  1. I buy interesting items at yard sales to drop into caches. Some examples: Pez Dispensers, little figurines, interesting costume jewelry, vintage advertising items, anything small enough to fit in my caching fanny pack that looks interesting. I've purchased entire ziplock bags full of little doodads for a buck or two that I use as swag. I love to drop off unusual things. deb3day
  2. OK, am I just being blind, or is the recalculate missing? I can't seem to find it and I KNOW I've seen it before. What screen is it on? I have a personal coin that travels with me that has not updated mileage since June 7 and I've dipped it in MANY caches. I'd love the have all the miles added it by I don't see the recalculate link! NEVERMIND. I found it!!!!! I had a DUH moment. My miles are all fixed now! deb3day
  3. Obviously TB owners don't know that they can mark it missing either. I just visited a cache that has a TB that hasn't been seen in a year. I emailed the TB owner letting them know it's not there. Previous finders evidently also emailed them. The TB owner informed me that the "cacher owner has to mark it missing". Not so! I had a TB that was put into a cache that was then muggled. It's pretty obvious I'll never see that TB again. Cache owner didn't mark my TB (or the other 2 in the cache when it went missing) as missing. So I gave it a month and then I marked it missing. I guess lots of folks don't know how the "missing" thing works.
  4. I agree with the person that suggested babelfish.com. I used that frequently. It's not always 100% accurate, but you'll get the gist of what they're saying.
  5. Unfortunately I don't keep tracking number of bugs picked up and dropped. While I don't do it, I understand deleting logs if you drop a TB and forgot to do it on your original log to the cache. But why would you delete the logs on the TB page? I didn't even know you could do that.
  6. I was checking on a TB that I'd left in a local cache. The last log on the TB's site is my log leaving it in the cache. It doesn't show in that cache anymore, so I searched. A visiter after me logged that he'd taken a TB. Since I know the one I'd left was the only one there, it had to be that one. But he posted no log to the TB, so how did it get out of the cache? Then I looked again at the TB and saw that it showed a cache name where it supposed to be now. Since it's not close, I can't go check. How could it have gotten to that other cache without any logs on the TB's page?
  7. Thank you. This site had the one I was looking for! deb3day
  8. I've seen some nice log sheets in bison tubes with the Geocaching.com logo on them. They are much nicer than what I see on the website. Does anyone know where I can get these? Does anyone have a nice log sheet that they could send me to print off and put in my cache? I have one that is similar to a bison tube...a keychain pill holder. Thanks, deb3day
  9. If the logs in your area often say, "I was sure that (insert your name here) would have been here first", then you are officially an FTF hound. (raising my hand and looking guilty) deb3day
  10. I had two caches found on Sunday and I still haven't gotten my email notifications.
  11. I believe there is a problem with the email notification system today because two of my caches were visited today and I didn't get any emails.
  12. BrierPatch is a local cacher who has been designing coins. Last time I was at an event with him, he was telling me about it. If you have questions about those coins, you might contact him. He would probably love telling you about them.
  13. I found over 150 caches with just my TomTom One before I finally purchased a used handheld unit. The longer you do it with the TomTom, the better you'll get with it. But the drawbacks are that you have to be quick. No long walks, because the battery won't last that long. You'll have to stick to caches close to where you can park. My TomTom battery wouldn't last much more than 45 to 60 minutes. Do as pumpkin said, changing your readout to show your actually coords. I would memorize the last 3 digits of both the W and the N coords and repeat them over and over as I watched them change. It takes practice to know which way to move, but if you have some sense of what is west and what is north, just remember that if you go west or north, the numbers will increase. If you need the number to decrease, go south or east. You can get a small inexpensive compass (got mine for less than $15) that will help you know which direction to move so that the numbers get closer to where you want to be. If you want to go geocaching and the TomTom is all you have to use, you can do it. Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done. I found my first 100 caches in 3 months and all I had was the TomTom. Have fun!!!

Poke around here in the forums and you'll find description of the work around that you can use to log a premium cache even if you are not a premium member. I've seen it on another questions recently. Look around, you'll find it.
