  1. I am addicted to walking in the woods with my dog. If I don't get out every day I'm not at work the day is a loss to me. If there is a cache on our walk, even better! I'm hopelessly addicted and have been for years. Things around the house and friendships have suffered. Is this a bad thing? Anyone else the same way? Should I try to reform or just give up?

  3. In the last year, I have had to log DNF's on two separate caches at the top of Adirondack peaks. On both occasions I was by myself, exhausted from a tough hike up, and not quite comfortable with where my GPS was taking me. Both times I thought, " If I wasn't by myself I would definitely go after this cache!" It's very frustrating to come home knowing I will probably never be on that summit again, and not have found the cache. At the time I'm at the summit, I always feel like I should not continue if I am not comfortable, but when I get home, I regret not pushing myself harder. I feel like maybe I'm wimping out. Most of my friends and family do not think I should be hiking Adirondack peaks alone, but I enjoy the solitude and being able to hike at my own pace. How far do other solo cachers push themselves to find caches? When is it time to say, "this may not be safe, I need to turn back"?
  4. I get a Subaru magazine every few months. I was really surprised to open my mailbox and see Geocaching on the front cover of the newest issue! The article was fairly lengthy, lots of pictures and covered just about everything about Geocaching.
  5. Just had Sirius installed in my car yesterday. I'm loving it so far! I've heard a lot of positive and negative from so many people. Anyone here have it? Like it or hate it?
  6. Please adopt from a shelter or rescue group. Check out petfinders.com for your area, it will give you some idea how many great dogs there are out there waiting for homes.
  7. So I had to put my best friend to sleep on Oct. 13th. It's been an extremely difficult month for me. Last week I went to the shelter and adopted a shepard mix named Cocoa. I took her on her first Geocache search today. She was really good and it was nice to have company again. My broken heart is not healed, but I think I have taken a large step in the right direction at least...
  8. Anyone know what Waymarking.com is all about? I'm not a premium member, and I'm curious.
  9. Crunchie was a rescue dog, I will never have a dog that isn't. You are right, there are so many that need homes. I never thought I would have a small dog, but he came along, he needed some love and TLC. He wormed his way into my heart like small dogs have a way of doing! He has had a wonderful life here with me. He's climbed many a mountain, in fact, the most frequent question I have gotten at the summits is, "Did that little dog climb all the way up here?" I have some great pictures of us together on the summits. He has been as good a hiker as any big dog. We aren't going to give up without a fight, but I won't let him suffer either. It will be awhile before I will be able to let another dog into my heart, but I know I will, I can't imagine life without one! Thank you all for your kind words and support. It's a help to know there are so many out there that understand my pain.
  10. My little geocaching buddy has cancer. No more walks in the woods, no more finding caches together. He's only six years old, and this is so unfair. I live alone, he's my only companion. My other dog died just a year ago. I can't deal with this. The thought of caching without him is unbearable.
  11. Is it wrong to go back to a cache you have already been to, if there is a TB there now that you can help on it's way?
  12. It's the monthly magazine that comes with being a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. It's filled with great ideas for vacations and outdoor fun. I love it!
  13. Surprised to see an article about caching in the May issue of AMC Outdoors Magazine. A basic introduction to GPS devices and geocaching.
  14. There are two caches in my immediate area on the AT. One was placed by me! I had no idea this was a problem. AT is in the name of mine, and I had no problem getting it approved.
  15. I started Caching last summer, and found most of the caches near my home. I was anxiously awaiting the return of good weather, planning on venturing further away for caching this summer. With the rising gas prices, it's looking like that isn't going to happen. Is the high price of gas effecting anyone elses Geocacaching plans?
  16. One person found my cache one week after I hid it. It's been months since then without another attempt. I guess that will be it till Spring..
  17. I'm in healthcare, so I have to work. That's okay though, we will have a huge feast at work and try to make the best of it. It also means I am off on Christmas this year! If the weather remains good, there will be some caching going on the day before Thanksgiving. Almost 60 here in Ma. today, bagged two caches. Weather forecast is the same for tomorrow.
  18. I figured when I bought it that it probably would not be sturdy or tight enough. I was hoping the coffee would at least be good. I still haven't tried it, it's not quite my coffee drinking time of year yet. It has to be really cold before I begin having coffee in the morning.
  19. I just changed coffee brands, simply to get the new Folgers container for a future cache. I guess I know I'm really hooked when I do that. Anyway, I haven't looked at it to closely yet, so I don't know whether it will be sturdy and tight enough yet. I'll know better after I open it and use up some of the coffee.
  20. I'm still new to geocaching, but today I found another great spot near me that I had never known about. Even though I found the cache, I will return to this spot again and again I'm sure. This to me is one of the best things about geocaching!
  21. I think when your cache is approved and posted for everyone to see those notes will no longer be there.
  22. I hiked up today and took out the coffee beads. I put the entire cache in a bag. The log book and pencil are already in a zip lock bag. Hope the whole thing weathers our tough winter okay.
  23. You had to have missed something on the form somewhere. Check it over carefully.
  24. Thanks for the advice, I thought about the flavor beads a lot, finally decided they have no scent at all and would be okay. Now I'm having doubts, maybe I will go up today and take them out. Also thought maybe I should wrap the cache in a bag for the winter. Thanks for the support, have fun caching!
