using the words cat tail, hmmm could be interpreted poorly I assume. Whatever.

People will find a reason to be offended if they choose to offended. If the person naming the cache does so with the intention to offend then it can and should be considered offensive. George Carlin talks about this. It isn't the word itself, but the meaning the person saying it intends it to have. I happen to agree.

Keystone- something about not allowing condoms in caches based on 'family activity' strikes me as funny. By not allowing condoms are we encouraging families? :P

  4. I happen to have done some work with Fire Departments and Police Forces in Ohio. Cleveland PD is currently using a GREAT system that uses GPS, along with a few other really amazing concepts.

I would like to see every fireman/swat team member set up with some tracking device so that commanders can watch the action take place and know where their people are. The US Military already does this, but not with GPS.

  5. Geocaching.com as a web site and service is functional as a free site. All input is encouraged as long as it is constructive.

I think this is where I begin to have a problem. Can you define 'constructive'?

Based on what I have read in your posts your definition is something you personally don't like or don't want to see in 'your' forums.

This is what I percieve as heavy handed and why I feel like a customer being treated like an unwanted guest. Pretty much, we can discuss whatever I like, until you disagree then I'll be kicked out and have my post deleted.

Please prove me wrong, I will gladly appologize publicly.

  6. Sorry Doc, but I completely disagree. I agree that certain people may have gone overboard. I suggested that those with issues take them behind the scenes. I was annoyed with the whole thing, pretty much took the side of geocaching (the sport) and was treated rather rudely by TPTB.

I know my money helps pay for these forums. When they where down the updates said "Your fees at work...". There has been a procedure change that we where not informed of.

If someone could tell me if I am a GUEST or a CUSTOMER I'll know how to feel about how I am treated. I feel like a CUSTOMER being treated like an UNWELCOME GUEST.

This all needs to be resolved and go away.

  7. This whole Mod War thing needs to get hammered out. Some mods are saying 'thanks for your input, we are working on a better policy' but I also see what I perceive as a heavy handed 'it's my sandbox' attitude from others.

    Can someone tell me:

Am I a guest who has absolutely no input or recourse for my complaints.

    OR

Am I a customer who has a right to contribute my views and encourage change.

If TPTB can answer this question I can stop worrying about every post and make a choice.

  8. While we waited for our first GPSr to arrive Ani and I kicked around several ideas. One evening while drinking scotch...well, you can figure that out. I have to admit I am not 100% pleased with it. Stalker isn't exactly considered a GOOD thing these days and we aren't exactly drunks. I think people probably read our name and imagine a couple of lushes stumbling around the woods looking for mcToys. Oh well, it is what it is.

  9. I was going to suggest:

    1. Read the forums

    2. Create a sockpuppet account

    3. Start a topic complaining about nazi pirate noobs trading down and destroying the environment

    4. Cry that you are being treated unfairly and start a flame war with the mods

But since you have your GPSr you have WAY better things to do now. Happy Caching.

  10. ok..took a time out and I feel this topic has served its purpose and is no longer really contributing anything positive by being here for the noobs to read. Thank you all for your thoughts on this matter. I would very much like to see the issues that started this whole mess resolved and all involved in a big group hug. Lets move on and get back to the real purpose of this site.....why are we here again? Oh yea, that AWESOME thing called geocaching!

  11. Perhaps but after 1. Being patient and 2. Playing peace keeper and 3. Being patient

I feel...well...kind of crapped on by Groundspeak...this Hollier than thou Our way or the highway thing has me kinda upset.

Perhaps I should sleep on it? Gonna take a few days away from this. Hopefully things resolve themselves and my feathers become unruffled.

  12. Funny, I (HAD) an unbiased opinion about the MOD WARS. But after opening a topic and asking in a nuetral fashion that everyone "Cool Out" for the sake of the sport in general I had my Topic CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!! Now I really feel censored...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Although I am NEW to the sport I do PAY DUES and do Feel as though I atleast Contribute and have a stake in the future of the sport. Funny, I don't feel as though I am viewed this way by the mods.

This is VERY, VERY SAD TO ME.

  13. LOL....well I think it might be a censorship / challenge authority issue. From what I've seen it has gone something like this.

Would be entertaining if they wheren't closing threads I was TRYING to participate in. Not that I have anything REALLY Intelligent to say, but its fun to try.

  14. Whew! Seems more than a few of you are on the war path today, and this little battle is spilling over into EVERYONE'S FORUM SPACE. I don't know exactly what started all this, I don't really care to.

We don't look very mature today, I hate to think of all these relatives showing off Geocaching to their loved ones today and seeing the way SOME of us are behaving. It makes the sport look bad on a day we are pretty likely to see a lot of new (potential) cachers in the forums.

Can everyone take a breath, step back and think of a better way to approach these issues? Have some key-lime pie (before you fat uncle eats it all), boo the Cowboys (or cheer) and hug your sister (I know she is an overbearing nit wit and the sound of her voice is like Lee press on nails on a chalk board but she loves you).

It is Thanksgiving, lets try not to scratch each others eyes out in the forums.

  15. We have begun circling the city as much as possible. Thanks to the wireless laptop we are able to check for new caches an average of 6328 times per day. As soon as a new cache appears we head to it and log the ftf. Twice we have physically injured people we thought where cachers, turned out they where not (sorry grandma) but you can never be to safe. The ends justifies the means. All you non-FTF'rs need to quit whinning, losers.

I hope I don't have to mention that the above post is intended to be funny. No animals or grandmothers where hurt during the creation of this post.

  16. There has been a huge shift in both funds and focus since 9-11. Police and Fire Deptartments around the country are ALL under the gun (no pun intended) to prepare and train for mass casualty events. Many large cities are well on the way to having a system in place. One of the major obstacles is communication between units, departments and a command center. Every viable solution I have seen involves the use of GPS devices tracking Police cruisers, Fire Engines, Ambulances and so forth. It would make no sense to spend BILLIONS on homeland security and then cripple it by taking away one of the intricate pieces of the puzzle. There is absolutely NO chance of GPS being shut down, even to scramble it again would be a HUGE undertaking.

    Rest easy and cache happy.

  17. The admins are human, they have attitudes, opinions and feelings just like everyone else. It is an exercise in self discipline to uniformly inforce rules, to stand up in front of your peers, open yourself to criticism and make judgement calls.

My 4 year old son asks alot of questions. Road signs in particular lately. Why does that sign say 55? Why do we need a Speed Limit? Why do we have to stop at the stop sign? Why do we have to wear seat belts?..........I find myself saying because 'those are the rules'. To which he responds "Why do we need rules?" of course. And without much thought I say "We have to have rules, rules keep people from getting hurt." A discussion about why we don't hit, don't call names, don't play with flame throwers and electrical outlets follows.

I know I can make my own choices. I don't need a policeman to tell me to wear a seat belt, but I'm glad he is there.

"Deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. You rise and sleep under the blanket of freedom that I provide and then question the manner in which I provide it. I would prefer you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a d*** what you think you are entitled too."

    Passionate, but incomplete. ^^^^^^^

We need those authority/protective people there AND the right to challenge them. Eutopia is boring. Conflict creates change and forces progress.

I both enjoy and seek out friendly conflict. Nothing like an opinionated fool with some half baked crack pot idea to get me worked up, and then teach me something important.
