  1. I know of one that can be seen. GC10XW7 You can see the ammo can, and the green sticker right by the front walkway.
  2. I was planning on trying to grab a virtual cache of yours along rt. 7 near the VT/NY border but after three days of driving we were eager just to get home. It sounds like we were going in the opposite direction of the "Eh Team" when we found that cache in NH. Given that they had logged a cache in VT earlier we likely were at the NH cache just after they found it. Too bad we didn't run into them there. I always enjoy meeting other cachers while on the "trail". That is too bad - but the nature of the beast I suppose... Some amazing country down there, and I know I'll be back to get more of what we left behind!
  3. As this has obviously been bashed - I'll not continue to question it... just brought forward as it seemed to make sense. Just to give you an idea of my thinking - I've noted your comments, and provided explanation below. Agreed - and wouldn't expect Custom PQ's to be dropped... Agreed - that's because of your 500 cache limit. Myfinds PQ does that better. But if you had a 'region' that included everything - you could filter the GPX with gsak (or babel or whatever) before shipping to your gps. So - non-issue. ? I guess I'm nobody. As are the others who suggested it. I don't want or need 40 logs for every cache. A weekly list would be up to date enough for 90% of cachers I'd guess... Not really - but I don't get that with regular PQ's - so again... non-issue. See #1 I see a pattern here... This is why I use comments in gsak. Why would I want to update the caches on my GPS with logs from my finds? If I want to see my logs, I go to my profile, and select "found" logs. Um... yeah, and yeah. The problem isn't multiple DB's - the problem is populating an area I'll be travelling to. My own city requires 4 pq's to update - of the 5 I'm allowed a day. My recent trip - which took me 3000 miles from home, with 12 states, and over 60 cities required over 45 pqs to cover, and I have no logs there - which again is a non-issue. What I was suggesting was the addition of a set of city / state / region 'canned' PQ's with all caches - archived and not, found and not for a region (getting away from 'custom' and 500 max results). The 'custom' PQ's and MyFinds can filter in the other bits. I think quite the opposite would occur. If 5 people ran 5 queries each, and made the resulting 25x500 results available as a download outside Groundspeak - it would save Groundspeak servers the PQ's of everyone who downloaded it, rather than generating their own PQ's. That said - it's a violation of terms of service (which I wouldn't suggest) to do so. Agreed - assuming of course that you can get the information you need in 5 queries on a given day. In our case - we were 6 days out of current, unable to PQ enough updates, and bumped into archived caches and new caches since our last 45 PQ update. Me too! I think the largest stumbling block at this point is that the downloads would give the opportunity to gather "ALL" the caches and build a database to "topple" Groundspeak. This of course has all kinds of implications, but could happen already. Truth of the matter is - yes. Custom PQ's work for 80-90% of cachers on a daily basis. But for those of us who travel, it makes it very difficult to get a list of caches for the regions we'll be visiting. It's tough to know your routes and distances ahead of time. A simpe "Get Mexico Caches (Last updated (3) days ago)" link would make it a breeze, and justify not only the cost of Premium membership - but perhaps even an 'enhanced' Premium membership cost... In any case - since this appears to be a dead issue (or at least back burnered) I'm sure GS now has it in a list of things to evaluate again at some point - so I'm happy to drop it here. If we (as users, and paying members) are asked to offer suggestions - I have. That's a priviledge of membership no? If we are to be scared off of making suggestions due to fear of banning by making rational and well thought out suggestions - then I don't believe TPTB have the best interests of their business and customers at heart. I don't believe that to be the case - so this was my suggestion. If users support it - great, if not, so be it. One thing is for certain though... software features like this are not unreasonably expensive, and if even a percentage of users find them valuable - then they are worth consideration. Concensus in a place like this is impossible. Better to support an idea you believe has merit, than fight a suggestion whose intent and merit you may not see.
  4. Yeah - the cache outside Edison was a morning cache - on the way to our next stop... We did a lot of those. Our biggest challenge was not doing LPC's ALL the time. When you're on a road trip where miles and caches don't always align, we did quick micros to keep route geometry going, and the more interesting caches that we could find in under 10 minutes. This did exclude a LOT of caches we'd have loved to do (like Sleepy Hollow) but that's the nature of the beast. Were I to do it over, I'd spend 5 days in 3 states (now that we have finds in all 12 of course ).
