  1. I noticed that too! What an AWESOME game! I'm happy to have been a part of it for two years now. Thanks for the vision!
  2. Yea! Been waiting for this challenge as I'm the host of the Mineral Wells State Park cache. There is a LOT of traveling so you'll get to see a whole range of what Texas Parks have to offer! Good luck to those trying to complete the challenge in one day!!! *eek!*
  3. It IS a great way to cache.....I've cleared my immediate area long ago so I'll drive to an area and bring my bike along to save on gas and get some exercise.
  4. I once found a cache that was hidden in my area that was placed in a large rock pile to prevent erosion. Big ol' limestone rocks. This cache hide was a SMALL hole drilled in the bottome of a rock with a BIC pen tube cut into 1/4 of it's original size with a tiny log inside. I don't know how long I searched or what I was even searching for but I stayed at it for quite a while. I finally flipped the right rock over and made the spot. Of course, not only was this a hard find, but, people had moved the rock around a time or two so the coords were a bit off and this made it even more challenging. I was so proud of myself at the time but I'm VERY thankful those aren't frequently hidden caches around here.
  5. Oh yes.....SE Texas has a very active geocaching community. In fact, they won the Texas Challenge this year in San Angelo (Arrrrrgggghhhhh!). Just go to the regional forums and click on 'Texas' and you'll see a number of events being held in your area. You should be able to meet others there. Also, if you do some researching, you can find another website that is more 'Texas' specific. Oh, I dunno....maybe type in 'Texas' and 'Geocaching' into your search engine....*wink, wink*.
  6. Only thing I found interesting is how they hit 18,000 and stopped caching yet they still maintain their membership....
  7. I don't think the 100 finds mark is unreasonable.
  8. Wow....the link you provided shows a "Create A Commie" magnetic shavings game. Too funny.....
  9. Ummmm.....sounds to me like you need to have and hide your OWN TEMPORARY caches hidden within your yard or local park wherever you're having the party. Officially published geocaches have to be no LESS than 528' apart so this would not be the best way to introduce youngin's to the game. Just hide some of your own caches around the yard etc. and save the coords to your gps. Then, when they arrive, you can help load the coords onto their phones/gps's and let them find them. Good luck!
  10. I applaud those that are willing to place well stocked caches out there. I, too, try to place well stocked caches when I first put them out. I also plan on restocking them once a year after they have surely depleted over time. If you plan on stocking them or keeping them stocked, be prepared for disappointment. I found a cache this weekend, an LPS hide, where someone had left a plastic milk jug lid inside! REALLY? Totally made us laugh and wonder if they had taken anything from the cache....but really? WHY? Too lazy to throw it away? Baffles me. I just gave a geocaching 101 seminar at Mineral Wells State Park here in Texas. This was one of the things I spoke with them about. If we can educate the noobs, hopefully, over time, we can turn this thing around.
  11. Lotus would not mind.....he's supposed to be a really cool guy. Interesting how you've found a cache by accident so quickly in your "career". I think I've found three so far in my two years of caching! It's even MORE fun that way!
  12. Wow......thanks for the links! I spent nearly two hours reading some of those blogs! Great pics too!
  13. You seem to be very excited, Pino. I remember my first cache. I had a smile on my face like I knew this "big secret" and the rest of the World didn't have a clue. Welcome to the game and I hope that your enthusiasm continues to grow with each and every find you make!
  14. That's funny. I had a similar experience but, unfortunately, don't get to claim the find. I hiked up to the top of Texas at Guadalupe Mountains State Park (GC4EEF) way back in 2003 with my family. It was my second time to reach the summit but wanted my family to have that experience with me. This time I spent a little bit longer looking around and found an ammo can. I didn't even know what an ammo can was much else why it was there. Just noticed a spiral notebook with some interesting stories inside from other hikers. There were also trinkets in there so I left some stuff and took something (don't even remember what it was) and put my story in the book as well. Looking at the map, it appears to be a virtual yet there is an ammo can there too. You can still see it in pics that people have taken. Wished I could have claimed it but the virtual requires pics with a GPS... HAHAHAHA! Maybe another time....
  15. J.C. Penney's has em. Just bought a set for about $20. They're in the kitchen section. Thanks, Al! I'll have a looksee.
  16. I was going to ask the same thing, Sol Seaker. IF you put your geocaching NAME on the chess piece, well then, that's a signature item and I would be happy to trade for that!
  17. Wow! I AM impressed! I've yet to find any of these containers at the store though...???
  18. Most of my caching is with others. I'd say at least 80%. There are times when I want to go alone because of the difficult terrain or hiking distance.....I don't wanna drag someone along and they start complaining.
  19. something like that is what i am thinking...my biggest concern is the lid. does anyone make a 5gal bucket wit a screw on lid? screw on lid Interesting.....Hmmm.
  20. Yes....HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Very thoughtful gift, indeed! Funny how she brought you back "full circle"....hahahahaha!
  21. BTW, thanks for the heads up on this deal.....I just didn't have the resources to take advantage at the time....
  22. That would be fun to see what she wrote. Good for her on the remote find!
  23. If I'm thinking of the same "two guys" that you talked about, they're known around these parts for taking pictures of the "wrong" cache container. I was looking for a cache they had found and already had the vision of the container in mind but it was COMPLETELY different. Made the hide more "difficult" than necessary. I got back in the car and told my friend about it and she said, "yes, that's what they do." Oh well, I guess that's how they get their jollies. I agree with Robert, I believe the cache was mis-labled by the owner and nothing else. BTW....Dallas/Fort Worth IS flooded with micros....
