  1. I can still get 30 cal ammo cans for $6.95 here in Fort Worth and Decon Kit containers for $3.95. I REALLY like the decon containers because out of the four that I've found so far, I stared right at them or walked right passed them without even a notice. They blend in real well with our foliage down here anyway. Big, plastic coffee cans work well here in our climate as do the empty med bottles.
  2. Yup, so a nice friendly outing with the kids is now turned into a PIA situation. Real friendly game you want to play. Oh well, there are a lot more "nice" people out there then there are a**es. Really? So far I'm one of "those people" and an "arse". All you have managed to do is revert to juvenile behavior (assuming that you're an adult) by name-calling and making personal attacks. Hmmm....you really CAN tell a tree by the fruit that it bears.
  3. If thats how you read what I said, so be it. It's true. The internet is filled with "that kind" of people.:laughing::laughing: Yes, I am an extremist. Because you said it was "arbitrary". That was the whole purpose of putting a lock on the cache so they would have to figure out the combo.
  4. One of my favorites so far was a puzzle cache called "Triangulation". It gave you the coords for a tree with three tags. The first tag had the number in feet that it was from the actual cache. The other two tags gave you coords to other trees. Those trees also had a tag with the number in feet they were from the cache. You then had to mark each on your GPS and triangulate where you thought the cache was. It was rated a 5 in terrain because it was in a nature park that was off the beaten path.....a literal wall of posion ivy to go through as well as stomp through.....thorns......swamps.....mosquitos. I keep a journal for all of my finds and after 3.5 hours of tackling this cache, I sat down in and wrote a five page note for myself. It took me thirty minutes to write. The cache container was chock FULL of swag and I left a8 items myself (coins, TB's, Caching pins, caching patches etc). That was around two months ago and no one has discovered it since. I have one that's going to be very difficult......and a bit scary....
  5. Worship Pastor at Sanctuary Church in Fort Worth, Texas. I had my friend, THE Pastor, and his family caching for a bit but they bought a defective GPS and haven't bought a new one. Now he's swamped with work. Maybe in the future?
  6. Yeah, really. They said they couldn't open the cache so whats the big deal? Personally, if I don't sign, I don't claim. Of course I haven't run into a missing log yet but if I ever do, I will log it as found and note a missing logbook. Don't know why some people have to make a fun hobby so complicated with arbitrary rules. Are you serious? Then why don't I just use Google Earth and zoom in to every cache and say I "found it"?
  7. I'm the Worship Pastor at Sanctuary Church in Fort Worth, Texas. I had my friend, the Pastor, caching with his family but they bought a bad GPS. He started working for himself and hasn't had the time to get back into it.
  8. Wow.....sensitive people around here. I agree with the OP. Hiding micros in the woods shows no imagination. I'd rather you save the micros for INGENIOUS placements in the cities where hundreds of people walk by them and never even know it. To me that's more exciting than finding a "geostack" of logs in the woods with an ammo can underneath.
  9. I'm an electrical contractor so I just pretend like I'm working.....especially if it's an LPS. LOL!
  10. I haven't found anything extraordinary or worthy of a thread but I have found two archived caches while looking for another cache. I've only been caching for a year now with 600+ finds but I think it's just as fun. The only way I knew they were archived is because of when I went to log them as finds, they didn't match the cache descriptions. Again, this could help those that don't understand the 528' guideline *sorry for bringing it up*
  11. The furthest I've driven was maybe 10 miles.....LOL! I hate to drive.....I'll ride shotgun with you all day though. My geocaching friend's grandmother is from Ecuador or another country down that direction. He says there are still 9 caches that have never been found and have been out for years. Who's going to go get 'em?
  12. I don't know what can be done. I just see it as a risk of placing one out there. That's why I decided on pathtags and TB's. No real loss and still have the fun of tracking an item.
  13. I don't know but I was disgusted to learn that it was already held in Dallas before I started caching!!! *mumble/groaning* I'm sure that it will be thousands of miles away from me for next year........BUT I WILL GO!!!!
  14. I visited an LPC recently that was a bit unique. My geocaching friend reached in to grab a bit of cloth when he unwrapped it to discover that it was a man's pair of underwear! We thought it was someone being rude but, come to find out after logging the find, the cache owner wrapped them that way to deter muggles. They didn't look new to me....sick! LOL!
  15. I log all DNF's because it alerts the cache owner that it MAY have been muggled. I mind the majority of caches that I hunt for but I do realize that some of them just stumped me. Also, as a cache owner, a DNF is like a "prize" meaning that you gave someone a challenge. I especially like a DNF from someone in my area with 1000+ finds. They're pro's at the hunt and sometimes will not even use a geep withing 100' of a cache because they already know where you hide it from what's available! Log your DNF's....it's the right thing to do.
  16. Interesting to get to see his name on here. I was able to meet Prntr1 at an event cache here in Texas along with a friend of his....Abogado. He must get to cache a lot because they were here on a cache run. They must have hit 200 or so over the weekend. So, seeing your post, I'm not surprised to see this accomplishment. WTG, Prntr1!!!
  17. Hi, Winstonsdad! Maybe see you tomorrow at No Frills? I'm a scoutmaster with Troop 144 in , North Richland Hills, Texas. I was never in scouting but I as able to "live it" because I grew up in the woods. I have been in scouting since my son was a tiger cub. He is currently a Star Scout. We just received an award from the Trailblazer District for having the most boys reach the rank of Eagle Scout in 2008. WOOT!
  18. Usually, the "higher dollar" amount swag has been gift cards. They've varied in amounts of $10 to as much as $100. So far, the coolest thing I have found in a cache has been a Pathtag. I love them because they're just as unique and creative as a geocoin but you get to keep them. You can google pathtag and find out more info if you're interested. I also leave sig items such as the bottle caps and shrinky dinks (use the ink jet one's they're sooooo much better!). I have found cash but nothing to write home about. Usually less than $5.
  19. I know I have changed the way I view the world to a degree. I do the ol' "there's a cache over there." bit all the time with family and new cachers. I also look at areas and say "I could hide a cache in there!". I just see it as another extension of my addiction.
  20. I guess GOF is saying that this topic has been covered before. I would recommend Google Earth as you can get even more detailed info by zooming in than what's available on geocaching.com. Also, look at some caches that ARE close to one another and you can get an idea of where you can hide another cache.
  21. I've only been caching for a year now and have learned of many people dropping off the face of the earth. I don't know what they're motivation was to begin with......I've bumped into two of these former cachers and one said it wasn't a challenge for him any longer and the other said they had a baby and the baby takes up too much of their time. Neither excuse came across as a valid reason but that was their reasoning behind their decision. I sometimes wonder how long will I geocache. I've come into a nest of micros hidden in the woods and that can be more frustrating than fun at times. I'm the kind of cacher that will look for one cache for 45 minutes to an hour before giving up. I hate to post a DNF. Searching for waterproof match containers isn't my greatest joy in geocaching. I figure that once I have to start driving 20+ miles just to find a WPMC then I'll be slowing waaaaay down.