  5. Wow. What a trip! Indeed - we did meet a few cachers along the way, but I'm sure we crossed more paths than we knew about! Heres our trip summary... though I'm loathe to Copy / Paste into log entries - this was a unique opportunity, so I don't feel as bad... "The 2008 Eh-Team Tour (visit link) ran from August 27th, 2008 to August 31st 2008. Covering 2,333km (1440 miles) three Edmonton Alberta Geocachers toured through 12 northeastern US states including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. We visited over 135 caches, completed 10 earthcaches in 8 states, accomplished milestones and visited the GPS Maze exhibit before the end of it's Connecticut run. The "Eh Team" comprised of KappAlpha, Celestial_Badger, and Scratch_ truly enjoyed the caches we visited and would like to thank the vibrant caching communities in these areas for their efforts." The final count was actually 139 caches, but due to timing etc. I managed 140 in the week, making it my best day, weekend, and week caching in 6 years. The company was great, the caches always entertaining, and the hunts varied. From 'roll-down-the-window' LPC's to bushwacking - we got a little of everything. We started the trip heading south from boston, and did the 'loop' to maine and back. The blog pages on our site http://www.theehteamtour.com will give you a synopsis through the blogs, and we even got to wave to the President while doing 4 virtuals in DC. All in all a success by all accounts... We'll be back - probably a south/southwest trip next - Palm springs / Vegas / Arizona / New Mexico perhaps? Cheers! We'd like to give shout outs to Darryl at Plaid http://thinkplaid.com for the website support, well wishes, and tasty donuts, http://geocachingonline.com for the Shout-out, and Darryl of http://cacheamaniacs.com/ for his consistent following of our efforts. Any questions?
  6. We're packed - and ready to roll. My suitcase will no doubt make the security people look twice - what with the batteries and headlamps, gps, cameras etc... Think I'll be explaining this game a few times tomorrow. 4 hours to the airport - and I'm slammed. Most updates now will be via Twitter - join us if you can - www.twitter.com We are "ehteamtour" on twitter, follows are welcomed (@ehteamtour) and visits to the site encouraged (http://www.theehteamtour.com) Cheers everyone! CACHE ON! And to quote Dino... who's probably quoting someone else... "im in ur w00dz loggin ur kashez" w00t!
  7. Dino - you just made me laugh out loud - I was almost rolling on the floor laughing my a** off - but then I saw this in your signature: "im in ur w00dz loggin ur kashez" At which point I actually DID LOL, and ROTFL. Thanks - I needed that laugh. I'm going to bed - so that I can be up in 4 hours to head to the airport! w000t!
  8. Thanks for the heads up - if we're near we'll have to take a look - that looks pretty amazing!
  9. Only 13 hours until we take off - ooooh!!!! 150+ caches come to papa! Video will be published throughout the trip - hope you get the chance to join us!
  10. Kilometre - 1000 Metres (close to a yard - or 'Yahd') . Yeah... I switched my "e" and my "r" there. This is a common problem for canadians... somthing to do with the order of the Alphabet and "Zed". And no - there aren't links to Go-Daddy.com on the site - and if there are - please - show me so I can fix the borked link! See if we come by coffee while we're in Maryland now! Psycho urbans? Would LOVE to do them - but something tells me the schedule won't permit it..... THIS TIME.... PS: EUROPE!?! Ok. I could understand that if we weren't on the same continent... Remember Canada? It's just North of Mexico after you cross that big BUSH in the middle...
  11. Yep - we're crazy. We're flying from Edmonton Canada to Boston on August 27th, and will tour 12 states and over 100 caches (including 10 earthcaches, and the GPS Maze Exhibit) before returning to Edmonton on the 1st of September. Watch for a few (10+) "Serial Kacher" coins as next to find swag in the Northeast! If you want to follow along - we'll be posting and visiting GC.COM whenever we can, posting to the 'Hunt and Unusual', but are also on Twitter, Vimeo, and Flickr. If you want to follow along or give us good vibes - visit http://www.theehteamtour.com (No - we're not hosting any advertising, downloads, or anything - just want to share our trip with other like minded cachers!) Please - send us your very best "HAPPY CACHE MOJO" folks - 5000 kilometers is a long way to go for DNF's.... Cheers! Scratch_, CelestialBadger and KappaAlpha
