  1. The greatest hide I've ever found was at a community baseball park. The cache container was located just beneath the scoreboard. But where? I looked....and looked....and looked. I posted a DNF when another cacher asked if I wanted a hint. I reluctantly said yes and he told me to stand back and look at the fence more closely. Man, I had been ALL OVER that fence but I figured I'd go try again. Went back out there and noticed....yes....yes.....the posts are equidistant from one another by about 15' or so....yes...except for THAT one! Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the little pieces of bendable wire that hold the chain link fence to the post were "sloppy" looking as if they had been taken off a few times. Wait a minute! That post has a cut in it! Didn't know it at the time (because of my brute strength) I thought the whole pole was to come out of the ground. Nope....just unscrew it. He had shoved two pieces of smaller PLUMBING pipe inside the top and bottom piece of the post that were threaded. Inside was a film cannister. Another, what I thought was a slick redirect in a multi cache, was on a bridge guardrail. The guardrail has an expansion joint in it. You slide the expansion joint (kinda tough to do) to one side and there are stenciled numbers struck into the metal of the expansion joint with the next set of coords. Blew my mind because I had seen them before but didn't realize they were coords for the next stage.
  2. Wow! Great proposal! It was funny reading how your hands were shaking as you fumbled with the ring....it made me anxious all over again remembering mine! Thank you for sharing and I wish ya'll well!
  3. Pathtags....signature items....unactivated geocoins....geocoins....TB's....wooden nickels.....(edit) and an empty log sheet!
  4. Here http://www.king5.com/news/local/GeoWoodstock-97742999.html Go S.W.A.G members!!! Thanks for the link. I had heard that some friends of mine were interviewed by the news team. They are Darkstar and TxDiva (camo'd couple.....he has TB tattoo). They're from Arlington, Texas so it's cool to see someone I know that was there since I didn't get to attend...
  5. Patience....I always wanted to have a big caching day (87 total in one day) and I ended up regretting it. I was bored to tears after about the 50th one (it was a series....same containers....same hiding spots) and the logging......my GOD the logging!!!!! Swore I'd never do over 30 in one day again. I hope you have a better experience.
  6. Drats....was hoping for close to Texas too.....wasn't aware of geocaching back when GW IV happened. Did they say that they'll all be around the fourth of July now? I was hoping they'd NOT plan it around a holiday because it'll mess up my paid holiday (gotta work the day before and the day after). Oh well.....we'll see.
  7. I'm not sure this has been covered before but, after 10 years of Geocaching's existence, it may have. We've all seen the frustration with swag deterioration; I've experienced it myself. And we've seen a number of thread titles stating the fact that it happens. But I propose an alternative. Why not reward the CACHE OWNER for a well placed/thoughtful/tough/ammo can (insert whatever else floats your boat)? Sure, there are those RARE occassions when I want to trade something out but that happens less and less often. What I like to do is leave one of my pathtags in any: 1). Ammo can hide 2) memorable cache (location) 3). tough one to hike to. 4). Mystery cache (to encourage others to search) Maybe I'm trying to be too positive again but it can encourage better caches and give you the satisfaction of rewarding the CO for their cache. I will post a note in the log for the CO saying that I left them the pathtag and, if they choose not to go fetch it, hopefully it will encourage someone else to find that rarely visited cache.
  8. My friend used them as markers for his multi-cache. Sounds like the same things that he used. Check out GC26F9C for a pic.
  9. Did it come back every time you got a little sunshine on the afflicted area? That is what makes this such a big problem. No.
  10. I had a far worse reaction to poison oak as a kid.
  11. O....M....G!!! Montgomery is my hometown! I will have to send you an email to see if I "know" you. (Forgiveness from the others as Montgomery WAS a town of only 401 people for as long as I can remember). I have favorites for different reasons as well. Find my logs on GCW3Y9 GCRN9M GC18XH6 GC2195V Sorry, but I haven't figured out how to link on this site yet....
  12. Looks good, my friend! It would appear that you're going to hang this one from something. Will it be exposed to the elements? Wondering how it would hold up to those conditions. I did NOT try to "waterproof" mine.
  13. I'm here because my friend (Texaslibra) and I went on an all-night FTF hunt that took us from Fort Worth to Grapevine, over to Dallas, down through Lancaster, over to Burleson, then to White Settlement and back to Ft. Worth. Started at 11:00 p.m. and "finished" at 6:00 a.m. with the last cache (a multi) probably taking us too long to finish before she had to take her daughter to work. We finished with 8 out of 9 possible. I slept for two hours and then went to a pen defense course.....talked to my buddy across the street for an hour and a half.....went to church at 5:00 p.m. to practice music before having service at 6:30. Made it back to the house at 8:00 and starting supper. Now, I'm seeing what I missed here!!!
  14. Very rarely do I ever look back on a cache if I've gotten FTF. Almost ALL of them haven't been very "memorable" but I have found several caches that weren't found for over one, two, and the most, three years. THOSE are fun to hunt because the surroundings have become overgrown and such.
  15. We're still "Off Our Rockers" over here in Fort Worth too.....Hmmmm......interesting. If it was a corporate decision to ban geocaching, they didn't do a very good job of gettin' the memo out!
  16. I don't know how to post links on this site.....but GC2195V GCW3Y9 GCRN9M GC18XH6 Have been my fav's so far.
  17. Never mind the negative comments. Do what you want. I remember being given a link but never tried it myself. Good luck!
  18. We have a truly EVIL hide here in Fort Worth.....a REAL snake (young rattler) that had been preserved.....coiled up in the "sleeping" position with a nano glued underneath. Placed in a rocky area......thank GOD I went there in the winter and knew from the cache name and logs what to expect.......but still......*shivers*
  19. Anywhere in the world? It'd have to be Germany/ Czech Republic.....beer would weigh heavily into my caching experience. Anywhere in the U.S.? Washington/Oregon.
  20. Also, if interested, you get the email notifications for "FTF" hunts. But then there's that ol' standby of SUPPORTING a great website/game!
  21. Always good to see a new geocacher introduce themselves with such enthusiasm for the game! I know EXACTLY how you feel and was just talking about this yesterday with another caching friend of mine. While I'm not AS excited as when I first started two years ago, I know I'll be caching for the rest of my days as long as I'm able to. We just completed the Texas Parks Geochallenge which took us over 800 miles to complete over three days. CRAZY! Welcome to the game!
  22. As a builder of cryptexes, this one looks AWESOME! All parts you crafted yourself or did you buy them somewhere?