  15. TYVM I knew I could get a quick answer here!!!!!
  16. I know you can keep your bookmarks private and I know you can make them public. But if you choose the option to "Share", how does that work? I want to share a bookmark with two friends that are going to go with me on a caching trip. I've picked the share option. Now what?
  17. I've had this same problem. It has nothing to do with the size so I don't understand the ideas to shrink. It's the headers at the top like the name of the cache and the coords. But farther down the page the description and other info prints. The preview shows the same way. Often it happens when you decrypt first. But other times it does this even if I don't decrypt. I've never had this problem with my computer at work, but I do get it with my laptop at home. Other than the decrypt thing I haven't found any other similarities. I can print several just fine then I'll have problems with one or two, then the next ones might be fine again. I don't think I've printed any at home since the change to eliminate the PDF. Unfortunately the PDF was my only option to print if the cache was giving me this problem when printing on my laptop. Hopefully it's fixed.
  18. I am coming into Denver in August to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I'm thinking about coming in a day early to do some caching. If you are a 3-day participant and would like to show a visiting Crew member some local caching, I'd love to hear from you. I used to live in Littleton so I'd be especially interested in caching in that area. deb3day from Pennsylvania
  19. Thanks for the tips, however.... I always do them straight from the cache page because I take a look at the cache before deciding if I want to use it. I went back to the main bookmark page several times to refresh the new bookmark and it seems it's a timing issue...that it is taking the website 15 or 20 minutes to let me see the newly listed cache. It seems to only affect the ones that are on the second page. If I add one that sequentially shows up on the first page, it shows up right away. Maybe it's a "too many people on the website on a Saturday" issue, because I'm having intermittant troubles getting to page two. I have 72 caches on this bookmark and I want to rearrange them, but with all this intermittant trouble, I really think I'm going to take the suggestions from those who have given me GSAK help and go do my list on GSAK. Thanks to all of you giving me suggestions. I'll continue to look back here for more. I've been caching since May 2008 and still learning the ropes. I just started using GSAK a few months ago so I have a lot to learn there. GSAK does a lot more than I know how to use at this point.
  20. In working on this bookmark further, it would seem that the entries near the bottom take a while to show up. But I added one near the beginning and it showed up immediately. This might explain why it wouldn't let me to page two the other night. Even tho the bookmark knew the total was 52, it still hadn't added them in, so when I tried to get to page two, it really HAD nothing on page two yet. I now have 60 on the bookmark, but only 55 will show. I added one that come up in position 2 and I can see that but ones that are in 56 thru 60 I still cannot see. I'm guessing that 15 minutes from now, they'll appear. Isn't technology wonderful................
  21. I started working on a bookmark list for an all day run I want to do with some friends. Everything was going fine until I got over 50 caches on the bookmark. First it wouldn't let me get to the second page (I was using 50/page function). It was late that night, so I quit. Next day I looked and it would let me to the second page (I had 52 in the list at that time). Now I'm trying to continue and it doesn't seem to be adding them. But when I tried to add one that seemed to be missing, it said it was there. But when I look, it's not! So is there a limit to number of caches in a bookmark, or is there some functionality problem if you go that high? I saw in another post where people just open a separate GSAK database to store a set of caches instead of using a bookmark. But the advantage of using the bookmark is that I can rename the cache with a number in front to designate what order I want to do the finds. Is there a way to do that in GSAK? At this point, my only option seems to be opening a Bookmark#2 to continue after 50 if 50 is giving me problems. OK, so after typing up this entire question, I go back and the &%@$& bookmark is OK and has everything I put into it!!!!! Is it just me???? Is the website messing with me? My question about GSAK still stands...is there a way to put them in order in GSAK so you know what order you want to find them?
  22. I would think that as long as you state that all rules of the corn maze must be adhered to, which includes that you must stay in the paths, then people should do that. I'm guess you must also be a paid guest to the corn maze to enter. Will that go against Geocaching.com rules? We have a very popular corn maze nearby and I'd love to have a caching option there. I try to visit there every year.