  12. I'd call myself a lurker. 16 posts in 7 years has to count as a lurker. Sorry - will try to fix that...
  13. NOTE: I did try to find similar requests before posting - but if I overlooked something and this has been beaten to the ground already - please accept my apologies... Over and over I've worked to build groups of queries to provide for me all caches in my region. Invariably - these PQ's take time to build, and time to run from the system. Would it be possible for GC.com to build a 'regional' PQ - like the Myfinds query that is run weekly by Groundspeak but is cached for ALL users? In my mind - the function would look like: System generates Regional Query (once every 7 days at the system 'low-time') - Includes ALL caches in region (1-5000+) Caches - Includes FULL cache listings including caches marked as 'archived' or 'disabled' - Download only - no email - Maximum caches returned based on region - not the 500 limit. - Cache query would only be run once a week by the system, and the data be stored. The query could then be imported to GSAK (or whatever parser you choose) and you'd have access to all caches in a region. (this could certainly be limited to premium users or what have you...) A region may be based on Country / State / Province based on number of caches available. Cache dense regions may need to be broken down (ie: Southern California / Northern California) or by Counties?) My thinking is that while this may require a significant processing load - doing it once per week would be less stressful on the system than every user generating 5, 10, 20, 40 queries weekly (or daily) to generate the same output. Old caches don't change - so people can use the 'Regional' query for 'ALL of the caches' and do only a few queries weekly for 'updates' and 'new publishes' thereby reducing the overall volume of PQ's. These 'regional' PQ's need not even be mailed - but cached and made available as downloads only - further reducing the taxes on the system. As an example - for an upcoming trip to the NE USA, we've had to devise and run 40 PQ's over a week to generate the list of caches for a trip. By downloading just 12 statewide queries once we'd have had the same data - and not added 40 queries to the system. We could simply do an 'update' of the area and had over 25 fewer PQ's that weren't dynamic... just the dozen states, that ran once and were cached for everyone. I realize this seems as much feature as any other request - but I think there are some real gains for the system here too. Granted - these files may become large - 5-10mb - or bigger, but as they say - bandwidth is often cheaper than processing time. Anyone have any thoughts?
  14. It's a GO! 3 Cachers from Edmonton Alberta Canada, Also known as the "Eh" Team are embarking on an adventure to the NE United states. 12 States, 4 days, 3 cachers, 1 rental car! Cheer us on and keep up with the Tour at: http://www.theehteamtour.com
  15. Hey! It's february! (Just kidding!) To clarify - as some have asked.... Yes to custom icon (see above) and as for quantity in the universe - only 500 were minted in two finishes - a VERY limited gold finish and the remainder of the 500 in black nickel... While the jury is out about ever minting more (unlikely) it will never be a large volume coin.
  16. Slytherin - Can you let me know how to get my Luxembourg coin activation code from GCCoin recognized by Geocaching.com? I received one in a trade, and requested an activation code online at the site. The site gave me the activation code - but it is refused by GC.com.... Any suggestions? Please PM me or email gscratch@gmail.com
  17. For those unaware - SerialKacher.com now sells singles and mails via untracked canada post... Cheers.
  18. Winnipeg? Of all the places in Canada - Winnipeg is one of the smaller centres. Calgary would be a much better host city. Between the mountains, amenities and the blue ribbon bow river for anglers - it's got it all.
  19. Just too bad that the US counterparts can bandy their benchmarks as part of their finds, but we have to use Waymarking or virtual caches to do it...
  20. I'm looking for someone willing to give away an old GPS. I have an extended family member who's son is going to Boston for Radiation treatment. I suggested Geocaching to them for an activity for the family to do during their stay, but since they are not able to work while he has cancer treatments, money is a little tight. If anyone has an extra that they aren't using to lend or give to them, it would be greatly appreciated. I live in Edmonton, they live in Vancouver, and they are heading to Boston in 2 weeks, so any of these locations would be ideal. FYI- The boy's name is Finn O'Sullivan, he and his twin brother Baird just turned 2, and their sister Sarah is 6. Please message me using Groundspeak user "Scratch_" or by e-mail below. Thanks, Team Scratch_ contact: silverpellet@hotmail.com
  21. All of this is well and good - anyone at GC working on the fix?
  22. I hope this will be a random, but equitable drawing of the reviewers mentioned here - rather than by number of occurrance... I would hate for Cache Tech, Cache Effect or any of the other reviewers I've had the pleasure of conversing with over the last 5 years be ineligible as a result of the number of cachers in a region, or lack of appearance here in this thread. Afaik - the sentiment should be bestowed on all of the volunteers (lovely walking stick aside...) and I hope that Groundspeak already has some mechanism for rewarding these volunteer/cachers for their contribution. /Scratch
